As a person living in Philly for over 20yrs and tired of it....I'd like to know what about Tampa makes it your favorite? As a person dependent on public transportation (which is why I love big cities), and who would live in Chicago if it were in the south...do you think I'd actually be happy in Tampa? I'm seriously looking into it..as I'm leaning toward a Florida move. I'm approaching my 60s and don't want to deal with cold anymore!!!
Robert Fernandez Ok Tampa ain’t like Philly or Chicago, but it still is a city with a lot to offer! Tourists do come here for a reason and a lot of people are moving here for a reason!
Moved here from CA in 2010 and I am SO happy I did- I will never live anywhere else. I LOVE Tampa and SO proud of this city. Thank you Mayor for all you have done for Tampa! #LoveFL That said, I 100% agree with Ricardo down below. Stop the TBX project!!! #stopTBX
+Rachel White We are looking to move to Tampa in the near future. How's traffic over there? is it as bad as OC or RC ? What about overall safety and schools? Thanks.
+Jhon Castro I will never move back to CA and I never plan on leaving Tampa! Now as for traffic, it is has some bad traffic in the denser city section of south and central Tampa, during rush hours- mainly because a lot of the roads are 2-3 lanes; but Tampa is working hard to widen a lot of the roads, esp the freeway they just completed a huge project. It is no where near OC and definitely not even close to Riverside. I have always felt safe here, I feel like even the "dangerous areas" are not like Santa Ana or Riverside, definitely not like LA. Ir's a city so there is always going to be some minor crime, but nothing major. South Tampa and West of Dale Mabry (Carrollwood, West Chase, Oldsmar), North Tampa (think New Tampa, Tampa Palms and Wesley Chapel) or the Brandon area are the closest to an OC feel in my opinion. Seminole Heights is an up and coming neighborhood, but it still surrounded by a lower-income, high crime income area- but I live close by to it and don't have any problems. As for school, I do not have kids so I don't know for k-12, but I know USF and University of Tampa are highly ranked schools. Lots of research and USF works directly with Tampa General Hospital, one of the best hospitals in Florida. Overall, I highly recommend Tampa! Although I need to stop trying to convert all my friends and family and every one I know or talk to into moving here, don't want it to change because of too many people! :)
I moved to Tampa in 1987 and I love it! Busch Gardens, Adventure Island, numerous beautiful beaches close by and amazing parks, Lowry Park Zoo, he Tampa Riverwalk, museums, the Florida Aquarium, top notch entertainment, professional sports teams and so much more! Oh yeah, the weather is pretty great too!
Lifelong Tampanian here! Minuses about Tampa (and the overall Tampa bay area): Traffic from growing congestion, low wages, bad weather in the summer. Plusses: Relative affordability, diverse cultural life, growing tech entrepreneurial industry, proximity to world-class beaches, GREAT weather during the winter (particularly November)...Tampa is either a great small big city, or a nice big small city, depending on your point of view.
If anybody lives or is downtown a lot, you will appreciate this so much more. I go to Blake high school just on the edge of downtown and this place means so much more to me than I can express.
The best beaches in the world and now "The world's first health & Wellness City District" ~ Mayor of Tampa FL, Bob Buckhorn (Jan 06, 2016). This is the WHY our businesses are home based in the Beautiful TAMPA FL
calling me out personally for the Tampa mayor's video when you hide behind no name and no photo clone2 ??? whatever.... I love that the Mayor is POSITIVE.... and BTW I have and I do still love FL gulf beaches
u r just negative and desperate... this is not even my video. u have no reason to call me out by name for being positive while u hide and are negative. good bye.
Coach Susie I'm negative because I disagree with what you say? Best beaches in the world? If your going to say it's the best in the world this please know what your talking about.. European beaches say hi
TanicWhisper06 if rain is blessing for you you’ll be blessed almost all year round typically our rain storm season it’s from April to August and there’s a few storms in the winter as well there’s also the hurricane season from June first to December 1st
Love Tampa. I live in the east suburbs. About 35 min from Tampa, and 1 hour to Orlando. Great weather all year around, lakes, parks, the ocean, magic ,buccaneers, rays, lighting
jose jackson hey sounds like you are in a great spot. Can't wait to move back to Tampa from Chicago. Lived in Tampa from 1995-2005 then 2009-2010. My parents brought me to finish HS there.
I moved there like 👍🏾 I said I would. 4 plus years. Enjoyed everything about it. Tampa Bay, Florida? Was a joy. Only problem? I missed.Philadelphia,Pa🙈🙄🙈
As a Tampa native, I would also recommend: Fort de Soto Park (beach in St. Pete)- the water is very clear blue like pool water, ample parking, and restroom facilites are comparatively good for a beach kayaking on the Hillsborough River- nice on a warm, breezy February Ballast Point Park pier at sunset is beautiful (although parking is sparse) The Seminole Heights/Hillsborough Ave area has a lot of quaint, retro/hipster shops and such like Seminole Heights General Store, Mauricio's Bakery, and A Modern Line (mid century modern furniture) If you like drives through farms and rural scenery, Pasco County and Wesley Chapel are lovely. Sacred Heart Cathedral is a small but lovely cathedral. Also I like the chess piece shaped stairwell posts at the Plant Museum in University of Tampa For Views: Tampa is not the biggest city, but here are my favorite tall viewpoints: at University of South Florida in Beard garage- if you take the elevator to the rooftop level, you can look over the sides in every direction as far as downtown Tampa, Busch gardens, and New Tampa. It's also a good place to watch fireworks on 4th of July or New Years. Also in downtown Tampa, I really liked the Embassy Suites hotel. (maybe it's soliciting) but there are two elevators- one with a view of the outside. Ascend the elevator to window facing outside all the way to the top for a lovely view of downtown Tampa (especially at night) Then descend on the elevator with a window facing the inside of the hotel and get a real sense of vertigo as you drop past the 47 (or so) floors with layered balconies.
Brandon Colley I have an opportunity to do a transfer with my employer but it won't be effective until after my spouse transfers there first. So it won't be until the summer or fall of 2017.
I'm from the West Coast and currently living in the South. I am going to visit Tampa and see what's going on there. I still haven't found my happy medium.
Tampa and down town is a really good place lots of building but not a lot of people live here and no so many tourists so the city is sometimes empty 😕 overall a real nice place hope my city get some more recognition
According to the Florida Geological Survey more than 400 sinkholes have been reported in the state since Irma hit. Tampa Bay is already especially prone to them because of the old limestone with deep cavities. Add some rain and the ground is even more unstable.
Now I don't want to move there.I can only imagine sinking in one of their sinkholes where the limestone is from where Irma hit there. Not only that the alligators are bad in florida.I was going to move there because it's suppose to be one of the 5 best cities to live in if your on ssi disability.
How is the $7.4 million park "a gift to our residents" when they paid for it with their taxes? Incredible the mayor would say that. Vote this clown out.
What do you expect when people elect a liberal? They love using your hard earned money to build fancy things for the tourists to enjoy, while taking a dump on their own residents by making them pay for it.
Lived in Tampa from 2006-10...was fun while it lasted...lots of jobs, inexpensive secondary education, and abundant warm/hot weather...but one glaring thing Tampa doesn't have...some form of light rail (the TECO Streetcar doesn't count).
fine video and all true ... Tampa is a great place to live and on the move ... now the city needs to stand up and stop the Tampa Bay Express project (TBX) ... TBX is the planned expansion of I-275 and I-4 through the heart of Tampa and its core historic neighborhoods ... Wrong time, wrong place, wrong plan ... #stopTBX
Thank You Mayor for an informative video about Tampa, FL. Guys - How is the economy of Tampa? Which are the biggest Employer in Tampa? It seems a beautiful place to live and raise family. Any advice appreciate it. Thank You!!
Kaushal Patel Whatever you do, don't raise a family in Tampa, or Florida, most people are xenophobic and tribalist. If you absolutely have to, do it up by the pan handle and away from Jacksonville or Tallahassee.
I lived in Tampa and I found it very endearing and abundant, but being back home in the city I live in and was born in, it makes me wonder what tampa could possibly have over Fort Worth, Texas. The comparison is really just laughable.
That's great and all, but when is the traffic situation getting fixed? 2 billion for construction and nothing for better streets and traffic controls. .
Yeah baby! Can't wait to leave Chicago for good! Lived in Tampa for 11 years made a mistake to come live in Chicago. High taxes, weekly shootings, and below-zero winter temperatures.
So, I haven't visited Tampa since I was a little girl. How does Tampa compare to Savannah, Jersey City, and Charlotte? I loved neighboring NYC and Charlotte was ehh, but nice. The point is I do not want to move there for a job opportunity and become bored.
Want to move here this summer, but hope that this mayors ambitions is not driving the taxes through the roof. Also have to do more research on the insurance, have read that both home and auto insurance are high.
I might find out next week if I land a new job in Clear water...........its scary because if I do it will be a big move and I wonder if I'll be happy in Tampa Fl
