Westward - Idents - Startup Film - TSW - ITV 

These start up films are an amazing piece of UK television history the like of which we shall never see again. Miss the individuality of the regions and especially the continuity.

Despite being there as a kid I was rarely up early enough to see this 😎

Thank you for this-I remember well the Westward TV startup film in the 1970s, whilst on holiday in the South West. It was shown just prior to the 9.30am startup, most often For Schools programmes in those days. Well done!

Great Video. It is intersting to note that the Waymouth transmitter both bradcast Southern Television and Westward untill 1982. At Poole hospitial you could watch both Southern Television and Westward Television untill 1982. GOD BLESS!

Intresting. When I was in Hospital in 1977. At Poole Hospital I am sure we had the Weymoth Trasmitter that could receive both Southern and Westward Television and both B.B.C. South and B.B.C. South West. HAPPY DAYS! When this nation was not so hate full and nasty as today.

As I child I always watched these to see the steam train and on a later WT and the TSW version the High Speed Train.

@ 6:28 The announcer would say the announcement "This is Westward Television, broadcasting on the transmitters of the Independent Broadcasting Authority" (the "Independent Television Authority" prior to Wednesday July 12, 1972), then announce the date of the broadcasting day.

Nowadays is ITV West county (Part of the ITV Regional stations in UK owned by ITV PLC.)

with my aerial pointing at crystal palace I received Thames/LWT.It was quite common to see the logo of the BIG ITV regions appear on screen (Granada,ATV,Yorkshire) before & after programmes they had made for national broadcast across the ITV network but to see the Westward ship,well,i think I can have seen it no more than once or twice,so little was their contribution to the national network.I STILL remember gasping in shock when the logo appeared as I had often read the TV schedules for "distant"(well distant from Aldershot!)ITV regions and was transfixed that Westward apparently had something called "Gus Honeybun's Birthdays"it just sounded delightful.EVEN rarer,and I am sure that this happened once and once only, the CHANNEL TV logo came on before a doc about the Jersey flower festival!!!!!.Was that the ONLY programme that channel was "allowed" to share with the rest of us?.Something strange though about the Westward ident music featured here. None of the jingles seem to be the jingle I remember,were there others?. My Westward "sighting was very late 70's/early 80's.It had around 17 notes to it but of course I can't convey that in type!.

I take it 2/9/1985 means September 2, 1985, because the UK lists the day before the month.
