Just looking at product pictures of unworn boots doesn’t show you what to expect from standard wear and tear.
Same goes for pics of boots that have been thrashed!
So let’s check out my Wesco Boss 7500 Engineer boots. They’ve got almost 3 years of very regular wear. I think they’ll give you a good idea of what to expect once you’ve broken in your pair of engineer boots!

Love ‘em. Wearing my Wesco custom bosses right now. Baker’s recommended I get custom sizing since my foot is so low volume. You’re look perfect.

Thanks Nathan. It took some effort to get here as they were pretty uncomfortable for me to break in due to high foot volume. I’ve been working on a review, but I am finding that talking about boots comes less naturally to me than talking about jackets.

@@DudsByDel slip on boots are so much more difficult to get sized correctly. You aren’t alone and so people have a real tough time getting engineer boots on and off. Mine are still too much volume even with custom sizing. Put in an insert and now the toes are tight. Next step, 3/4 inserts😁. Breakin has been easy though more of an annoyance when they are flopping on my heal. I’m a 12B Brannock with very low instep and an arch 🫤🔫

I have the same ones since one year. I rotate them too with a couple of Red Wings and Trumans, so I wear them ca twice a week. Walking the dog mostly. Got them muddy a few times and been caught in the rain as well. Still never conditioned, though it has got a bit drier at one particularly broken in spot. But as long as they stll get overall shiny by brushing them, I won't condition them. I also use trees. One thing I did right at the beginning though is I took the removable leather insole out, so I can break in the one under it. This made the boot a bit roomier and for I while I wore them buckled down to one extra hole I punched. One of these days I plan to put the leather insole back.

Good point about the leather insole. Should have done that during the break in period it was quite difficult for me. Read about that trick like 1.5 years after I had the boots 😅

Hey man sizing can be tough. You can mail tracings and measurements of your feet in to Baker’s Boots and they will make a good recommendation. Otherwise you can take a chance

I got my mister lou's from ship john. Stock photos of the same boot from both the ship john and the wesco websites vs. The in-person boot are vastly different from each other. Pretty wild but understandable.

Yes! I used these because they are at opposite ends of the spectrum. No matter how you slice it, they’re a great pair of boots

Great boots man,.... Never owned engineer boots but I am thinking about getting a pair. One question is sizing, Can you talk about how you picked the sizing? Could you compare the size with some more common brands? Another question, do you think if you didn't use the shoe tree they would look more wrinkled and used?

Hey man thanks. I went with sizing recommendation from the store, in this case Bakers Boots. Engineer sizing can be tricky so if you’re able to get that kind of advice go for it. I sent in tracing and measurements. Without shoe trees, the tow will collapse more quickly, and may very well develop more wrinkles. It is, it’s own kind of look compared to natural wear and using shoe trees.

Those look nice. I like a the tan and light brown but It doesnt matter what color my boots start as they always end up dark brown

With time these will become much much darker. Do you apply any products to your boots? They often will significantly darken boots on top of whatever effect regular wear produces.

How did you choose your size?

I’m an 8.5 EE on the Brannock device. These are 8.5 E, was recommended size by the folks at Baker’s Boots. Works well but took longer to break in than my lace up boots.
