The relationship between the Roman Empire and the Far East is a topic that cyclically returns to the fore, invariably bringing in the well-known references to the academic legend of the notorious "lost legion" of Crassus and his men who, after having fought against the Chinese army would have been deported to Lixian / Lijan / Liqian.
If the tale of the "Roman legionaries in China" is very likely nothing more than a myth, on the contrary there are several references about actual contacts between the Roman world and the Far East at least since the time of Augustus.
Also, trying at any cost to contact China in spite of the blockade imposed by the Parthians, the Romans ended up giving life to an articulated trade route which among its consequences had a flourishing of relations with the Tamil kingdoms of southern India.
As always, true History is even more fascinating than fantasy ...
