Radiusing and carving the guitar body and glueing up the neck for the Westone Pantera X390 Tribute Guitar Build.
In the 9th episode in this guitar building series I'm radiusing the guitar body, using a jig I purposely made for this, before I can start the body carve.
To finalize the carve and neck joint I have to first make some cover plates glue in the neck and drill the holes for the output jack.

😳😳…a real heart-in-the-mouth moment - but I’m certain a little chisel work.could remedy the mishap! I love your videos, the guitars and your workshop too! Cheers Daniel! 🥰🥰🍷🍷🎸🎸

Looking great Daniel - clever use of the router to get the body curves👍🏼

The router accident probably happened at the best time. I had to scrap an almost completed neck because of a bearing. Very nice work as always!

It looks like it's going to be very ergonomic and comfortable to play. It's probably quite an iconic model for some people, so I wouldn't be surprised if you're asked to build more once when they see it completed.

Hey I've been really enjoying this whole series on your Pantera build. The jig you made for producing the curvature on your guitar body was quite ingenious! Keep up the good work and as always, thank you so much for uploading! I'm learning a LOT from you!

To make it easier to position and hold your body in place once the top is rounded over, I find it very usefull to create lower version copies of the hollow guide rails, place these on the bottom of your jig with tape and superglue. Essentially you create a cradle with the perfect radius on which you place your body. Takes out a lot of measuring 👍🏻

Loving this build, the design is completely modern and totally classic all at once. I'm especially fond of the subtle body arch--too much more would've been excessive, I think.

I'm working on plans for a bass body with a curve/concave like this, just like a Spector ...and yes, it's a real mind-f*** with regards to jigs, cavities, rond-overs and what not Judging from your results, I'm on the right path

Every single video is a true journey full of awesomeness. The way you carved the body; the method, tools... That's genius! You are doing a SUPERB job. That's the true guitar of my dreams. Thank you very much for sharing all this process. This videos make me disconnect from my mental issues. I trully apprecieate your passion and generosity Daniel! Cheers, Master!

Looking good. I really like the jig. Could possibly have many other uses. Pretty much anything that needs flattening or radiusing, Should be just long enough to do a fretboard. I may have to build one.

Really enjoy watching you make guitars. This build has been really interesting to me with the special jig you made to do the convex and concave carve of the body. I have not tried to do a build like this. May have to try to duplicate your jig though, hope you don't mind. I have been doing a lot of builds with either flame or quilted maple over either genuine mahogany or black walnut. Great videos!!!

Speaking as one guitar builder to another, this is a very good job. Very clean work. But I'm not sure I'd recommend having a neck joint that's THAT tight in the body. I'd be concerned about possibly wedging the body too much resulting in a crack. To my way of thinking, the neck only needs to be a tight enough fit that it holds in place from friction, and doesn't need to be any tighter fit than that.

There's gotta be a way to do the roundover with machinery, they certainly didn't mass produce them by hand, so they had a devoted machine/shaper for it. i'm trying to picture it in my head!
@UnquendorGuitars
@UnquendorGuitars Год назад
Hi B. Scott, I think if I had acces to a shaper and was brave enough to use it. You could do the round over with it. Also a CNC machine could get the round over very close. Maybe the complicated body shape and the round over is the reason this guitar model was never 'mass' produced. The factory only made 96 Pantera models.

@@UnquendorGuitars Growing up in New York and Long Island, I had access to every guitar that came through here, and I have seen a couple Westone Panteras. I had a chance to get one but was worried about the trem being a Kahler type trem, I was turned off. But, yes I would love the body style, saw Trevor Rabin with one, and I was hooked. Maybe one day. Or better yet, maybe I'll one day build a tribute using your vids as my perfect guide. Thank you

How did you keep the glue line between the top and the body wood from causing you issues? Ive had issues with the glue line showing between the top and the body wood on a couple of builds and would appreciate any advice you have on the subject! Love your work brother! Peace

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU WOULDN'T MAKE AN ADJUSTABLE BASE PLATFORM FOR THE BODY RATHER THAN MAKE SUCH A THICK BODY. THIS WAY, BETWEEN THE ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT PLATFORM FOR A BODY TO BE CARVED ALONG WITH A PLUNGE ROUTER, YOUR ABILITY AND CHOICE TO CARVE DIFFERENT THICKNESS BODIES WOULD BE GREATLY ENHANCED. BEAUTIFUL BODY JUST THE SAME!
