This episode helped me so much on Until Dawn. Of course, before I knew you could leave the Wendigo locked in the tunnel, I remembered too late that they mimic voices and..oh poor Ashley..

What I appreciate about this show so much is the folklore is actually quite accurate. Unlike most other films that are only loosely based off of folklore of the creatures they feature.

and even goes to the effort of also showing that not all the folklore on these creatures are true because of how old these stories are and that they get warped with time

One thing they got wrong though: the Wendigo is actually Algonquin, not Cree. And some depictions of it describe it as having antlers and many animalistic traits. It’s apparently so hungry that it’s gnawed off pieces of its own flesh.

I miss these episodes where Dean knew what he was doing. Seasons 4 and 5 seemed like he hardly knew anything and Sam had to research the stuff.

Yup, so you have a creature that is ageless, makes usain bolt look like a snail , could literally tear you in half with ease, and, On top of all that is basically unkillable unless you have a flare gun, blow torch, or flamethrower

Btw, neither this show or until dawn invented the wendigo, its actually a 17th century native american folklore. The wendigo is usually seen as a tall creature with the head of a deer with glowing red eyes and sharp teeth and a long tounge. Also the skin is so tough that you cant get through it without lighting it on fire, witch is the one of the 2 things that both supernatural and until dawn got right about the creatures. Everything else goes aginst the legend.

CloverW your description goes against the legend. A deer walking on hind legs with glowing eyes in a fan art picture. The real legends say it's tall, white, with the skin pulled back tight against the bones, with the head of any number of forest animals

The deer skull thing was never part of the native legends, that was made up for Pet Cemetery. And youre wrong, they ARE humans that turned to cannibalism in the winter and over time and human consumption become less and less human. And you dont burn the whole body, you have to use a knife coated in sanctified ash to carve out their frozen hearts and burn them on a bonfire tended overnight

Surprisingly one of the most accurate versions of what a Wendigo is, not the weird deer skull thing Although you dont burn the whole thing, you have to incapacitate it, carve out its heart, and then burn the heart which takes hours since its frozen

John Doe skinwalkers as much as I know are like werewolf...but they are bigger and I think more aggressive and they don't need full moon to turn into this massive dog.

According to native legends, a skinwalker is not actually a monster. Theyre dark shamans that use animals skins to turn into various animals. Only way to prevent them from changing is to steal the skins. Buuuuuut if you do that you might end up getting a nasty curse so its best to just avoid them if at all possible If i remember correctly the folk lore comes from either the same tribes or at least nearby regions to the wendigo, but not the same thing
