I regularly take new or visiting spearfishers out to get used to spearfishing or UK spearfishing - it's a great way to give back to the community, and to dive with different people. This time we were greeted with proper "Sussex viz": one meter at best.
It's hard to see how close we are to the ground (fish eye / wide view camera), so keep an eye out for the credit card - which gives a great idea of scale.
Probably around 4h of diving, with over 60 dives personally - to get two plaice. It's not a flashy catch, but it is very satisfying when hard work and persistence in poor conditions pays off.
The new spearfisher managed to find some plaice (although not get them) - acheivement enough for the conditions! Next time, especially if there is a little more viz, he will get them.
I should also remind anyone thinking of starting spearfishing in Sussex, short guns are much better (I recommend a 60).
