So unfortunate to not qualify Northern Ireland. Germany must have hated the sight of them. As a Scot I salute them for beating Germany twice in this group. Oh in 1983 I had my first teenage romance and heartbreak with a girl from Karlsruhe, Katherine Enneking. I wonder where she is now. I'd love to back in time to those days. Simpler and better times.

I really enjoy watching these videos .. I only wish if every video included all matches in the group instead of only 6 or 8 matches for one specific team .. Maybe a separate video for Austria matches can be another option .. During these qualifications campaign Austria did very well in their first 5 matches as they won 4 and drew 1 and topped the group .. then during the fourth quarter of 1983 they lost their last 3 matches against west Germany , Turkey and northern Ireland and finished third in the group .. It was the end of the golden generation of Hanz Krankl , Walter Schachner , Herbert Prohaska , Heribert Weber , Ernst Baumeister and Bruno Pezzey ..
