Really good info; I normally wear 9.5; I bought a pair of Tecovas at 9: heel slippage but comfortable otherwise; went to an 8.5: too tight in the toe, but heel was solid...going back to a 9...thank you for the great advice
Perfect, concise video. I love really snug shoes and was devastated when i put on my new Tecovas Dean boots and the toes and top were fine but I experienced heel slippage which I didn’t like. Now I know this is a perfect fit for me. Thank you sir.

Great explanation! You would probably yell at me if this was in person but ... I just bought my first real pair of boots online cus I'm in Buffalo. Not much of a market here for nice boots. I ordered my average size and when they got here I was worried that they might be too big. But based on your explanation, they fit perfectly. I'll stop buy your store when in town. Yay thanks. My heel was slipping and i thought the salesman told me wrong and sold me boots that were too big. I actually put an insole in them and that helped tremendously.
Very helpful and informative video for those of us that haven't been used to wearing any pull up boots. I just bought a pair last week and it's the first pair I've bought in 28 years and I've added extra padded insoles to them and got a more snug fit in the fore foot of the boot and the heel slips comfortably about an inch or less for now but they are a very different feel than wearing lace up boots or shoes but their very comfortable from the outset so far.
Well done Greg! I've noticed that baby buffalo calf is so much more flexible & soft, that the instep isn't as snug as compared to other hides in the same boot & size. What are your thoughts on that?

Q- I bought a pair of 'custom' boots. the instep felt a wee bit loose, there was no sound when trying them on, and I felt too much , more than an inch heel slip. - are boot makers able to make the boot fit better ? - I brought them back - they said they could re-work them " raise the arch area' - I have paid for them . suggestions ? ~ JDS/CT
Boots i bought are from John Varvatos brand, which are more Narrow at toes. I have duck feet (lol) so i always have to buy boots from them that are half size too big [i LOVE the style of John Varvatos boots so not going to *Not buy because of the style they are]. So my question is if i dont have much heel slip but i have a 3/4th of inch to full inch from biggest toe to end (have to cause my feet are wide) is this acceptable? (To have that much length from toe to end of boot) ~if i bought the boot that gives the classic HALF of Inch toe space then my toes would not be able to lay naturally
That seems like a lot of heel slip, and the most I've heard out of all the research I've done because my boots don't fit. The most common that I've heard is 1/4" to 1/2"
I got a pair of 1000 dollar boots that I got for a good deal I collect cowboy boots and got lots of heal slippage but my little toe on the one foot is getting crushed so I have to get the sides stretched they can go up to a full size on the width that is the only prob hopefully I can get them to loosen up
I want a pull-on pair of boots for snow and occasional heavy work, but I can't ever seem to get them on my damn foot. Every time I finally find a good pair and try them on, it seems My ankles are too big around to actually sink down in the bend of the boots. If I force them on, they're nearly impossible to get off. And I know I'm looking for the right size...every pair I try on is the same: the shaft has room to breathe around my calf muscle and shin, and the toe is definitely roomy, but I feel like the bottom of the shaft around my ankle is skin-tight and I can't walk in them. Do I need to just look for a pair made wide-calf, even though I don't have a wide calf? I don't know what to do. Size 14EE
The guy at the boot store said if the back of oyur foot moves more then a 1/4 inch then you need a smaller size, if i went any smaller i wouldnt be able to fit lol
