IMO, ET10 takes the cake. Sweet top end rich mids, tight lows. I have loved every ET speaker I have. 3 of them so far. ET65 12. (my fav speakers) If I ever need 10s, I know where to start my search.
Just bought a retro 10 for my pro junior iv cant wait to make the swap! Think itll be perfect after this review. Great to support a near local company too! Retro 10 is 🔥
I just put a Retro 10 in a Fender Champion combo amp. The stock speaker was always thin and had harsh high notes. The Retro 10 was warmer throughout the range and FAR more refined high notes. It appears to be louder, but that may be from the fullness in the mids. The Retro 10 is a really good speaker.
Yes, trying to decide between these 2 , I just got a 1968 marshall Basketweave 8x10. Has all original speakers, but 80 watts isn't enough. I have 4 celestion gold alnicos, I know I know, but I'm stuck with them for the moment. Trying to decides which will pair the best. 8x10!!!!!! With a Bludotone bludo drive, a d style ods style amp. 100 watt. Maybe the et, but I like both maybe the retro in the video but close.
et10 sounds like a 1 trick pony-good for cutting(if not peircing) mids/upper mids. The Retro10 sounds more modern and balanced, wider frequency response and more flexible .
Never tried the Retro, but I have the ET10, and it's a gorgeous speaker. I think it just comes down to the fact the Retro is a better match for this particular amp. I'm using it with a Two-Rock clone, and it sounds amazing. Completely different tones that what I'm hearing here.
It's so hard to judge speakers from a compressed video on RU-vid. And then the mic position, and the fact that you don't hear the full range because the mic picks up only part of the speaker. Also, the amp and the guitar are a big factor. I can't judge these speakers on this video for my Two-Rocks playing with a strat. But I'm glad to hear the ET10 sounds great with your Two-Rock, as I'm having a Two-Rock 4x10 with ET10 speakers coming today.
They sound like they actually would compliment each other quite well, with slight different tonalities. I think they both sound pleasing, but it all comes down to subjective opinions and such. My opinion - stick them both together in a cab, because I bet that gives the fullest sound spectrum.
I love WGS! Unfortunately this demo doesn't impress. The ET10 sounds too much like my cheapo AC4. I'm guessing it's the amp and guitar more than the speakers.
