I thought the exact same thing! Herzog could create a movie about anything and anyone. I LOVE the man. He among other filmakers inspired me in my teens to become a filmmaker. Just turned 60, and became homeless, living out of my car. Likely I'll never achieve my dream, but dammit it is still within me as a dream. And to me, Werner's films have often been filmed dream states. So, guess I HAVE in a way been a filmmaker...!

Ok but here’s something about the Frankish Kings that maybe even Herzog and Tyson don‘t realize: they are the ones who turned the Franks from free warriors into literal serfs. When Clovis conquered Gaul, the Franks were fearsome warriors. When Charlemagne passed half of Europe to his three sons, the descendents of those fearsome warriors were leal peasants bound to land and lord. That‘s one achievement the patriotic school system doesn’t tell you about.
