Don is not the only one waiting for the Everlast to be put to the test !

Soon,,, Soon.... I am thinking it would be a good test to see if I feel confident enough in its penetration to make the new crane for the second floor materials lift...

Great Job! Awesomeness Extreme. After 30 days the worst should be over. Good on Don!

If you welding wire is making birds nests, try tightening up the spool tension a bit. We had the same problem after guys would change the spool and leave it too loose and then it would make the biggest birds nest inside. A for mill scale, 40 years ago when being taught how to weld, no one ever told me to remove the mill scale.

Yeh, I was going to suggest the same thing about the spool. I’ve run my own tests and generally, removing the scale does result in better penetration and stronger welds. But if you can’t, try running a bit hotter.

@10swatkins 2 месяца назад
The problem is the tension is tight as it can get and still the bouncing of the trailer gets to it.... Only way I have found is to put a piece of tape over the top of the spool when traveling..

It does help with crap in the welds.... It's not a big problem with stick and hot mig as it is with tig welding...

I'm not a welder by any standard, but my welds hold. Work that heat in.

Steve, are you sure that plate is 3/16”? It looks like 1/4”. I’m always surprised that with all the welding protection you have (as you should, I’m the same way) that you don’t use a glove on your gun hand. The UV from welding is much worse than what we get from the sun and is much more dangerous.
@10swatkins
@10swatkins 2 месяца назад
The big plates are 3/16 the little ones are 1/4.... The light from the gun is shielded by the nozzle on the gun.... Very, very little ever get to my left hand... Now when I am using flux core wire I take off the nozzle and that is a different story.... Gloves on both then...
@melgross

@@10swatkins ok, but I guarantee your hand isn’t shielded.. I can see it being lit up.

3/16 for the plates and gussets? Thought it was 3/8-even worse for thickness mismatch. BTW-I was in Houston last week and thought about you driving out to the Bash. Hope it’s a good trip!

@@10swatkins Oh, sure. I was just checking my eyes. That plate looked a lot thicker than 3/16 in the video. If it was 3/16, it didn't seem like it would be that much of a welding mismatch with the square tubing.
