I feel late commenting on this video but when I was in college I had a mentor who actually was in a sorority. We both have a Mexican background however I never was in one but felt like my mentor exemplified the sorority sister bond towards me throughout seeing her. I knew sorority’s were expensive and I couldn’t afford to be in one. The thing is it felt Inspiring to see her shine a positive light on what was always stereotyped as a white person thing. I always wanted to be in one growing up but when I heard so many negative things about it, it made me not want to consider it ever. The thing was I had a hard time envísioning myself in the specific sorority she was in. I’m not sure if it was because it felt like it was too centered on the emotional expression of the Hispanic community which I felt looked like a certain way to exist. It’s like black hbcus could have a variety of diffferent ways to be and I felt her sorority only expressed itself one way which I didn’t like. At least for me being from a Mexican background, It just looked like the image they presented leaned more serious and I truly am a lot more free spirited like a white girl.
Bro it’s not them yak came over with Spain it was black ppl here first don’t let them tell us otherwise we didn’t all come from Africa most African Americans don’t even look like African people we are the pink /red lips that’s what they called us when they said the bounties was for the Redskins the bounties was for the red lips not the Redskins
I grew up not being involved with native culture but When I was around 9 I started really getting into my native culture and it’s beautiful and unique but not many people still grow with the Native culture because we were silenced and forgotten. Our land was taken. So we don’t want special treatment we want to be understood.
Pretty sure this is what world history class is for. Fun fact, “native Americans” are only native Americans if they’re born in America. Not necessarily ethnically. Because if you want to get technical with that “we were here first mindset”, then it would actually be more factually correct to say every human on earth is an African native. The only difference? European settlers just took longer for them to find out america existed. Coming from a guy who’s great grandparents were Cherokee native and the other was European settler decent.
