Let us know what you think of the GH5 II & GH6. We are aware of the title being in the middle of the screen but only noticed 30 mins before the embargo, sorry it’s only 30 seconds worth!!

"Better" cameras keep coming out, and yet pros still hold onto their GH5's, it's solid, durable, feature-rich, light-weight, reliable kit that you would be stupid to give up because there still are plenty of applications where it's the best kit to pack out to the shoot or location. Periodt.

Now December 2022 and I have just bought the GH5 M2. It has several advantages over the GH6 for me, including price, 4K/6K Photo, and live streaming. It is a bargain at its current price point, plus I got mine with a free 25mm f1.7 promo offer making it even better value. Impossible to beat this combination of features and price point.

GH6 needs a dual native ISO. That would be amazing. They're working on the AF and the other biggest weak point was low light with m43.

If it is a 24MP sensor with 5.7K video, then it is probably multi-aspect just like the GH5S, so it should be close to that. Maybe it will offer different stabilisation modes depending whether it crops in slightly on the sensor, like the A7SIII Active mode.

Agree. The low light and AF are why I’m jumping ship to Sony, unless the gh6 can compete in those areas.

The GH6's Dynamic Range Boost feature is effectively an automatic Dual-Native ISO mode. The effect can be clearly seen in measurements of the GH6's ISO noise levels compared to those of the GH5s. I was planning on getting blasé on this, but the linear focus option did it for me. I have a GH5s and I won't be getting the mark II, but it makes me hopeful for the GH6. I like to think that Panasonic knows how to play their strengths. Also, the 10-25mm/25-50mm 1.7f combo seems like a very solid kit. I mean good battery life, no time limit, no over-heating, more than enough decent codec, a lot of assists, clear and easy menu, excellent IBIS. This is is a strong portable kit. Only situation I crave Sony or Canon autofocus is live events like music shows.

I purchased a GH5 II and I love it. The autofocus although not amazing is still pretty good in most cases. I did a GH5 II vlog rest at one of the conventions I attended and I was very satisfied with how it performed (video on my channel if you’re interested). I’ll eventually be switching over to the GH5 II for my vlogging & RU-vid needs (and selling my A6400).

Looks like a decent upgrade. I own a GH5 and my lenses and rigs are built around it, love it and the compact formfactor. Waiting for a MFT body to basically swap it out with (without investing into fullframe glass). Hopefully the GH5II reviews will be good and will give a glimpse in the image quality and dynamic range the GH6 might offer.

Hey CVP team - as a current GH5 user I personally feel the GH5M2 is a testing ground for some of the features what GH6 might get. On paper the GH6 specs really looks impressive but it's matter of wait and watch if pricing can justify and compete against the fullframe stalwarts. Also can I ask what camera do you use for your studio shots? Is that a BMCC ?

The gh5 is still a great camera and it's price will probably drop a bit making it a great camera for people with less money like me. More people will be getting the newer models so that means more cheap stuff for me

BMPCCRAW kind of spoiled the market for us all didn’t it? I had the GH5 in 2018 and I’m using the black magic 4k now and having a raw format really made me not miss my GH5. Maybe the great IBIS / lens OIS combo I miss.

GH5 can use v90.. im using one right now. It's the only way to shoot 400mbps ALL-I

Although it’s a little disappointing I think we can see that the GH 5 mark two has got a lot of positive improvements. Get the feeling it’s moving in the right direction there are a lot of interesting details. Why didn’t they bring on four channel audio and built-in time code generator?

Part of me would love the GH6 to have built in ND filters. Even if they have to sacrifice a bit of the form factor that eliminates such a big headache in terms of making sure you buy lenses with the same barrel size (or buying step up rings to fit your covers); especially if you have a collection of vintage lenses, or a collection of lenses from different manufacturers which normally use different barrel sizes. Something like that would justify the higher price point, and its possible that could be the ace up its sleeve.

People have been talking about the demise of M43 for years and years now but the reality is that not everyone needs 8K, clean ISO 10,000+ or the extra-wide distortion-free lenses that full-frame provides and for some people the weight / size benefits of M43 are crucial. I see full-frame eating away slowly at M43 market share on the top end but similarly it wouldn't surprise me if it gains market share on the low end as a used full rig becomes affordable to people who would otherwise shoot on phones or compacts.

GH5s is definitely still the camera to go with for low light shooting. GH5 vs GH6 is really no competition. I would upgrade to the GH6 in that case. I might keep my GH5s for a second camera on those run and gun shoots. The GH5s is gonna do great in low light scenes and the GH6 is going to have higher frame rate 4K and other capabilities that the GH5s does not. Hopefully Panasonic will drop a GH6s that would be sweet for filmmakers. Keep in mid there are many features on both the GH5 and GH6 that the GH5s does not have. The GH5 and GH6 have a much higher megapixel for stills than the GH5s. The GH5s leans more towards filmmaking than versatility.

Between the GH5 II and BGH1, I can no longer recommend the GH5S to anyone unless Panasonic drastically lowers the price.

Why is that so? I've seen a couple reviews on the BGH1 and many complained about the user interface. I was thinking of going towards the GH5S since it has actual buttons and better control interface.

Low light, bruh. It doesn't look like the GH5 II has dual native ISO and that's a dealbreaker if you need to shoot in dark locations. I get that the BGH1 has it but that's not really gonna solve for the form factor. Not everybody wants to deal with a box camera.

Great camera for video. However if you a looking for a weather sealed do it all camera for both video and photo the pocket 6k pro just doesn't fill that like the GH series does.

@@ivucica Amen! I own a gh5 and plenty of glass. Some of it quite expensive. I want to buy a S5 and go into the full frame market a little for studio photography, but that involves investing in a lot of new expensive full frame glass! So I'll be eagerly waiting to see what the gh6 brings instead

Me too - I wanted to be able to pan, crop and zoom and output in 4K, but I guess all those megapixels is a lot to ask of a small sensor.

@@jespersichlau4343 8K footage is crispier than 4k. And good for cropping in. I definitely recommend checking out some of the 8k footage on RU-vid. It looks amazing.

@@Nick-4K Of course it will be sharper, simply because it's downressed. But the camera doesn't need to output to 8K - the sensor needs to be 8K. I understand it'll allow you to crop afterwards, but in my opinion that is simply lazy filmmaking. If you can see a difference between 4K and 8K, you'll also be able to see a difference when cropping in anyway.

@dyong888 I am interested in the GH6 but Panasonic I guess needed to put a flag down to encourage people to hold on for their next step. Click bait all around. I wonder when review units and details will come out. It seems two months before availability. What is the hold up? Chips (either component availability or manufacturing capacity) or waiting for other manufacturer reveal. Olympics might provide a reveal.
