i read “strength” instead of “length” at first 😂 you right tho I’m excited for this guy. Really wishing him a long and healthy career so he can show what he’s got!
The last time we had this much hype about a rookie was Zion. It's kind of interesting how visually they look so different and almost comical if you put two of them next to each other. But, on a serious note, what REALLY separates them is not that 0.1% in terms of athleticism but in how much more Wemby is a competitor. He LOVES basketball, he WANTS to win... Zion, meanwhile, loved his food more than the game.
its crazy cause for me its being so insane that he wasnt really a bust. see a man doing what he's doing at this size is just unbelivable. love your videos man, keep up! 🇧🇷
how? Watch the game again. The entire lakers team just wanted kobe to shoot. So kobe did that and what happened was he made the entire other team tired. The 6 players that guarded him took breaks while he kept taking shot after shot. HOw is it rigged? the team gave up. Both teams gave up. Kobe got bored and was tired of a crappy team so he took all the shot and made it. It was no different than any other game besides him taking 10 more shots. he shoots 30-40 attempts then you think and that day he hit 81. Not many NBA players have the cardio and energy to create space for 40+ attempts dude lol. LOL they get so tired around attempt 35 their accuracy is so off they need to dunk, This is why so man yplayers can;'t play elite D and score. Cause they start to shake, That's why MJ attacked the rim so savagely when he was tired dude@@bjgreenthumb4988
i don't think it's a good analogy, though. Victor has skills Ming never did - like shooting 3s, advanced handles, etc. Yao had similarly good basketball IQ and vision but he never ever had the same perimeter skills (and obviously never had nearly as much athletic ability).
@@low-keymarz2684 oh, i agree that Yao didn't realize his full potential. But, it's clear he wasn't gonna be a 3pt shooter or a guy to take people off the dribble from the 3pt line. He was a traditional big but one with high IQ.
1:30 this is exactly what I’ve been seeing as well since the very first summer league game then pre season into the season. He is learning rapidly from his mistakes and nobody else seems to notice so I am very glad you did. Great video!!
@@ClayTorres69 That's wild, not even from Alabama. Maybe next time when you make a statement try making it versatile, I'll help. "Do you date your cousin?" you just have a better chance of hitting the nail using open minded sentences. Hope this helps you in another argument.
The player he blocked twice in a row actually tweeted a “noted” emoji to Wembanyama’s reaction to not going to the Rockets. I guess he took the wrong notes.
Actually, the interview i saw, Victor said he didn't care which team drafted him. He would just be glad to get drafted by any team. I guess he can be more honest about that now since he's already in.
@@hellbent7066 Yeah, but as an organisation the Spurs have a lot better track record of developing young talent and winning championships. Plus Rockets are loaded at front court and adding Wemby would halt the progression of Sengun and Jabari Smith Jr. Demoting one of them (probably Jabari) from starter to bench player is a good way to lose good player with great potential in free agency, while on the other hand Spurs had the C position waiting specifically for him. Plus as a Rocket he wouldn't have one of the best basketball coaches ever mentoring him :P
@Deadhammer666 I can't argue with anything. I was just repeating what he said himself. I totally understand his response because it would have been detrimental for him (before he entered the draft) to say what teams he don't want to go to, and then end up getting drafted by one of them. So, when asked, he answered "He didn't care which team drafted him." I'm glad he ended up with the Spurs. I hope he goes on to win Rookie of the year and the Championship in his first season.
Same. I always thought he would be a monster on defense but might struggle on offense with his 3pt shot for the first 40 games, maybe a year. I am right on defense but on offense he is also pretty good, despite missing all those shots.
great commentary.there are also lots of shots where offensive players just pass the ball. They don't want to end up on the wrong side of the highlight reel
This is a great video - really enjoyed the diagrams of the court to describe plays and accompany your commentary. Never seen it been done like that before. Please keep doing more of those! Had to subscribe for that
He had a bunch of incredible plays. But that one play the broadcast didnt capture was the best one to me. A spin fake inside to spin outside on an inbound play, to immediately rise up and shoot after completely losing Dillon Brooks😂
Great breakdown, all that was missing was that spin, step back he did on Brooks and pointed at him after scoring since he mentioned all that was special about Wemby was that he was tall.
You forgot to mention that when wembys defensive presence is on the floor the other other team becomes overwhelmed on offense alot of the time, especially when wembys in the paint.
I love the fact that the moment he realized his shot isn't falling, he started going to the basket. The only thing he needs to learn is to give space to his teammates to grow too, not try to do everything on his own. To win chips, you need a whole team around you. He has the best organization to teach him that, so I'm not too worried.
Imagine a KD (+ like 4 inches taller) who also has one of the best defenders of all time…. That’s probably Voctor Wembanyama in a few mere years, bros potential is absolutely limitless, hope he has some of that Mamba mentality and stays healthy
he is so humble for such a good and famous player. Some players let fame get there head although it is early in his career he keeps a calm head and just stays humble
Wemby has played a handful of NBA games, and I've already seen him make about a dozen plays that no other player in modern history could make... only maybe Wilt or Bill Russell
Thank you for your superb analysis spot on! This is the most excitement I’ve felt for a rookie NBA player since! Queen James and I believe his ceiling is even higher! A true Unicorn!
Wemby was not that aggressive in this game as he was in foul trouble early in the first half of the Mavs game. But his teammates need to find him more specially in transition. I saw no less than 5 missed opportunities. This team though is young and playing a not so easy to learn Popovich system. They will figure it out in time and when they do it will be another decade of championship contention for the Spurs.
Love the channel man. You actually break down plays and the meaning behind different screens and cuts. Keep it up my man I can see you working with a basketball team doing film work! Good shit man
Calling it now he will have quadruple doubles in his career….10 blocks can be very easy for him he can block a lot of hard contested shots most can only look like they might block it
@@sepg5084 You speaking on that being his average getting those kind of numbers multiple nights, I said in his career. He could only get 5 quadruple doubles in a 10 year career for all I care for it’s just a feat he could do with his type of play
@@tesseract2144 Didn’t really peep his steals, haven’t really seen even a lot of shorter players get 10 steals in a game but if he could pull that off he’s really a 2K created player
ROFLMAO Wimby's selfie up near the ceiling. Same view as when your dad used to hold you high into the air as a child :) If you divide plays up by the altitude of the players: There's dribbles and 3's etc Then there's post-ups and dunks and chase-down blocks and now we're getting the high altitude stuff from Wimby snd Chet.
It seems like Spurs are getting almost all the great seven footers 😋Wemby also has the laid back personality of his predecessors. If Popovich will decide to keep his position of Head Coach, I don't see Wembanyama leaving the Spurs.
@@GOATiology Damn, I've been checking out some rookies lately, and there are some future all-star bigs. Chet and Wemby will compete for ROY, but quietly Derek Lively II is doing EXACTLY what they were missing on Mavs, and apart from his rim protection his P&R game with Luka is impressive to say the least. OKC looks like a future dynasty, with all the main pieces to championship puzzle already in their hands, now it's just a matter of time when they will finish putting them in the right order + they have tremendous draft capital left, so I think they might trade a 1st rounder for vet like DeRozan (Bulls will blow it up soon IMHO).
The crazy part is with how lengthy and mobile Wemby is, shots that normally looks open just isn't with him. It's gonna take the NBA some time to adjust to this cause it's just such a freakish occurrence when you get blocked after like a solid 2 foot of spacing.
Wemby has all the talent. Athleticism and speed for his size. Offense and defense iq is higher than most. Shooting, dribbling, mid, post game. It’s all there. To me though, best quality is his ability to adapt and is already growing as an nba player, that to me shows signs that we will see greatness from him some day
He's a nice guy. Impossible to not liking him, even with the obnoxious media coverage. They want to milk his image... But he looks down to earth and hopefully won't become a pain like the media darling before him or other entitled players.
This is was a great demonstration of Wemby's perimeter defense. He guarded Greene and Jabari. Greene is probably top 3-4 guard in terms of pure athleticism along with Ja, Ant, and LaVine. and Jabari is 6'10-6'11... not many people in the NBA can really "disrupt" his 3pt shot but Wemby did.
