Wes is a legend, getting better all the time and putting regs in difficult spots. Sometimes those crazy plays make it hard for the regs to put Wes on a range. Similar to how dwan and ivey play. Some crazy holdings mixed in at some frequency
@elyastoohey6621
@elyastoohey6621 2 года назад
That’s how regs play too. Just balancing out your range to make you hard to play against. The upside/EV to playing crap holdings. When you pull off a gross bluff or flop some great cards, they think that you’re al title nuts. Remember that 7-5 off has about a 35% chance against AK.
@ozrenbalic6051
@ozrenbalic6051 2 года назад
@@elyastoohey6621 that's just raw equity of 75o. What is just as important, if not more important, is that it has very poor equity realization. Compared to its suited, more connected cousin (say 76s), you're more likely to end up with nothing more than a mediocre pair with no kicker, and no additional equity. You have no chance of getting a two-card flush and no chance of drawing to one. You are two times less likely to get an open ended straight draw due to gap, less likely to get a pair and a straight draw, and less likely to get a straight. It is a horrible hand, and there's no reason to "balance your range" with it.
@elyastoohey6621
@elyastoohey6621 2 года назад
@@ozrenbalic6051 There are trade offs to flying off the handle with a trash hand though You make it to showdown or show the bluff you become a lot harder to play against. I'm not syaing play this hand often. Im no high stakes pro. But you will see high stakes players use trash hands just for the fact that it widens their perceived range and makes them that bit harder to play against. now of course 7-6 and especially 7-6 suited is much more playable. Mathematically, 7-5 off is an auto muck. Pure EV. But trash hands do have the silver lining of disorientating your opponents. Most players should avoid it. But its something you once in a while see from top players. If you're playing on anonymous tables, low-md stakes, or you're relatively unknown, don't do it.

I agree the river bet on the final hand wasn't a pure bluff, but it was a merged range for sure. Wesley doesn't think Tiger can have a 6, so that plus his relative hand strength = fire away. Guys are gonna have to start zagging against him on flops and turns especially or he's going to steamroll! Fun player to watch
@jakecooper5855
@jakecooper5855 2 года назад
You are giving the spot waaaaay too much thought, I think you're watching too many analysis videos. It was clearly a bet for value, and any doubt of that was removed after he confidently turned his cards over once called. You can't fake the body language confidence he had, turning his hand over and assuming it's the winner against something like 1010 or JJ. Wes is playing entirely on feel and intuition, with some classic gambler tendency to want action. This GTO merged range word salad is not something that applies to him.
@ozrenbalic6051
@ozrenbalic6051 2 года назад
Why would he think that Tiger can't have a 6? Tiger is playing from the third blind (UTG straddle). He has more sixes and more two pairs on that board than he would from any other position. Like many of Wesley's bets this one was poorly thought out. Not only because the third blind likely has him beat on this board, but also because even if he is ahead, he is giving Tiger a chance to check-raise bluff him on the river and put him in a very difficult spot.
@ozrenbalic6051
@ozrenbalic6051 2 года назад
@@jakecooper5855 the fact that Wesley genuinely thinks that this is a good spot to overbet the pot for value, with KK, against a third blind who just flatted preflop, shows that he has no understanding of the game at all.

@@liambarron9772 I disagree with this but I get your point. There’s a certain type of success that people share beyond fundamental understanding. I’m just saying there’s probably a general view that Wesley is some rich Dan blizarian, when he is really a thinking player. He might be a novice vs a grandmaster but the fact he can play at this level with a few months learning the game has merit on its own. Also, when he discusses strategy, it shows he understand a decent surface level of the game. Sure it might not be on the solver level of combo draws and ev of ranges but I think his success in accumulating wealth in crypto will push him towards success in poker as well. Success in one field generally has characteristics that leak into other areas.
