I have wet/dry/wet and I use a radial ABY with A going to my dry after my drives. B goes down the line and fortunately this is my first stereo pedal. One output goes to a wet amp the other goes to a reverb and then the other wet amp. Love the stereo delays.
It is so true. 30 minutes isn’t even enough time to begin to show what it can do. There’s so many sounds in the multi head mode alone that I’m constantly wowed.
Hello from England, i'm a 77 yr old guitar player.i've used many echo units over the years, but this boss is the best sounding pedal i've ever played through. I love it.
The only thing I don't like about this pedal is the dead air between patches. Maybe as much as 1 second or so of dry signal when switching patch. Prevents it from being used in some mid-song scenarios. Doesn't affect me much as I'm not that complicated of a player but people should be aware of it.
As a mono player running a 60' cs strat into a 64 custom deluxe reverb, the dm 101 very quickly kicked my re 202 off the board. It's so much more musical and natural sounding to my ear with a ton more options. Digital and stereo are cool and maybe someday I'll get there, but for my old ass dad rock blues rock ear, I'm about as happy as can be with this pedal as one can get.
I think you’ve got the perfect rig for it. I bet that Strat sounds insane through that gear. And I totally agree for a versatile mono pedal the DM-101 is insane. That multihead mode sounds amazing and you get 11 more delays to go with it. It’s insanely good.
You made the perfect video for me in trying to understand my options. How about using a parallel line mixer (and MIDI) to get that stereo / w-d-w set up as you imagine?
There is one inaccuracy in regards to the outputs. It was stated that both outputs are wet. In reality the outputs are configurable. You can also set it so the A output is wet and the B output is dry. Additionally, you can also set it to kill dry. See page 13 of the pdf manual.
With the stereo in, it just is not possible on a true analog BBD pedal like this; it would require having two of the entire circuit in the pedal, because BBDs cannot accept stereo in. It’s not a lack of processing power, but rather a hard mechanical limitation of analog delay.
I had a feeling that was the case. I figured to do true stereo you’d have to run two full circuits and 16 bbd chips would be pretty cost prohibitive. Guess you could run two of these on a board. It would be expensive but man I bet it would sound good ;)
6:24 I guess (besides technical reasons), this is mono on purpose. Or better said: they didn't worry about stereo inputs as a analog delay normally is used quite early in the signal chain, when the guitar signal is mono anyway. Compare that to the SDE3000, a digital delay with stereo inputs because normally, digital delays go late in the chain even after amp/ir, where the signal may be stereo already. Looking forward to purchase the DM101, a perfect match to the SDE3000D.
I did hear the pedal in real and the sound from the DM-101 is so much warmer and alive then from a digital delay which is much more cold and static sounding.
Say you are running out of a stereo chorus into the Dm 101. Use a 1/4 inch Y splitter. Run the left channel of the Chorus in to the delay, and the right channel to your next pedal (maybe a stereo reverb). using the Y splitter, run both the Chorus direct, and one channel of the Delay into the verb, and run the other channel of the delay direct in to the verb. Not ideal, but it solves the "forcing the Dm-101 to the front of the stereo chain" issue. You can also run a second stereo delay in parallel using this method.
I gave this a go tonight and it does work as a pass around. It doesn’t quite achieve the real stereo field but it’s a great workaround. Thanks for the tip.
@@masterofreality230 I totally agree. That was the biggest miss in my book. I know it would have taken more internal processing to do two full lines of audio rather than splitting after processing but it really makes it not functional for a lot of the things I’d like to do.
@@masterofreality230 From what I hear, that would require another complete set of 8 BB chips. Not cost effective, I'm sure. I don't know all of the logistics, cost, room in the housing, ect. But I can imagine it was prohibitive in multiple ways.
hi there.. when you have the Delay Time Time and Delay Volume up loud on a Vox 'nu tube' amp, I get a really ugly comb-filter type sound on the high end. Is that normal?
I haven’t tried that box before so not sure about that. I m is when that delay volume is really high it can get a little weird but it shouldn’t go comb filter like. Illl see if I can recreate it and give you any feedback I find if I can.
It is not REALLY a stereo pedal since it is not STEREO IN. All pedalboards of clever guitarists have delay at the end of the pedal chain, so this pedal 101 cannot be used as stereo at all. Furthermore, it should have dry/wet pot on BOTH OUTPUTS so that it can put dry signal into a proper stereo soundfield... etc. Yes, it is good that it is true analog (the only way I like it) and that it has a number of options... but it is NOT PROPERLY THOUGHT-OUT. New version is eagerly awaited... with correct stereo features... ofcourse.
