Welding overhead 7018 tips and tricks. Use a 6010 first sometimes that helps. But if you don’t have access to 6010 just use a 7018 on the first pass. But it is easier with a 6010 first pass

I've welded for years and always did things the same way. It's great to see another welders perspective. I pick up a lot tricks watching your videos. Your videos are good for all welders and a God send to the new welders. A lot of us older guys had to figure it out ourselves and we picked up a lot of bad habits and misconceptions along the way. Keep up the good work. I hope you get a lot of followers and make LOTS of video $$$$. Ps My friend always wanted to learn to weld. I'm now retired and live in a condo so I set up his garage with all my welding equipment. My new fav. pastime is now teaching my buddy and doing a few small projects. All we need now is a beer fridge.

Hi Chris! Good to see you, my friend. I understand exactly what you’re accomplishing by running the 6010 root. Me personally, I’ve never done that and, like you, I’ve never heard of having to grind the mill scale off. Heck, I can’t even tell you how many times that I’ve been questioned about why I’m waisting time grinding the paint off! Me, I always put my root in with 7018 if that’s what the detail calls for but I also manipulate the puddle with a sort of weave and back step pattern that I didn’t even realize I was doing until I was trying to show someone else how to run overhead one day. Bottom line, there’s more than one way to skin a cat and as long as you’re comfortable with it and you’re passing inspection, it’s not wrong. Be blessed.

When I first bought a set of rods I wanted some 1mm rods (theyre like matchsticks) and the shop didnt want to sell me them, he decided I would have so much trouble with them I wouldnt use them......... I really like using them to be honest Something I picked up fast, because I learnt by welding up car chassis' was that you have to run atleast two beads,Do one and clean it ... the first one burns all the junk off then run the second one and that one will come out nice and neat because I already got rid of everything the grinder wouldnt touch with heat..I also learnt not to be under that stuff cause things fall off and set your butt on fire...I'm a blacksmith so being on fire doesnt panic me but being under a car with a hot bead down my back..not funny These videos are great btw really enjoying following and learning

Outstanding Content my Friend. I've been Mig and Tig welding the past 4 years and just bought a motor driven lincoln. Trying to learn stick and I spend more time filling holes that I blow out (Sucks) but occasionally I lay one down that meets with my rather high standards. Recently I was rebuilding an old smoker 3/16 sheet steel and try as I might I just couldn't do the overhead stuff, had to get the mig out to get it done for thanksgiving. I don't do much with stuff thicker than 1/8 and 3/16 but plan to do some pipe fence and a metal building on my property. Any tips on the thin stuff? Keep up the great videos. Thanks Bud!

My man sounds like Bob Ross except for with Bob Ross painted nature seens and he's welding, he's like with that soft voice we're going to put this weld here amd it's a happy weld out here by itself and you just place it here, your in mo hurry and you feeling good and you know it's just natural the way that natural things work and it all flows together and it's just a beautiful happy little weld that goes across here and he's got that soft tone voice to, LOL Bob Ross used to talk with maybe you youngsters don't know who I'm talking about but Bob Ross had that big kinky hair and he's a painter and he had a show on PBS forever you know, since I was a kid myself and I'm 53, he say thk hs like, maybe this tree is out here by himself but he's he's part of Nature and look how beautiful he is all by himself with his Limbs and maybe we'll put some leaves on him and you know, he'd say stuff like that, this guy here almost sounds like that, he reminded me of Bob Ross when he was talking with that soft voice, now I haven't watched this guy before, this is the first video I have watched of him, so that might not be the way he talks at all, just in this one little instant he was talking he just took me back to that Bob Ross in the way he was just like you know, he's just going to put this little weld here you know and you don't have to be hard you don't have to push hard or anything like that and just let that thing burn that scale away so it gets a nice root pass in there you know the nice soft tone voice, you know and all that, I'm telling you my man could be on a PBS taking bobs place except with welding lol
