Thank you for great DIY! We actually just got our harmony couch on Friday and I noticed the back pillow cushions were not holding their shape. I did this DIY project and my pillows now are so much better ! I was able to add filling for all three sections in the pillow. Now, I don’t have to worry about fluffing them up anymore and they are much firmer and comfortable. Thank you !

TFS...I have a microfiber couch and love seat and washed and added extra stuffing a year ago. I did the same test with throw pillows too. You are right it is hard to get the cushions back in. Great job!

I just bought one off of offer up , it was very dirty but thought I would try and wash the cushion covers to see what would happen, Well I have to say The covers came out looking Brand New . I am over the top HAPPY ! Thanks for the little push My back pillows don't have feathers they have some kind of a cotton fill VERY SOFT . But I will be using mine in my office / Guest room . I'm sure it last for years and it is very comfortable Thanks

We bought this couch on consignment and I like that the whole couch is washable. I throw my pillows in the dryer and they double in size.

Thanks for the review! I am so torn! This couch has been in my cart for about a month now! So afraid to commit with the fear of being disappointed with the mixed reviews. I want it for the softness, but I am not a fan of how the cushions look before you added the stuffing. And I agree, that's too much money to have to make any modifications!

I totally agree. The sofa looks great on the website, but I think for several thousand dollars, no one should have to make adjustments after a year to 18 months. I am on the fence as well. But I see she is very pleased with her purchase.

It’s such a hard decision to make! I do wish it didn’t need any adjustments after just a year & 1/2, but it’s very comfy! The back cushions are a little disappointing. But I also love the look of the sofa. Such a tough call!

One other issue I have with this sofa is the down feathers came put of their casing so I can't remover any covers without losing tons of feathers. :(

I have this couch in some light grey performance velvet fabric. I’ve had the same issue with the cushions and did the same thing and it’s definitely helped!

I pushed it up against the back of the counter, off to the righthand side. It fits there but it isn't my favorite. I already rearranged it back to the old way haha

I have this couch with the linen fabric. I have rotated and fluffed my pillows once a week on house-cleaning day, have had this couch for 3 years and it looks as good as new. (incidentally i was told to do this when i bought the couch)

It's not unfortunate to have down, you just need a foam insert in the center to help keep the form!!

@@Riogrande1964 how did you get a refund?? I’m a few hours from a store, but might try calling. Mine is so hard, flat, and uncomfortable unlike the store sofa. It was like this from the 1st week. I’ve had it 2 months now and it’s so bad.

Hi, you say they are down, but on the website, West Elm were asked and replied with the following, any clue if this is what yours was? What are the lumbar and throw pillows stuffed with? Leigh M The lumbar and side pillows have the same filling as the back cushions (50% polyester fiber, 45% duck feather and 5% duck down in down-proof ticking). a west elm associate on Sep 14, 2018

I've been so scared to wash the fabric because it does say on the label not to wash only professionally clean but I might try because my couches are not looking bright white. I might just do the pillow as a test run. Wish me luck!

I purchased the Harmony 2 piece sectional from a West Elm outlet at an awesome price. I loved the couch but like you, hate how the back pillows constantly need to be fluffed up. It doesn’t help my Corgi walks all across the back and sleeps on top of the pillows! Lol But thank you for this idea...def going to consider trying this!

Hey! I just got this couch, I love the look, but I’m having trouble with the bottom cushions, they seem to really be sinking in. Have you had this issue? I’m wondering if I should firm them up, have you stuffed them or done anything to them?

I haven't had that issue! Mine in fact were overly firm when I first got it! A couple of others have commented that they did have that issue of the sinking pillows! Maybe contact west elm? Wishing you the best of luck!

Thank you for your review and tip on washing the covers. I just got this couch and the bottom cushions are so uncomfortable and dip in the middle. Did your couch require breaking in to be comfortable?

Hi, thanks for watching!! My cushions were pretty soft from the get go. There is a little bit of a dip in between the cushions though so I try to change them around about once a week to keep it from getting worse. I've heard people say theirs needed some breaking in, so I wonder if there is some inconsistency when it comes to that... I hope it works out for you!!

i have this couch....and had cushions that didn't match one firm/one i sank to the bottom....then sent me 2 new inserts. just reach out to the store. Also...they made me turn and fluff them first before replacing.

It looks great. Sold me on adding more stuffing to the back pillows.Going to try washing one of the small throw pillow covers and see how it goes. I’m cautious because its heather weave in cayenne but I gotta do something i have splotches from spills etc.

@@ladymystique453 It held up great and I have actually done it a couple additional times because toddler life lol. But I will say the fabric on the seat cushion seems to be pilling slightly not terrible. So I wouldn't make a habit of it. Also it seems to attract hair. I don't know if it is my imagination but I find myself lint rolling and pulling hair (mostly cat hair). I think it worth doing if you have some unsightly spots but wouldn't make a habit of it.

Use a shaver or even a razor you’d shave your legs with to get rid of the pilling. Feathers and stuffing can be super expensive so think about checking out your local thrift stores for couch cushions and down pillows. They’re super cheap and work just as good if not better. Lastly, I’m always seeing these little handheld sewing thingies. They make quick work of gems and little jobs like this.

WOW!😲 That's terrible. But if you dont have enough down it will flatten a lot. Like my throw pillows I get a bigger insert and the down keeps the shape. But that was a good idea you had. Looks good.

Hi! I have a very similar West Elm sofa. Got it a year ago. The back cushions have the same problem! I re-stuffed per your advice…way better! The fabric on my sofa looks just like yours but it’s called coastal linen and they just told me it’s not washable. Ugh! I think I might wash them anyway. I have kids and they look dingy! What do you think?

I agonized for quite a while as well 😂 I ended up getting the standard depth. Sometimes I wish I’d gotten the deep version but I don’t have the space. The standard has more than enough room though. Good luck with your decision making!!

Great video. My big furniture splurge was 15 years ago from Room & Board. I’m looking to do several new purchases and a Harmony sectional is a contender. As great as it looks, I’m really discouraged by the sinking pillows and in truth I’m more worried about what happens to the bottom cushions even more. None of my current down sofas or chairs do this even after 15 years but they’re down wrapped over a core, not all down. Is this the way all the new “cloud” sofas behave? Anyone have experience with down cloud cushions from other brands?

I don't know much about the cloud sofas but from pictures I've seen they seem to sink even worse. A "core" would be so great for a sofa like this, I wish West Elm had integrated that into the back pillows!

@@KatieDickens It appears the standard and deep versions of the sofa include an additional set of back bolster pillows (not the petite version). Did yours include those or is that something new?

Don't buy west elm. I had to get this sofa after they recalled my Peggy sofa from them. The Peggy had cushions that slipped off and buttons popped off left and right. This harmony of mine has down feathers loose inside the cushions so I can't even remove the covers without having to restuff and sew shut

Their website says it will fit through almost doors less then 30” if you turn it on it’s side to get through a door the measurements from legs to top of back of sofa is 28” and the legs also come off

This comes in a sectional sleeper for almost $4,000 at west elm. I’m still contemplating. The couch and sectional is stunning. BUT With all the research I’ve done, that’s my primary concern : The back cushions and the peeling. Almost every review, the quality of the back cushions seems to deteriorate quite quickly.

I simply stuffed another pillow in the back pillow. Don’t cut your pillows! 😮 buy another down pillow or I used the other cushions since it came with so many pillows.

Honestly I’ve had my west elm harmony sofa. We have the 82”x 42” and I’d prolly never buy another one haha. The two cushion design we ended up hating. The bottom cushions also kind of suck and provide zero real comfort. I literally just went and got a 70x35x6” piece of high density firm foam cut. I’m going to use a slip cover and changed the two cushion design into basically a bed. Had all the pillow inserts swapped for high density foam as well. Because they all suck lol. I own the marble and wood lift ale coffee table and love it. I wouldn’t ever buy a couch or chair to sit in from them however. After this we’ll ditch the whole couch and get a large comfortable sectional. Good luck everyone out there.

I have the harmony sectional and I use down pillows in my daily life all throughout my home. I wouldn't recommend opening the pillows and adding polyester fill.... Every couple months I fluff all of my pillows in the dryer for 30 minutes on the lowest heat setting. Alot of the time the feathers mat up over time due to sweat and humidity. Putting them in the dryer dries the feathers out and they separate from each other. I find that down and feather pillows last a lot longer than polyester fill which will also mat due to sweat and humidity but not be able to be refluffed....

1. Your hair is getting super long.. 2. I would’ve cut on a seam, so re-sewing doesn’t look so obvious. (I know, by the time this is published, the deed is already done). 3. Do you have a fabric shaver? I used it to clean the corners of my couch that the kitty-monster has destroyed. It worked wonders! And got a lot closer than a scissors could have.

Honestly it’s better to purchase your couch from Ashley Homestore or Raymond’s because you wouldn’t experience that issue. I had my couch for 10 years and it’s still comfy and the cushions didn’t get flat. Plus I had kids jumping on my couch and lots of family members sit on it
