It is crazy that it works, but also once you start thinking about it it starts to make sense. I might be totally wrong here, but my guess would be that there's two parts to how it works. The first part is that there is a higher friction coefficient between the plastic and the paint surface than there is between skin and the paint surface, so it's easier for the bag to get caught on even small imperfections. The second part is the texture of the plastic bag is much rougher than the paint surface, so as the bag gets caught on imperfections in the paint, the skin keeps moves along the bag, and now rather than feeling the paint surface it's actually feeling the surface of the plastic. If the paint surface is "perfectly" flat, then the bag doesn't get caught on anything, so the skin stays in the same position relative to the bag, so the texture it feels never changes. It's only once the bag gets caught on any imperfection and the skin changes position relative to the bag that it feels the changes in texture within the bag itself.

I just don't really know if I would like opening the door and seeing the orange next to the blue green 😅 and I'm glad you're excited for the teaser. That project is by far and away my most ambitious thing I've ever done 😅
