From the look of it, it looks like the correct Seiko 6309A movement. Since this was one of the Seiko work horse movements there were actually lots and lots of the cheaper Seiko 5 watches that featured it (like the 7s26 now) especially in India and other Asian countries. So, it is very likely cobbled together from several 6309's. I don't know if Hattori/Seiko made a generic version of this movement but I would guess the actual Seiko branded one is much easier to find in India. The nice thing is that they are very rugged and dependable movements that can take a beating and parts are, as you can see, readily available.

@@AvgJoeWatchReviews you know, I'm not sure. There are definitely quite a few shops in India that print dials. They definitely don't seem to have the right font to typical Seiko, but those also may be the lowest level dials Seiko made for all I know.

Avg. Joe Watch Reviews yes looks like when HMT and allwyn left the watch business in India, these watch companies bought the tools to make dials and such. As for the movement, it’s definitely genuine, but the wear you pointed out on the watch barrel ( where the mainspring is ) is quite severe and shows that the lower barrel arbor port bushing has suffered extreme wear and should be replaced with a jewel. It also looks like the rotor bearing has worn significantly as we can see marking around the circumference of the main plate, which is consistent with the rotor rubbing.

@@user-dz9yi5iy3y It's interesting, I hadn't heard about Allwyn before, But as I've looked into them, it looks like their movements are essentially rebranded Seiko movements. Primarily the 6309. Were these manufactured by Allwyn under license In India or manufactured by Seiko and branded for Allwyn?

I actually have a few of those; mainly Oris and Seiko. They keep great time and look really cute. They share space in my watch box with my Grand Seikos and Omegas and life is good. It's all about feeding the right impulse for me every day. If you are good at accessorizing, they can be a kickass accessory.

How much were your vintage Frankenwatch Oris?? I see some on ebay for under $30 from India, do you think they are actually Oris and Seikos?

Yes, a 6309a. Vintage and genuine. Their day wheel is also genuine. SEIKO did several day wheel languages. French German Hindi Spanish and Kanji amongst many more. Not servicing the watch to specific standards with cleaning & oiling leaves little to be desired but where else can someone pick up a genuine vintage 6309a? India only at that price.

Looks to me like it’s just had new hands and dial everything else is original. I actually love these watches. Usually if there are movement numbers along the bottom of the dial then you have the original. I’ve found two watches from India that are fully original. For the price you would struggle to get your vintage watch serviced let alone get the actual watch that’s already been serviced!

As long as it's decently put together with decent aftermarket parts, and an authentic movement I'm good. Price is right and lots of options that look good.

Hey buddy, good review & interesting subject! That movement actually looks like it had spent some time on board the Titanic!!! Personally I don't have too much of a problem with these "Mumbai specials" as long as you go in with your eyes open knowing that these are frankenstein's children Haha at least it's giving an old mechanical watch a last hoorah, but it's still a seiko at heart & could run forever 😁 also for those that love watches but are on a ridiculously tight budget what a cool way to feed your passion & Keep the hobby alive! 😊

Good vid. I messaged a similar ebay seller and he said "Refurbished means the watch is operated by a genuine Seiko Movement however; the case & dial are recreated. "

I recently bought a Seiko 5 frankenwatch. The movement appears to be a 6309. The case is very shiny chrome and reminds me of a Vostok diver only much smaller. The back doesn't quite fit right. It appears to be a legit Seiko back fitted to some aftermarket case. The case is too shallow to fit the movement and it will stop if you tighten the back. It didn't have a gasket. The watch will run if I shake it, stops within an hour or 2.

I will never be able to afford to replace the 60's vintage omega that was stolen from me in the 90's, but I have HMT pilots in those styles that compliment all that i wear. Plus I can use them on the job which is physical and not worry about damaging them too much.

I have one it’s a 1979 or 69, probably 79 though and it looks to be 100% original. The dial looks super beat up the lacquer was coming off and some of the painted dashes for the minutes were almost non existent. Not to mention it was pretty dirty and had a little bit of rust under the actual crystal

It's a tough one, most of the RU-vid watch guys slag off frankenwaches, but if you think about Car World I suppose it's comparible to a kit Hot Rod Car, it may be made with various aftermarket parts but if it looks good and drives OK then result...this is a Watch corridor I intend to go down, even if you get a bad one, it's silly money at the end of the day.....still tons better than a fake Rolex....

Starting my Seiko watch collection and I made 2 rookie mistakes buying watches from India. At least it wasn’t an expensive mistake but I want to start working on watches and plan on taking the 2 I bought and cleaning/replacing parts.

For metal bracelets I always take a look on AliExpress. I’d you try your best you can find good quality. Just take a close look at the reviews and pictures from the costumers

These are patched together from HMT Cases; sure the movements and dials might be legit but the cases are the dead ringer. Not that it matters $20 is $20 and the watches do look nice. If I were to buy a couple I might snazz them up a bit more. A few well place gemstones on the dial, new glass. Just simple improvements.

I think it has 6309A movement which would be correct for an 80s Seiko 5. I think it's possible that this isn't so much a frankenwatch, just a vintage watch in rough shape.With a repainted dial.
