Westlers Tinned Burgers 

In the 70s early 80s My aunt had an outside catering business, I remember she had a contract for Thruxton and Prescott race circuits and sold hundreds of these... Thanks for rekindling my childhood memories...

The original Wrestler hamburgers were made in Malton, Yorkshire. With gravy or without. Like you say Stocky they were mainly sold at football matches cooked in hot water or at fairs fried on a hot plate. I remember the Arden Arms in Bredbury serving them at lunch on an oven bottom muffin with plenty of fried onions and chips like you did and they were GREAT! However that was many years ago, Wrestler's were sold and like many other British company's production was moved to Europe, in this case Holland and obviously the original recipe was lost or ignored. I gave the dog a Wrestler's hot dog which I couldn't eat recently and he buried it in the garden! 😮

In my view these burgers are fucking stunning. Nice brioche bun deeply toasted, burgers straight from tin into bun (best cold) nice dollop of mustard and crumble a baby bell on top. Absolutely stunning bait after a few sherbets.

not bad on a cold day at the footy or elswhere my mother in law had a burger van and always sold westlers with boiled onions but she sold out every time!!! great video Greg

How long did you boil the chips fir greg before putting them in the fryer

I thought the burgers were going to be dry without gravy like those sold in the pound burger bar in Blackpool but seeing that mess it was a good recommendation to go straight out for a curry. The chips looked nice though. Talking of curries and the old days. Do you remember or did you ever go to the Manzil on Stockport Rd or the Hilal on Wilmslow Rd Handforth? Both have been closed for many years but they were excellent in the day. The taste of the food was amazing and the cost was never more than £10-00 for a starter, main, side and roti. Are yes.....those were the days.

Ha Ha , I was screaming at the Tv to try and stop you eating them. Commonly known as Dog Food Burgerrs in my House.

I like these burgers but i wash off the gravy and dry them, put a piece of process cheese on top and cook in microwave and put on a bun with onions. These were the burgers you remember Westlers served at football or down the fair when it came to town and were originally boiled! I used to buy a tin of 48 for my take away shop 20 odd years ago for around £4 from cash and carry.

Wrestlers sold the "dodgy" hot dogs & "hamburgers" from carts in the late 60's...your right !

I vaguely remember eating them at least once as a child and they were ok from memory but like lots of other things, they probably don't taste like the used to. I wonder if they sell them here!!! back in the day late 80's early 90's they were very nice, not a lot of taste in them now but i get them now and again i put them on the shopping list as "slimy burgers" haha in a bun with a cheese slice ans a splash of red sauce.

Once saw the Wesler hamburger cart tipped over and the seller just scooped them back into the cart and continued on selling them 😀

I can remember having tin burgers in gravy when I was young. I think they were by Goblin and I used to like them. Also tin meatballs in gravy. Think I'd spew if I got them now though lol

They didn't look fantastic Greg. But I still have an urge just to see what this flavour from the 70s that you talked about is like. I asked my dad about the 'boiled burgers' outside of football grounds, and he remembers them as well. I've never been in Heron foods, so I'll go and find some from that one on Edgeley. Did look bad mate, ha ha. do you remember the minute steak sandwiches they used to do in all the pubs back in the 80s. Used to love them with a pint at dinnertime from work (back then it was allowed,🤣🤣). Found some recently and they were bloody awful.

then burger karts did use westlers burgers in catering tins , i used to see them in cash and carry ,ive always wondered what sort of meat is in them ,lol ive got a friend whos husband lives on them takes them to work heats them up in tin over pan of water ,whilst on nights security work ,not for me ,

I found the burgers to be okay. However, the onion gravy was a bit naff. I found, if you put a dollop of tomato sauce in it, the sauce is a whole lot better. Going to try some curry powder with the next ones.

They're better heated up in a pan. Microwave was terrible, when I did them.

I get a bad stomach eating frozen food it has to be fresh or relatively fresh that's why my diet is a lot of veg now
