It’s also the natural shield for typhoons🤣 which is why it’s called the guardian of Taiwan 護國神山. Every typhoon got its structure damaged by yushan once the typhoon landed here.
I love hiking, especially when I meet other hikers,. As you said, greeting is the thing we used to do. We also exchanged information with each other, or just cheered us up, even though we were actually strangers. I always feel warm beacuse of the people I met in the mountains.
I love hiking mountains (百岳, 100 mts over 3,000 meters in Taiwan)in Taiwan and it's challenging but it's so beautiful and worthy. The hikers are amazing!!
People usually say every Taiwanese have to accomplish 3 things in their lifetime - hiking to the top of Jade mountain, swimming across Sun Moon Lake, walking or cycling around Taiwan, so, you are 1/3 of Taiwanese, if you allow me to call you. I am nit 100% Taiwanese yet as I have only completed 2 of the 3, although I still like to go to Jade mountain again because I had a very big rain when I was on the top and could not see anything😅
So many good tips! Brings back all the memories. I think Yushan was the first time I’ve gotten sunburned! Just a bit on my nose and hairline. Also I remember the contrast of seeing ice at the top of Yushan, then going back to Tainan and getting hit with the heat and humidity Thanks for the great video! I’m almost tempted to try Yushan again, this time as an adult. Almost.
I don’t think it was snow, but there was some water on the rocks and frozen over. It was definitely very cold. The first night we camped I pretty much just shivered the entire time.
It really is very difficult to apply for climbing Jade mountain. But other mountains over 3000m are easy to apply for. I am glad you introduce Taiwan's mountain to the world. I have a question to ask you. Don't you think the winter is a little bit cold in Taiwan. I know the weather in Canada is much colder than Taiwan. But the climate is humid cold in Taiwan. I even heard that Russians felt that it's very cold in winter in Taiwan.
If you apply with a foreigner in your group, you kinda jump to the top of the list & have a better chance to get the permit FYI. I believe it’s a group of 10 foreigners can bring 2 locals. And actually no, I don’t feel cold in Taiwan 🤣 I sweat in the winter. I’m from Nova Scotia which is very humid so, cold humidity is nothing new to me!
thanks for the video. do you mind sharing a little bit more on how you register and finding a group of hikers to go together? how do you sign up with friends and what if one of us got rejected for the permit?
Hello! My friend and her friends actually set everything up so I’m not the person who filed for our group so I’m not 100% sure, sorry! Although if someones permit doesn’t get accepted then usually you enter another lottery for a different day but you have to apply for it. We had to do that since some ppls got sick & couldn’t climb when we originally were going to in June. We reapplied and went a few months later!

There are blood myth in many ancient legend, the most famous in western or Christian culture is Noah's Ark,and it adapt into movie many times, Actually Taiwan aboriginal Bunum has a acient blood myth, too ,there's a big flood, and tribe people escape from flood to jade moutain, thats really cool. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flood_myth
