I love absolutely, positively love everything about windy Welly being my home for eight years since 2009. My favorite day off activities included train rides to other suburbs, walking round the bay and trekking up nearby mountains. I lived just at the base of Mt. Victoria at Newtown so it was an easy access for me. However, I made it a regular dose to climb Te Koupahu taking the Brooklyn route to the turbine, up the observatory then down to Island Bay. For my round the bay, I particularly enjoyed the long hour walk around Miramar peninsula because of the panoramic vistas at every turn. I may have left New Zealand in 2016 but the fond memories are etched into my senses. Thus, watching your travelogue on Wellington seems to be de javu for me. Thumbs up for the virtual tour!

Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed this virtual tour around Wellington. My son moved to Plimmerton around 2005, after a while he bought a house in Whitby, so I got to know the city a bit over a number of visits. I grew to like the area a bit more each time I visited and discovered more about the surrounding suburbs. Even though my son now lives in Auckland I always try to spend time in Wellington when I visit New Zealand.

Hello Tim, when you posted the Wellington suburban line a long time ago, I spontaneously fell in love with Wellington. I was particularly fascinated by its urban lightness with the French touch, as can be seen on the streets. If I had to live on the North Island, Wellington would be my first choice. - Greetings, Heinz
@Timsvideochannel1
@Timsvideochannel1 3 года назад
Wellington grew on me, the first time I visited it was a wet and windy day, the city was not at its best, the second time I went it had been rocked by a quake a day or two earlier and there was a lot of damage being cleared up. My remaining 4 or 5 visits have been in much better weather, on such days the city goes outdoors and comes to life. It is an area I'd choose to live in if I moved to New Zealand's North Island.

Hi John, it must have been a difficult decision to leave such wonderful place, although Oz also boasts some awesome cities as well. Considering Wellington is a capital city, it is a relaxed place where people have time to enjoy the views, especially from the water front cafes. I am editing Part 2 at the moment, visiting places that are not on the normal tourist route, the kind of places frequented by Wellingtonians rather than foreign tourists, I often stayed at a Backpackers on the seafront at Plimmerton that has just about the best view to be had anywhere along the Kapiti coast. I'm glad you enjoyed this visit to your hometown. Cheers. Tim.

Hope to get back to NZ and see my sis in Wellington next year as both are pretty much covid free. Take care Tim and keep up the good work. When my son moved to New Zealand, Plimmerton was his first home, the guy who owned the Backpackers at the time also had a house on the seafront, part of which he rented to my son and his wife. I had planned on visiting Tasmania this year, but the virus put an end to that, although as it turned out we had a superb summer here in the UK, even if we were restricted to our back gardens. Australia is a big country and far more varied than I had realised, I'm looking forward to being able to travel again, my back garden doesn't have the same appeal now winter has arrived. Take care. Hello Hans, I hope you and your family are keeping well. Wellington is a lovely city, the countryside is never far away, although it is small, it has a big city buzz about it, as you say there is always something going on. Its funny how cars caused railways to contract, today it is the number of cars on the road that is causing railways to find a new lease of life, all over the world cities are investing in their railways as cars choke cities to death, both with pollution and congestion. I'll look out for your Email. Take care. Tim.

English is an odd language, people in Newcastle (England) have a dictionary of their own and if I'm in Glasgow, I have real difficulty understanding people. Very nice, indeed! Though Wellington, smaller than Auckland, is NZ's Capital, I'd hazzard a guess that Wellington would dwarf Australia's capital, Canberra, somehow. The entire Australian Capital Territory is barely more than Canberra and its suburbs, and honestly, the ACT should not have separate status at all. It should be regarded simply as a region of NSW, like the Hunter Valley, New England, Riverina, Illawarra, etc.
@Timsvideochannel1
@Timsvideochannel1 3 года назад
Hi Neil. glad you enjoyed it, just as people often think of Auckland as New Zealand's capital, they also think of Sydney as being Australia's capital whereas as you bring to our attention Canberra is the capital, it is also only the 8th largest city in Oz. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canberra - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wellington. Using these two articles, both cities are relatively small, Canberra having a population of 426,704 (2019) and Wellington 215,100 (2020). Facts and figures make interesting comparisons.
