Lol it really is hard to believe. This was one of my first "favorite songs" that I remember recording off the radio on a cassette recorder. Somewhere buried in my grandparents basement is a box of those tapes. And one that says "4 mom blonds hey-ay" because that's what I thought the radio dude called them 😂😂

I think EVERY generation at some point utters the phrase "music today just isnt as good as MY generation " or some variation of it.

That hat was destiny for her. I've seen this video countless times and I can't get over how perfectly it accentuates her own look; and also, how her own look, from her eyes to the shape of her mouth, especially when she smiles big (and don't take it wrong...I'm not 'perving out"...I'm talking aesthetically)....her own face compliments the look of the hat. That was my song in the 90s when I was a teenager. I played that song so much on my Walkman and my first CD player (it was the first album I ever owned on CD) that my parents couldn't handle it anymore. Even now with 40 years old my 70 year old mom says, the first note of the song in the radio and she knows what's up (no pun intended 😝) and thinks of me 😊

Oh Hell No! This song is not underrated, it is iconic! I am not comfortable with this trend of labeling everything "underrated", just because it's great. 'What's Up' is the Anthem of a decade! It is widely known, and deeply appreciated. It's the theme song for anyone who navigated their younger years through the 90s, and it is a rallying cry for countless others who discovered this song years later. I understand that you were attempting to express how meaningful the song feels, but using the word "underrated" is not the compliment that you think it is. It doesn't give credit to the impact that "What's Up" had on more lives than you can imagine. This song is not "underrated", it has been rated, and it has scored more points than we can count.

@@TryMyMartiniI think he means the actually meaning of the song is underrated. A lot of people just know this so by the iconic “ Hey Yea”, but the actually lyrics and harmonies are underrated. Same thing with Hotel California, the song is legendary, but the guitar and bass guitar and very underrated

Back in the day there used to be these deals where if you sign up for a CD a month at full price you get the first five for like .25 cents each or some such thing. I remember liking this song from the radio ( it was a big hit), so I purchased the CD. Best 25 cents I ever spent. Entire record was a banger. Ended up playing the hell out it. Yes, she's got pipes. Btw, sorry to break it to you, but she's pretty old now...and er..she doesn't swing that way, so.....probably best not to write any love letters. 😂😂

i remember my dad used to play this all the time when i was little and i HATED it! but ohhhh boy how his music taste impacted me in life so much because it has changed immensely!!! LOL i love listening to oldies more than a lot of new music just because of how reminiscing it is and it also makes me wish how much i could live through the times this kind of music was put out.

Linda Perry is super underrated. She writes a lot of songs for a lot of different people, but the one solo album that I know of by her, "In Flight", is an amazing album and in my all-time top ten. She saved all of her best songs for herself on that one.

I was in a bar in Pittsburgh years and years ago. There was some little band playing when they stopped and said someone wanted to come in stage and sing. It was a very drunk Linda Perry and she played her guitar and did a rendition of this song. It was incredible. She finished took a bow and then left the stage. Mind. Blown.
