The only thing the police are cracking down on is getting money for themselves. The only arrests, ever are for the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act. Only if they purchase unauthorized VOIP call minutes from international markets, costing the Indian government a substantial amount of money. Scammers who use VOIP based in India are left alone. Scamming, in itself, is rarely ever prosecuted.

Actually, according to a former scammer, the call centers pay off the Indian police to be left alone. Only if they don't pay off the police do the police raid their call centre.

I get multiple scam calls every day on my cell phone. People that I know, who end up talking on a legit help line, just hang up as soon as they hear the Indian accent. Sadly, it is doing some real damage to India's reputation around the world.... I hate to think how it will play out when enough people around the world only associate India with scammers. I love India personally. I have spent a year traveling through your country, and yearn to return some day. I love the epic story Maha Bharata, Ramayana, along with wonderful folk songs and poetry, what to speak of the great philosophers like Ramana Maharshi, or J Krishna Murti, and the Buddha himself. But is is up to India to put an end to this, somehow, some way.... the hate and resentment will eventually build to a breaking point.... everybody I know continues to receive these calls to the point where we can no longer answer our phones without fearing our number will then get sold to a hundred more scammers... I've already missed important calls because of this. I am hoping India's political determination to end scamming can emerge in time..... before India's reputation as a country and culture is too badly damaged.

I hope it isn't just a "matter of time" where the South joins in. There are good and bad everywhere in India, as well as the rest of the world, I wouldn't ever suggest that the North is full of bad people, and the South is only "good" people... everywhere in the world, people will try to find a shortcut, to make ends meet to feed their family, damn everyone else.

@@sammic974 The North West was pretty bad & one of the worst areas but that has now changed & improved so it's simply a slow process where common sense is needed. I'm fine. I live alone & don't visit anyone nor have visitors, so I'm pretty much isolated even though I don't need to be quarantined. Stay safe.
