** I have no idea what happened to the caption at the beginning, the first station is Manchester Airport, not Piccadilly. I'm not reuploading the video just for this so just pretend it's correct **
Although the speeds in this video have been checked for accuracy, they are for guidance only and drivers should always use official documentation to ensure they are aware of all line speeds.
This is Part 1 of this three part video which takes us from Manchester Aiport to Preston, through the heart of Manchester and the delightful Lancashire countryside.
Part 2 will see us through to Carlisle, with a beautiful scenic run through the Lake District and will be coming soon.

At first I thought the caption at the start was to indicate what your first station stop will be, then i read your video description. Have used this line many times over the years, nice to see the driver's view for a change. Great video .💯

@09weenic

@schwarzalben88
@schwarzalben88 5 лет назад
09weenic I don’t know what the answer is, it reminds me of the diagrams of the original Ludgate Hill Station platforms. It was of course never designed to be used by the number of trains now using it. When I was a Regional Railways Conductor at Sheffield in the early 90’s we had one job which was a Cleethorpes Liverpool Express and the return working,we worked always from Sheffield to Oxford Road and return we never relieved or got relieved at Manchester Piccadilly. Perhaps Manchester Mayfield might be the answer.

I'm trying to understand British rail terminology. I've learned that up/down are terms used to describe heading towards (up) or away (down) from a major station. So where I'm confused is that you're calling a line the Down Bolton both heading towards and away from the station. In this video, shouldn't the line before reaching the station be called the Up Bolton and then after passing the station the Down Bolton or am I missing something? Great video by the way, really enjoyed it!
@kfae8959
@kfae8959 4 года назад
Sean - the people of Bolton will be delighted to know that you consider it a major city. They may even invite you to invest in their association football team. The city in question is Manchester. We're on the down line passing Bolton on the way to the east coast main line at Wigan.
@seanlayer4409
@seanlayer4409 4 года назад
@@kfae8959 Ah okay I see. It's just confusing when the video text is showing "Down Bolton". Wouldn't the correct terminology be "Down Manchester" then? Thanks for the response!
@kfae8959
@kfae8959 4 года назад
That would't be specific. Lines run into and out of Manchester from all directions, and into three stations, all of which enjoy through and terminating services. You may see the point after leaving Oxford Road in this video when we are briefly on the Chat Moss line (the one towards Liverpool via Warrington) before returning to the Bolton? The captions are specifying which line we are on.

@beneliastrains
@beneliastrains 5 лет назад
I asked my local managers, who asked me to ask the head of ops, who asked me to ask my local managers. The local managers then gave me a list of conditions. I don't need anyone in the cab no, I just stick it on the windscreen and hit record. The company have to have access to the videos if they require them and if any incident takes place during filming the footage is not to be used. That's basically it with a few other little conditions.

Is it standard practice at Manchester Piccadilly to have about 17 persons between the travellers and the train when this (or any other) train arrives? Also the use of a flyover is not really used on this line from Manchester Airport to Edinburgh. Despite this a good video and the rain?! That is part of life. You can not let the train wait anywhere for the rain to disappear and only than to continue!
@tonyp011
@tonyp011 4 года назад
you can hold a train if the weather is far to heavy that the wipers cannot cope as ive heard of trains being held because the rain had been that heavy drivers were reporting poor visibility and that the wipers weren't coping, also a train can be held up at a station or even where there is no station where rain as flooded a line and the water as covered the top of the rails, and you cannot say this is untrue as this as also happened, otherwise health and safety would have a lot to say if there was an accident due to a train being allowed to move in these torrential conditions
