In this video I show you how to achieve a simple misty forest using the wet on wet technique. I tried to keep this painting as simple as possible by using two colors and two brushes.

I love dark and contrasting watercolors also. I’ve taken a few classes where I’ve been told that my painting is too dark or too bright and that I’m wrong for painting that way. Now I say …to heck with those opinions and I do my own thing. 😊

Ooh no. I’m sorry you’ve had those experiences. It’s always good to learn the different techniques for painting, but it’s even better when you let yourself explore your own take on a piece, no matter how you get there. 🤍🌲🌲🌲

Have you noticed how she wasn't slightly bothered by the paper on the lose and that it started curling as she kept applying more and more wet on it? 😂 Only art, no discomfort. Amazing result.

Haha too funny! Yeah, it eventually evens out with more misting, but a few curls don't bother me too much :) Thank you :)

Hi Jackie! This is a beautiful painting, thank you for sharing. Seeing the use of water is super helpful so please continue to keep it in the shot......I wish more people did this. I'm new to watercolors so it's very very helpful. Thank you!

Yes totally agree. I need to figure out the best way to include everything. I might need to change up my lenses. Thanks for the feedback, Joy! 🌲🌲🌲

For me the most importent thing in a tutorial is that it is filmed from above only and that you can see very good what the teacher/artist is doing so noting is left out. And zooming is if the can
@JackiePeacock

I’ll keep note of that for future videos. Thank you for the feedback, Cathy! 🌲

What's even more important, how she even painted it with such ease having that physical obstacle called a camera. 😅

Thank you so much Katherine. I will have to keep that in mind for future videos because a lot of my videos are different as far as everything being set up. Sometimes my paints are in the shot and sometimes they aren’t. It really just depends, but I’ll keep that in mind for future filming.

I love your paintings and have been practicing and exploring. What would be helpful, at least for me, is to briefly describe how you do the birds and to explain more about having it darker at the base of the trees or elsewhere. I guess a little more why's and how's of the actual subject matter.

I love dark and rich colors, which is why I'm struggling with my watercolor paintings looking "dull" when they dry 😒
@JackiePeacock
@JackiePeacock 10 месяцев назад
I love that you love darker colors, too. When it comes to watercolor, I've found that there are two ways to achieve a more darker and richer feel. One is to make sure you have enough rich paint on your brush and to layer. As someone who likes more moodier paintings, I've had to learn to enjoy the light to dark way of painting and to embrace layering. Sometimes your paints can be a problem as well. I only use professional grade paints these days, but when I started out and used student ones, the colors weren't as strong. But I bet if you start layering and building up your painting that will help.

Another way to achieve a misty forest using wet on wet is with a sponge. Click here to see how you can do this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BUyrYfDhst0.html

Hi Jackie ,. again ,. I am in AWWWWWEE of your techniques and vision. YOU have inspired me on so many levels ,.. you have me hooked on misty moody themes ,.. I would love to see more, (preferably like you have and not too complicated for the beginning artist),. you have also inspired me to use quality supplies such as the Princton long round brushes ,.. and the aqua elite series ,.with that said ,. I was curious ,. do you buy multiples at a time of each size being as much as you paint, or just as needed when they have lost their quality,. ,. and do you have any recommendations for keeping the quality of the brush last longer? .
@JackiePeacock
@JackiePeacock Год назад
I'm so glad I could inspire you! Nothing like have good painting supplies. I will absolutely be painting more misty scenes and misty trees. So, I actually haven't needed to get new brushes. I know my bristles are a little rough that I use for trees and my overall washes (aqua elite 12 one), but they hold up well. I only use those brushes for landscapes. If I am painting other subjects like botanicals or cabins, I use the heritage series by Princeton. Those I make sure to have a lighter hand so I don't mess up the bristles. As far as keeping your brushes in good shape, I would make sure to not leave them in water, to gently dab them dry on a cloth to paper towel, let them dry flat, and to store them bristles up (once absolutely dry). And of course, to not scrub your brushes on paper. I totally do, but that's only for three of my brushes and I'm ok with it. But most artists wouldn't do that. :) Hope that helps.

I don’t understand what you do when you say “I mistimed the paper” you mean you spray it?
@JackiePeacock
@JackiePeacock 11 месяцев назад
I wish I would have been better at filming the parts when I misted these paintings. I promise I'm better at it in more recent videos! And to answer your question, yes, I sprayed the paper. I say mist because in my mind it means delicate droplets of water verses a spray, but I suppose they are the same thing. When I mist/spray my paper, I hold the bottle a few inches away as to not move the wet paint around too much when I spray. But sometimes you'll see me spray it close, and this allows me to quickly move the paint around. I believe you can see this effect in my most current video. Hope that's not too confusing. I'm going to do a quick video on how and why I do this because it's an important question I get a lot and need to clarify haha
