Welding a diamond rubover and claw setting 

It is a great piece of kit. Was well worth the risk of buying it, even though I struggled to use it at first. I use it on most jobs I work on, it adds metal where you wouldn't normally be able to and avoids having to un/reset stones etc.

Lower carat gold doesn't weld as nicely as 18ct but it works and the process is tha same. The only stones you can weld without worrying are diamonds. All other stones need a lot of caution. I regularly weld next to sapphire,ruby, emerald,topaz etc but I am VERY careful.

Very thin gold wire. It is usually known as laser wire and comes in all the different metals.

Chrisdijanto Widjaja Welding next to diamonds will not harm them unless they are of a very low quality. With coloured stones you have to be alot more careful, you have to weld so that the blast of the weld is far enough away from the stone so it does not harm it. I would not recommend welding next to opals, pearls, coral etc. but I do very carefully weld next to sapphires, rubies, emeralds, topaz, tanzanites, garnets, tourmalines, spinels, CZs, aquamarines etc. You have to plan the weld in a way that you will not be so near to a stone as to harm it .I explain this a bit more in the description to my video of retipping an opal.

David Lane I've never used a laser welder so unfortunately can't compare them. You're right, it is predictable in that the power settings stay accurate. The quality of the weld is greatly affected by the quality of the metal but I suppose the same applies to lasers.
