With Texas and Oklahoma's official entry into the greatest conference in collegiate athletics just months away, I've taken the liberty of compiling a very basic introductory-level course known as SEC 101.
Auburn football is simultaneously capable of delivering the most insane, memorable, odds defying, record setting, and season shattering plays and wins While also delivering the dumbest, most shocking, aggravating, and painful losses and blunders. Auburn football has more ups and downs than the friggin Himalayas.
When College football becomes its own thing, that is when USC will matter again. Both basketball teams ranked, Baseball team ranked. We will get there.
In fairness to Da Coach O, that one year of fun was probably the most fun LSU has ever had. Maybe it helps that we're the only people in the country that can understand him.
To be fair, he’s been including OU and Texas already in most of his skits. This should be a good fit for everyone. I have OU going 3-5. And Texas going 6-2. Sooner alum for what it’s worth.

I don't think the SEC is ready for the constant loop that is Boomer Sooner. It may give Rocky Top a run for its money. This is coming from a Tennessee band alum.
The inclusion of OU and Texas only helps Mizzou from a revenue standpoint; those games will be sellouts in Columbia, and will provide Mizzou two excellent rivalry games from the old Big 8 and 12.

@@hlarouxIt started because a Texas player made a hand gesture against Texas Tech during a game mocking the finger guns. The player was flagged for that. Opposing players were not flagged for throwing the horns down. The complaining started because other schools weren’t penalized for the horns down, but Texas was penalized for doing the same thing to another school. It was never about Longhorns caring about the disrespect, it was all about the unfairness with officiating.
Legitimately can't wait to see the horns down at games UT isn't playing in. You'll know we've arrived if this becomes as popular in the SEC as it was in the B12 🤗🤘

As an OU fan and native, thanks for the briefing. We will be sure to gladly give back all the flack that comes our way. Just look no further then r/cfb and you’ll see all kinds of colorful language the Sooner faithful put out there. Horns down forever, baby!
To clarify, NO Texas fan has ever complained about the gesture…it has only been 2 coaches that we do not associate with, and we actually encourage you to continue throwing up or down the Horns to remind us you can’t get enough of us 🤘🏼🤨🤘🏼

The ref thing is pretty accurate. I remember watching two different Bama games; in one the ref tripped a player (about to tackle a Bama player) on the side line. In the other the ref straight up tackled a player (about to rip off a few yards on Bama). "He ran into me." Like, no, you straight up ran down the field and tackled him.
God bless the Auburn vets. They are truly life savers. 💛 But that's the only nice thing I'll say about Auburn unless playing against any team outside of the SEC conference. I'm going to root for the SEC against the other conference teams. 😹👍
I agree with the fact that it is the finest vet school and infirmary in the country. But as an Auburn Alumnus with a degree in Anthropology and a former Tiger Eye instructor, I think it is a shame that you find all the rest of us so objectionable. You seem alright to me! Anyway, Auburn is a good safe place for young people to find themselves, friends and opportunity. I feel like most of the SEC schools are such places. I hope we all excel in this uncertain future!
As a Virgina Tech fan, Im very thankful that the rumors about us going to the SEC when the Big East went bust weren't true. I mean, post Beamer hasn't exactly been fun, but at least those early ACC titles gave me something.
If you don't like hear Rocky Top played that much, wait until the OU band shows up. They play their song after EVERY play! Seriously glad to NEVER hear it again.

Sooner fan- I'm excited OU is joining the SEC. Been to so many OU games it's going to be nice having some new traditions coming to Norman, and going to visit them. I don't know what to expect in the first year, I have them going 8-4, maybe 9-3. Getting to 10 wins in a bowl game.

As a Sooner fan, I wholeheartedly endorse the horns-down gesture. Nothing riles up a Bevo-lover so much as throwing that sign up in their face. Thanks for just keeping it hilarious and bitingly accurate, Matt, without dropping to any ugliness tactics. Not an easy tight walk, but you manage it over and over. And as an Aggie grad and fan, well, it's going to be interesting, assuming we can ever get our stuff in a sock. This year may be pretty rough in the post-Jimbo change-up era, but maybe someday--someday--the college football gods will finally shine down on A&M and allow us to get to the same level as all these other awesome teams with long-running records of winning big. You can't underestimate how much Arkansas fans are excited about having Texas back in the same conference. The SEC has tried for years to create a rivalry between Arkansas and Missouri, but that will all be forgotten now that Texas is arriving.
Okay first off, Rocky Top isn't the only song the band knows how to play. They play a different song every single down that they're on defense. Second, they've got like 65 other songs that they play, Rocky Top is just the one that's played the most because it's our unofficial fight song. Thank you, this has been my TED Talk
The only time I root for other SEC teams when they are playing Ohio State. Half my family is from Ohio. I've told them for years that if they played my teams schedule, they'd be lucky to get ten wins. (This was before Michigan and Penn St. became good again.) One year my team played the number 1 team in the country three times in six weeks. Meanwhile Ohio State was splattering large high schools and bragging about it. Anyways we don't chant SEC when someone beats Coastal Carolina. Its got to be the big teams. Or like when the SEC eventually gets 8 teams in the 12 team playoff. (You know they day before they expand it to 16 teams) Welcome to the SEC, may the odds never be in your favor.
As a Texas fan - dont care if you spend your time making our hand signal in any direction you choose. Its not our fault its so good everybody tries to replicate it...
Literally the only thing we’re sensitive about is the false narrative that we’re sensitive to horns down. It’s the biggest lie anyone has ever told. We play OU and tech every year… to think we care so much that those games don’t make our heads pop… they didn’t. Bc we don’t care. We actually love it.🤦🏾
I love me some Coach O... He is pretty awesome if you keep him teaching Defensive line technique and giving the Rah Rah speeches to fire up the players. Sure nobody knows what he is saying, but kids will run through a brick-wall for him. Just so long as that brick-wall isn't full of 5-Star recruits...

As a long time South Carolina resident, I pull for the Gamecocks, bless my heart. But since my actual alma mater is in the Big 10, I love any SEC team that also hates Ohio State and/or Michigan. Thank y'all very much for your support.
