Dan Hicks....the driest funniest intros ever. Even his thank yous at the end of a song would make you laugh. Maybe the only musical performer i wanted to hear talk during a show. And every intro led to a great song.
Deep Purple was supposed to record at that place in Montreux that burned down due to some loonie at a Zappa / Mothers concert (it is in the lyrics). They finally found a deserted hotel as a replacement for recording which caused considerable noise leakage problems in the neighborhood. What do early 70ies Deep Purple and Can (from Cologne Germany) in common (except the long hair)? Full control of the recordings. Either by renting the Stones mobile or -way more modest- creating one's own studio with two Revox tape machines (two-track pin-pong technology, way outdated at the time, but it meant independence).
Nice to see Can on Whack-A-Mole.Future Days and Tango Mago are my favourites.Went to a couple of shows in the early '70s.Wow they were amazing!! Take care Mazzy, luv the show..
I live Tony Joe White's music. I saw him live every chance I got. I have a bunch of his albums and have never been disappointed. Glad to see him talked about.
Raincoat was called The Rod Stewart Album in the USA. “Reason to Believe” is one of my top ten songs of all time. The US version of The Clash included their version of “I Fought the Law.”
Dude - Mango Tango? I don't think your critique could have been anymore abbreviated. CAN was seminal German Progressive (Krautrock) music at its finest. CAN stated that no CAN song is finished. CAN is god!!!
Future Days is great. That and Tago Mago are the two must haves, for me. Ege Bamyasi is next, and Monster Movie is worth a listen. The only other one I own is Can; which is rubbish.
I've been watching most of your videos over the years and have learnt so much from you .I don't want think I'm teaching you how to "suck eggs" but 3 artists that I've never heard get a mention. From Seattle the Green Pajamas, and from the UK the wonderful Bevis , Frond as well as an amazing singer who was offered the job to replace Jim Morrison in the Doors ..Kevin Coyne. Hopefully you will give them a mention as I know what an influential guy you are Keep up the good work
That Dan hicks lp was on Blue thumb an ABC subsidiary as well as Dave Mason and the Butts band ( Krieger and Densomre ) . Were you ever involved in promoting any of these bands during your tenure with ABC/MCA ?
Being English, I always romanticise the Great American Swamplands (though god knows why !) so hearing you mention "swamp rock" made my ears prick up. I've just checked out Tony Joe White and I think it's a good description, though again I don't really know why. Is it because he's from Louisiana ? Funnily enough, Ian Gillan of Deep Purple recorded a song called New Orleans with his Gillan band but sadly you couldn't really call it swamp rock. Anyways (as I think they say down south), a great vid.
That first Clash album is frustrating on vinyl because the US and UK versions both have essential songs that aren’t on the other. You need to have both versions! Ege Bamyasi is my favorite Can too. I don’t think calling Can neo psychedelic is inappropriate at all. They definitely have some LSD in their DNA.
@@mazzysmusic"back in the day" 😅😅😅 is that the same reason you saw Black Sabbath?! You strike me as someone who stirs away from metal, hard rock and bands that are similar to Can.
@@birdy1numnum can is not metal at all and you know that. In the 70s I bought Can , Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream and lots of Prog. Hard and metal was limited to Sabbath, Purple, Zep, Thin Lizzy , Hawkwind. So more experimental in a way. Then Punk, post punk, art rock and experimental & industrial ehit, and l loved most of those bands more and thought alot of metal and hard rock was boring.
@@mazzysmusicI see, I was wrong. I hope one day (or maybe you already have done a video) you'll make a video about seeing Bowie, Roxy Music, T Rex, etc. before 1975. Thanks Mizzy!!
The Jazz is in front of me so I should reverse the camera. And the soul R&B are the two right bottom rows. All my African in world music in another too I will keep that in mind next time.
Mazzy! Dismal fail on Can, probably the worst pivot I’ve ever seen you make 😂. Avoid the subject and then when you can’t get away from it just admit defeat. Bit like the Tories over here as the limo towards election defeat. Are you wearing pink trousers? Andy
