Loved the documentary.. Me being an Indian figured I tend to think mostly in the eastern way..

I've just created another word which is subindividualistic because I believe an indiviual can be broken down further. For example each human being has a right side and a left side of the brain with each defining only a fraction of the particular individual person. This goes with objects and ideas as well with the necessary explanations required to explain this phenomenon.

Keiji Nishitani summed it up "A is A, because A is not A". If you see the world in terms of change and relationality, it leads to very different understandings of the self, objects, and the world.

I liked the documentary but i feel it's a bit biased. Those tests never get clear cut results like it is shown here. I made my thesis on the history of perspective and depth perception in art. Perespective was understood in only some cultures. It's normal that somewhere else you get concepts as retroperspective as they call it. Also not fair to compare an old art piece from korea and the works of DaVinci that was born right on time when perspective was understood almost perfectly. Again nice documentary, but someone's got to be careful before falling into stereotyping for no reason

The USA mainly attracted individual migration, whereas in history [Europe/Asia] it was usually tribal (community) migrations.

I did not have a choice of breakfast but I had four brothers and a sister. I think there are advantages and disadvantages both cultures. I was s born and raised in NYC. I have aspects of both eastern and western cultures. It may be because I was raised in a large family and also because NYC has a diverse population. I like the framing of the topic. AND not VERSUS.

We need to use "WE" more & less "I".
@zhaofu2550
@zhaofu2550 3 года назад
I am from China and living in Finland. I feel this a lot from my experience. When Chinese people talk, people normally use WE a lot in the chatting and seem to avoid using I, I feel they would feel too self-centered when talk much "I". Whereas when study and work in Finland, I feel I have been encouraged to say "I" a lot, personal opinions are more appreciated and very few chance to say "WE". When I chat with Chinese friends, and tried to use lots of "I", or asked them do you personally think, it was easy to get rejecting reaction.

I think the "Western" perspective presented is somewhat skewed towards Anlo-American culture. Also, with more education and exposure to new ideas, the western perspective becomes less rigid.

In the West, we see Economics as 'Laws of Nature' [bogus].
@OffGridInvestor
@OffGridInvestor 4 года назад
Economics is a created system and once you understand the money creation process, you see what a scam/sham the entire system is. Its created by people who have zero productivity off the backs of the productivity of others, and holding the productive people to ransom. The common misunderstanding is that you borrow money from banks who got their money from depositors. But that's such A HUGE LIE that once you actually understand "fractional reserve banking" you see it for the scam it is.

I think you are generalizing here and not taking into account individuals. While I agree with you that many Westerners think this way, I also see exactly the same thing in Easterners too. It is called tribalism and is something that all cultures share. I certainly do not experience an openess to new ideas in much of Eastern culture, if anything it seems more keen on holding onto traditions and suspicious of outsiders.
@Magnulus76

"Suspicion of outsiders" is true of every culture, just not apparent to you because you are an insider in your own culture.

It shows some interesting studies but no clear total numbers and backgrounds. Overall, without considering a lot of historical and current political factors, it’s an overly simplistic program about both sides. Nice try, however.

People in East Asian are treated like robots, as individualism seems to be totally disregarded there; while people in the Western world are free to follow their own path. I strongly prefer to live the latter, less tyrannical way of life - thank you very much - because I want to be free than be treated like a mindlessly obedient robot!

This is a very negative way to view it. Easterner care about the collective/others more. They don’t try to just bulldoze their way through life disregarding others. I think a middle ground is a best way to be here. Western thoughts seem way too selfish which also causes issues. I come from a background that is both east and west so I typically understand the world very differently. No side is superior

Just look at how we live. West social welfare, Unemployment Benefits, take care of our old and sick. East... Corruption, Poverty, Why do i even bother.... Just look at cold war West and East Europe. Berlin Wall!... Its not that simple as this video makes it out to be.

We take care of immediate families and relationships, so of course our government tends to be "corrupt" because those in power will look after their families and friends. It's all about the connections and the people you know, not how well you can play the system. We don't try to be systematic with our "charity" and give to people who have nothing to do with us.
