I used to love going to Chilli's until I went to the one in Pryor Creek Oklahoma... The hostess just wipes everything onto the floor, nastiest and filthy... We walked out
@@stevestevens1457 the term diner comes from dining cars on trains. Legit diner restaurants were originally made from actual retired rail dining cars, and even the ones that weren't adopted the long and narrow floor plans.
It's not. Real dinets are what you find in New Jersey, the diner capital of the world. I absolutely hate when people including Americans call small eateries, cafes, or these chain places, diners.
@@AngelA-qi1br there is no real diner though? I agree but the definition of diner is “a small, inexpensive restaurant found across the United States” so yes apple bees is a diner
@@davidwilson7358 Applebee's is a chain restaurant. I looked up "diner" and the definition I saw was "a food establishment serving "American" cuisine, having booths, table and counter service, sometimes with only one cook." Basically what a New Jersey diner has been since the 1940s-1950s, albeit diners are bigger and have multiple cooks these days
Yeah if you go to any grocery store every single canned packaged and boxed item has a shit ton of sugar in it . It’ll be a challenge not to find an item without sugar as one of the ingredients. Now, the ones that say “sugar free” still add some sort of sweetener to it. This goes for 98% of the items in stores AND restaurants.
@celery7810 Well, he could turn his head and ask one of the Americans he came in with or there's even people they pay to describe the menu for you (waiters), and there's always google.
@@pramudyaprilo4750 Clearly you haven't been to the entire country. Because there's actually a lot of places with really damn good food. Maybe don't be so ignorant next time.
@@jordanfelt5978 said by an american who never get out of america, cant believe an american just called me "ignorant" this idiot didnt even know me irl 💀💀💀
In accurate and untrue. If anything America is the country of forcing sugar-free alternatives down everybody's throats. I guess you aren't from America or you would know that.
And yet you can find them at almost every other shopping district with a lot of them packed during regular rush hours and weekends loke other popular restaurants. Just because you dont eat there doesnt mean that other people follow you. Applebee's is like McDonald's; it's a last resort/safe choice place to eat at.
"We originally went to Chili's but they were busy so we came here" There's your most American answer. It's convenience and food that doesn't taste bad.
Nahh Applebees is gross I’m sorry. I got their Southwest chicken bowl, it was so bland, no amount of salt could save it. The whole damn thing tasted exactly the same. Even the guacamole.
I just gotta say that I really appreciate the quietness of your videos. It's nice to see someone respect others in a public space. Upsetting it had to be from someone who is not from here
@@kadence1artist749 Applebee's is literally just like a shitty chain that pays their staff shit and has mostly frozen food. As someone that has worked there, it's akin to Chili's. The food isn't horrible but it's usually mediocre as is the service.
@@aidenbenda911 A lot of foreigners will say our food is sweet because... It is. 🤷🏻♀️ Slowly, over many decades, the food industry has slipped in sugar in just about every product to get people to eat their food. Milk has far more sugar in it than it used to. Fruit and vegetables are sweeter than they used to be, thanks to chemical engineering and cultivation. Look into it, it's crazy. Mac n Cheese in other countries won't taste the same to us, because most countries don't slip sugar into everything their citizens eat.
I mean I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with you if you like the restruant, but at least to me Applebee's food is okay at best. Most of the food there isn't even worth ordering, but if I absolutely had to eat at Applebee's I'd still eat the food. I personally wouldn't order or eat food there on my own choice, but it's perfectly fine if other people like it.
Pft at least here, Applebees is below even 24/7 diners like ihop, Waffle House, and dennys 😂 past last resort of last resort - Waffle House is the place you go in a freaking hurricane cause everywhere else is closed! 😂
I remember when my town first got an applebees it was one of the first big things that ever came here it was pretty cool especially from growing up in small town America to having a big fancy restaurant right in the middle
Apple bees has garbage food their drinks are the only reason I go they have super cheap drinks I remember the month when they did .25 cent Long Island ice teas let’s just say me and the wife went there almost everyday but apple bees is definitely the type of place where you eat somewhere else then go there to get drunk.
I don’t understand these hate comments. I honestly liked this video, he was genuinely happy to have been able to have gone to Applebees and have an American meal. Although, as an American, I wouldn’t immerse myself too much 😬
ya as a mexican american born into america my family wanted me to still know my culture so we barely went to restaurants like that and we normally ate homemade mexican food
I go to Applebees with my mom for our girls day, cause it’s reasonably priced (even my broke college butt can pay for it), it’s pretty consistent at every location and it’s gonna have something everyone likes on the menu
I remember as a kid my family didn’t go to these restaurants because it was expensive. My current mid 20’s self feels like it’s reasonably priced but I can get better food in other places lol , either way there is a certain charm to these restaurants when I think about growing up and finding them fancy places you only go to for special occasions!
"Why do you go out to eat at those places?" "Because I had a long day and don't feel like cooking at home and these are the only reasonably priced alternatives readily available..."
For our family we like Applebee's because it's quick cheap and they have stuff for the kids to eat and to keep then busy while we eat. Plus they make good drinks at our location.
Bro I thought the same!! 🤣 really being American means we understand what real American food is as well as lots of other foreign authentic cuisines, but still ending up eating at a chain more often than not when we do go out.
My favorite place to eat is Cracker Barrel. It’s such a fun place, and every time I go I vow to get something besides pancakes. Then I smell them and can’t help but get them
It’s a sports bar that you can bring the family and create memories with it like eating the craft Mac and cheese with garlic toast. 😢 I miss those days!!!!
You should try In-N-Out. They cook, serve, and sell the best burgers honestly. Getting to choose between different fast food restaurants, I would pick this burger place. Try the shakes!! Strawberry and chocolate are the BEST!! I love your videos and learning about cultures!!
@@shaneleigh1293 Most people who grow up in rich EU countries or South Korea/Japan (And some other places, can't name them all) like myself learn to appreciate the high quality foods we eat on a daily basis. The US food quality especially in fastfood restaurants are incredibly low and I highly doubt that applebees is any better than what I'd expect it to be (never went there I don't visit many fastfood places because I actually value quality). Fastfood chains in the US just have a terrible image in some places
@@user-pe6ct7ut8t you are partially right, i can absolutely see where you're coming from saying you value food quality (as i do myself, having grown in a very priviliged environement) but its no reason to look down on people who probably can't afford the insane quality standards privileged people are used too. Im sure everybody would like to have the best food if they could, but they cant.
I remember when I was like 8, me and my mom were at our special hotel that had an applebee’s in it. It was like 11 at night on a Saturday, so they were moderately crowded. A diner is a truck stop with a breakfast place in it. It can also be a very small eatery. This is a restaurant. Also, the next time you should try the steaks, as people love their steaks. 😊
"I want to immerse myself in American culture." Definitely branch out from the big, national, chains. Local diners can be way better. It's highly variable though. Some barely even try. Others really put their heart into it. The chains tend to be consistently mediocre, which is the main reason anyone goes to them, just because they know what they're going to get (ideally, there is some variability there too...)
Don’t forget that some, maybe even a lot of, Americans don’t know better. They may not have many choices locally or they may have never thought to try something different.
But chain restaurants are the American culture? I get what you’re saying but these types of restaurants are what a majority of Americans go to/can afford. If you go to another country, Google will tell you a popular places near you, but the locals might not necessarily be fond of it. But it’s the cheaper option for locals due to the popularity
@@malik-ll9yz dude. I am American. Why are you telling me what American culture is? Also, "American culture" is not some monolithic thing. There are several American CultureS. Chain restaurants and strip malls are one of them. But there are others. And even on the chain restaurants side of things, there is a difference between national chains, regional chains, and local chains. You're definitely limiting yourself if you stick to a handful of nationally known brands...
My aunt worked in the food and beverage industry for 30+ years and she says chain restaurants like that either put a lot of sugar or salt in their food
As a non-American, yes. From a foreigner's perspective, we relate America to fast food chains, supersized anything, guns, hypersensitive to race, gender and criticisms. But also viewed as entertainment geniuses when it comes to movies and/or any type of media shows, amusement parks, etc.
@@madamebelle- agreed, except for the movie part. In my country, when we say a movie is american we mean over the top and crap. I’ve always seen people that go to Applebee’s as crackheads because I’ve only ever been to Applebee’s like three times, and every time I got food poisoning, and most of the time the food was greasy and shitty. The best thing I’ve heard from there was a spinach cheese wrap, and it was still kind of mid
Your blessed, there food isn’t really good, honestly I ate there like 4 times and there food was subpar, could make something better and cheaper at home
The best (and worst) of US diners are the ones that have less than a dozen locations; 'The Spot' (2 locations) in Flagstaff, Arizona is pretty good, along with 'Little Johns' in Eastgate, Washington.

Don't go. You'd be safer breading and frying a pound of lard in lard, then lightly sprinkling a pound of salt on said lard. As you can see from Mr. Chili's, he's all about eating a healthy diet.
