Here is yet another exhaust welding video. I know I have a lot of them on my channel, but this is my first video exclusively with the Titanium Flux 125 from harbor freight.
Welder used in the video ( Easy-Flux 125 Amp Welder )

I suck at welding... Someone, please show me how you flux-core exhaust pipe with the Titanium flux 125 "video proof only please" and I will feature you on my channel. #TPV #Flux125challenge

Are you getting all the oil off the pipe? Hit that shit with a wheel 1st then com it quick with a map gas torch. Drop down to .025” wire for that thin shit

I think only MIG goes that small. I believe .030 is as small as flux gets.

@@TPVPRO The metal warping popped the tack on the other side. A couple extra tacks can help and the surface material cleaned before welding. Like how you hit the end of your weld with a wire wheel. Don't be afraid to jump around to the other side and lay down a line of weld. Giving the other side some cooling time. I know it's only exhaust. Welders react differently due to the quality of the machine and wire used. The average person using a less expensive welder won't care about the looks as much as getting a good weld down.

A tip to help keep the pipe from seperating is do more tacs and grind them down some so you can weld over them without any noticable lumps. I've gotta get a hold of some exhaust tubing and test myself!

I do a ton of flux core on my day job. A trick to thin materials is instead of doing circles do a drag and whip and whip quickly it will greatly reduce burn thru. Sometimes I will turn up the wire speed a bit depending on the thickness. Nice work for just starting out.

When welding tube, place your parts 1/16-1/8 inch apart. Lay three tacks 120 degrees apart and clean them up. Then use a method called back-stitching where you are placing multiple (3-4) small welds (1" long maximum) at equidistant positions around the tube. After cleaning them, then continue stitching between welds. On thicker material, once the tube is stitched up, you would typically do a dressing pass around the tube to provide a smoother finish, then grind smooth. On thin-wall, the weld is ugly but it will be solid and suffer minimal distortion.

I'm about to purchase this welder and I have to say your welding is likely way better than the hot mess I'll end up with. I took oxy acetylene welding classes in the 9th grade. I could not run a bead no matter how I tried. This type of welding looks like it will be a lot less complicated with some practice. I like the fact that some can admit they are not great at what they are doing. I'll tell someone right off the bat I'm probably gonna screw this up and after the fact I screwed that up. Good video, Thanks for the time and effort.

Thank you for the vid. I have been playing with this myself lately on some scrap exhaust pipe. I eventually found a technique where you put down a bunch of overlapping tack welds all the way around. Almost looks like a finished product at that point ( stack of dimes~ ish) Once that is done, now you have more material laid down and can clean it up and lay a nicer bead over the top with less of a chance of burning thru.

I ordered a dual exhaust for my F250 from MPI, and plan on using my Titanium 125 to weld it up. This vid is just what I needed. I have only welded part of a broken dirt bike frame, some small holes in the exhaust tube for the same bike and I made a tool with nuts and bolts to get the forks apart for rebuild. If I can successfully weld my exhaust, the money I saved will have paid for my entire welder helmet and supplies. Thanks!

@Governor_William_J_Lepetomane
You might try to turn the workpiece 90 degrees counterclockwise and weld from left to right rather than from forward to back. For a lot of people, it is a more natural and accurate movement, and may make it easier to rest your right on the left. As you said, it takes practice! And 3-4 tacks might have held the two pieces tighter together.

I have a Tiflux-125 as well and it can make very nice welds with the proper settings, wire, prep, and cleanup. My first few attempts of welding looked like fly 💩 on the thin stuff > 1/8" the recommended settings are a little voltage rich and a bit slow on the wire feed speed from others experience and my own. My last practice attempt I went down a full letter on the amperage and up a full number of the wire feed speed from the recommended settings and it welded much smoother. No bb's to speak of and a wire wheel on a grinder was all the cleanup I needed for it to look like MIG. This does lower your penetration though so make sure you grind off the mill scale to get some more penetration into the weld joint.

Always clean the metal where you are going to weld. Even those new exhaust pieces are coated with an anti-rust coating to keep them from rusting while sitting in a warehouse. On your flange plates, I know you tapped the holes for the studs you made but consider backing them out a 1/16 and tacking them on the backside.

Alot of people appreciate and are in your shoes. Keep making videos. Also I'm sure you heard already, but just weld on opposite ends to allow the metal to cool and contract the gaps. Hope that makes sense. I would have tacked that 4 times before welding and would have alternated sides. Either way.... decent job

I been researching cheap welders to use and by far the titanium ones I have seen have been the best ones to get. I do flux core and stick processes on the jobsites but do standard mig and tig in the shop. I'm sure with my 9 years exp it would be no time for me to weld decent beads. Obviously aren't gonna mig or tig quality but not bad for flux core on thin stuff. Good job mate. I been debating on between the gas version for 200 more. Idk tho. Gas Makes the process double the price for exhaust and I have overhead, vertical and horizontal flux experience. With xray gotta grind ur start and stops. Cuz it crater cracks. On exhaust. Who cares lol.

How does the back side of the weld look? Did you get enough penatration in the metal? Some times when I weld and I'm still learning, on Mig I leave a little gap and fill it in. I see tig guys do not. What I sometimes do since I sheetmetal weld is, I just get good tacks all over the area to prevent shrinkage and do not let the metal get to hot. One thing to note, if your welding galvanise pipe, never do that. Always grind the galvanizing off before you weld because it is toxic. Good luck with your videos.

Tack more often at closer intervals with smaller tacks. Then weld continuous or tack to tack. I would clean the corrosion protection off in the welded area it will be compromised by the heat anyway and it will probably not help the bead with that flux core.
