Andreas Brehme, genius, we will remember you forever, world champion, that Argentina guy that day did not even give him a scoring opportunity to deserve something.
YES! Thanks to @ VintageFootballHighlights the obvious dive and non free kick to Germany can be seen in glorious 4K! Frame by frame! Oh what a magnificant swan dive and reaction from the "non-partisan" fifa sanctioned mafia-paid Italian ref. Did i mention that the ref was from the host country that was suppose to be playing in this game but was knocked out by one of the teams in this game? And that FIFA was not happy AT ALL about it? The same FIFA who in 2015 was found to be drowning in decades old corruption.
@@richardwallace5226 LOL the game was fixed, the MAFIA played a massive role in allowing germany to win. The ref was Italian FFS., and we know it was fixed from the evidence. Just like in 1978 FIFA was perfectly OK to allow argentina to fix the game against Peru. Or in 2002 and all the other world cups where the result was alwready predetermined before the toruney kicked off.
@@glencoe1266 Glen, I agree with you 100% that the penalty kick was a DIVE. But as far as what you say about the referee, you have your facts way wrong. The referee is Mexican, his name is Codesal. He is not Italian. Still, the ref made a very bad call.
@Michael Russel Yes I agree with you. The replica market back than was minuscule in those times, but it would explode very fast into the 1990s with clubs like Manchester Utd seeing the opportunity of having multiple kits. Kit manufacturers started to come out with some awfully designed kits. Oversized baggy shirts with just the worst graphic designs you’d seen. This West German kit along with that Dutch kit in 1988 were the first to start having in these graphic designs. In those days I lived in London & it very hard to buy international shirts of other nations. You had to go into the heart of London to Soccer Scene a ship that specialised in foreign shirts to buy something like this.
One of the very best German teams - Imagine these are your players: Illgner, Brehme, Kohler, Augenthaler, Buchwald, Berthold, Häßler, Matthäus, Littbarski, Völler, Klinsmann, and your manager is Beckenbauer. Just look at the midfield players (Häßler, Matthäus, Littbarski) and it would tell you the entire story about the quality of the team.

Wonderfull Memories..I was 10 Years Old and i was born in East Germany. This was our first holidays in Freedom and we stay in Italy at this Time and watched with Germans and Italians together..Like Public Viewing on a very small Television :p
I am Italian and that was the most spectacular World Cup (the music, the atmosphere and the teams) Italy was only third but I think Germany deserved it. It's a bit sad because you always want to win at home 🤣. P.s. It happened the opposite in Germany 2006. Germany third at home, beated in semifinals and Italy won.
@@erdebbo That Italian team of 2006 was one of the best ever, was in unbeatable form, full of confidence and composure. They were such a delight to watch, respect from a German team fan from India.❤️
First WC final with two teams who had contested it together before (in the previous final in fact); first final with fewer than three goals; first final with one team failing to score; first final with sendings off. It was a dreadful match. Argentina were shameful.
I was 19. BBC feed in Montreal by the BBC commentators. All I heard was how undeserving this German team was. Sure it was a lousy game with too many dives but at the end of the day Germany played a great tournament and Argentina was too defensive minded. Drove down boul St. Laurent in my bro's Scirroco waving the german flag after the game. Great great memories!!🇩🇪🇩🇪🇨🇦🇨🇦
it was this type of game because of argentina though, they were just destroyers and hoped for another hand of god moment from an aging Maradonna who was completely overmatched with the excellent german midfield and defense that shut him down completely.
The first Football tournament I watched....back then with a phenomenal Seria A, Diego Maradonna, Italy with legendary players, England loosing as usual....
@@Spacebrain369 not at all. It was what the argentinian squad deserved. After all, they became Champions on Mexico '86 because of Maradona cheating. Karma took Italy 1990 on them!! 😂😂😂🤘🏼
The first world cup I experienced was USA 1994 and enjoyed the final Italia vs Brazil like crazy. But still it is interesting to watch this game, I was 5 back in 1990 but since my country didn't participate (México) so I don't remember too much since mexican people was not paying much attention to it for obvious reasons.
Argentinean here.. i was 13 years old back then. Germany before hand looked favorite as we made our way till the final with a lot of luck. That argentinean team was a transitional one. Some old remnants of 86 with some new names like Canniggia but nothing more. Without Canniggia in the final match we knew it was close to impossible. Maradona was severely injured the whole cup . Anyway once the match started we didnt do much. The team was not optimal. Anyway germany deserved to win that world cup. Clearly best team in the tournament. What hurt the most back then was watching the italians booing our national anthem. Till this day, even with our huge italian heritage we still dont like them for that.
I was only 5 when I wantched this and couldn't remember how dominant Germany was in this game, literally no shots on target from Argentina and about a dozen against them. Impressed, I would have thought Maradona would have done the difference but as per what I read he wasn't much of an impact in that World Cup?
It looks like all teams dominated against Argentina throughout the tournament but It's just their play style and Argentina always came out the winner. Ever since they discovered Goychoechea, best goalie of that worldcup. However the finals was a very different story: Argentina lost 5 key players due to injuries and red card while Maradona's ankles were shattered into pieces. Yet Germany was only able to beat Argentina with a "gift" penalty and 2 red cards.FIFA needed to celebrate the fall of the Berlin Wall that year. The strongest team in the whole tournament I must say was the hometeam Italy (which lost to Argentina). There was not that much of a gap between teams back then, everybody had their chance to win that worldcup: Argentina, Belgium, USSR, Czech Republic, Yugoslavia, Brazil, Netherland to name a few with their own legendary players. Even Cameroon was very strong as well, they beat Argentina in the opening game, Colombia in the round of 16 and were close to beating England in the quarter finals.
No cobró nada.

The 1986 and 1990 WC finals had the same finalists, Argentina and Germany. In 86 Argentina won it, and in 90 Germany won it. Argentina would face Germany in a WC final again in 2014 and they would lose, and coincidentally just like 1990 Argentina lost to Germany while they were in their away kits.

The controversial referee is seen here after many years who took his retirement immediately after the final 1990 FIFA played between Argentina and Germany( at that time West Germany). Edgardo Codessal Mandez who still the aged men remember today as the most controversial referee ever in football history.

I was hoping for Italy to play in the final. This was probably one of the worst finals I have ever seen. Absolutely one sided with Germany unable to convert on so many chances. Ultimately it had to be the penalty to make them win as the whole tournament was penalty driven. Disgusting game.

I'm from Argentina, how the hell we made it to the final with such a terrible team is one of life's mysteries xp. Germany was a fair winner. Brehme, Klinsmann, Völler, Matthäus, they had an excellent team. btw: Great video quality.
Your Goalkeeper Goichochea (sorry about the spelling) was one of the reason I think. He was brilliant in the penalty shootouts. Also you had Maradona 👍
You had a great team on paper but you just performed badly. Your GK was great in the shootouts and Brazil didn't take their chances in the round of 16.
Before the game I was very confident that Germany would win easily. They were the best team in the competition and Argentina was very lucky in all of their knockout games. However, there was the threat of a penalty shootout and the true MVP of Argentina wasn't Maradona but their crazy goalkeeper Sergio Goycochea. That was his summer and he saved Argentina against Brazil and in the penalty shootouts against Yugoslavia and Italy. When Germany still hadn't scored deep into the second half I got nervous. Will the Goycochea magic again lead to Argentina clawing its way to victory? Now, when Brehme scroed thx to that questionable penatly I was very relaxed immediately. The way Argentina was playing they could have played for another 3 days and they wouldn't have scored a goal. At the time I thought that Argentina didn't even deserve to be in the final. Today, I would say that it was very impressive, how they found a way to victory against stronger teams again and again.
@@ligodosabolo9207 This is completely an excuse for not being as skilled and losing. Argentina is completely ineffective and has a threatening attacking ability. If the team is injured, they can still play normally. Therefore, saying that half of the Argentine players are injured is a denial of the loss. Despite Germany being injured and being injured by the Argentine team many times during the game, Germany still relies on persistence and skill to win. Are you not satisfied? 🥱 And Argentina can't do it because they don't have the strength. 86 World Cup, Argentina's fluke is because the referee was bribed and the game was controlled by Deigo Maradona's ties to the underworld, the Hand of God being an example.
