Nice to see this PC mad genius here ! I'm not going to have random ducks on my screen from this reply am I ? Please find a way to collab with Kasey and MC for a CC rig upgrade. I'm pretty sure he's still on early socket 775, just nothing wireless please, Kasey's like a spider living in his web of wires and he's comfortable there
Cool! That's the comparison I've been waiting for. I bought the GH6 last year and felt a bit cheated when S5II came out with the new autofocus. Apart from that, the image quality of the GH6 is fantastic.
GH6 II might happen, same sensor but phase detect seeing they did that with S5 II which is essentially very much same body with a few modifications to fit an internal fan and the exact same sensor but with phase detect.
Camera industry is a scam. You will never get a camera that is perfect with it all. That would put the rest out of business and they don’t do that to eachother. They work together
There is no one perfect camera suitable for everyone, photographers / videographers have different needs. The idea that camera companies are working together and being upset about the wealth of technological marvels and tack sharp optics available in 2023 is ridiculous.
What nonsense. Just like exposure is always a compromise within the exposure triangle, camera features must always be a compromise between parameters. It means that different cameras can be perfect for different needs, and not good for others. For my needs the G9 is the perfect camera. It is the best camera I have ever used. But for your needs there will be a different camera that is ideal for your needs. The problem is too many people think that a single camera should do everything. That is impossible, and always will be impossible. The photographers who are happy with their cameras are the ones who understand their own vision and photographic needs. Those photographers are then able to find the camera that is perfect for them.
Great Video. Thank you. Switching from Canon to Pana Lumix S5 II and 2 bodies, would you recommend 2x S5 II and also with Sigma 60-600mm for Tele or 1x S5II and 1x GH6 with 100-400mm as Tele and for video and photo?
🤣You always crack me up! Thanks for keeping it light, and still keeping it informative. I like the S5 II, but it's out of my price range. I may look into a used gh6, but currently looking at trading in a e-m5 ii and an e-m5 iii with 14-150 II kit lenses for a used e-m1 iii with a 12-100 pro IS. I'll probably end up getting that if I don't find a better deal.
The Lumix S Series gives creators a competitive alternative to over-priced brands especially now that the company is finally tackling the auto-focus issue. This company listens to its customers and is in touch with reality. Imagine a camera with the best IBiS, best color science, and an up-and-coming phase-detect AF? That's a trifecta of a gem!
@@randomoneforstuff3696 100% this. I have the S1, S5, and S5ii. And the color on the S5ii is drastically different and its shocking how little people talk about it. I find that adjusting the tint in the white balance by 2-4 on red and 2-4 on blue helps get rid of the new greenish tint.
@@DrWNoLs I've been looking at RU-vid reviewers' footage and wondering how almost none of them noticed it. I'm curious if the color shift only applies with V Log and Panasonic's Rec.709 conversion lut, or if it also affects the standard and natural picture profiles -- the ones I usually shoot with. (mainly on the original S5)
@@randomoneforstuff3696 I can tell you for certain that it impacts all of them, unfortunately. I was actually comparing that yesterday, and the tint is definitely there. It's still worth getting imo, because the white balance tint shift really does work quite well and gets standard and natural close. But you have to work around it and cant just mindlessly set it like the OG S5.
@@DrWNoLs Thanks for the information. The tint actually reminds me a bit of my old Lumix ZS100. That point and shoot camera's color science has always had a weird green tint on skin tones. Also, do you have any idea how to remove sensor dust from a pocket (non-interchangeable lens) camera? There seems to be a really apparent dust spot when at 250mm and f8.
Love your movies - excellent production, direction, score, heart-warming stories, and your videography will Oscar recognition. If you need any actors or extras for your next feature - I've some chickens, and am willing to mail a few to Canada.
The GH-6 lost your face three times during the intro. We have our answer. The R5's animal eye AF works all over the frame, including 4K/120. But that slo-mo is pixel binned and soft. The S5 II's AF is very sharp but restricted to the central area, so no ruling of thirds, doesn't work at HD/120, and 4K/60 is cropped. The GH-6 has great image quality but the AF hunts like Elmer Fudd. The A7S III has no video animal AF at all. The search for perfection continues. Please test the R6 II. It supposedly has upgraded AF along with HD/180.
wait. I predict Panny boy will give us a gh6II, S1HII, maybe even a g9II with PDAF. but agreed, 6 is crippled, 5II is crippled in some areas. but its still big progress. Marty Sender You Tube
Manual focus becomes second nature the more you do it. Often, it's faster to focus manually than to adjust autofocus settings. Therefore, I have to say that GH6 remains the first choice until Panasonic ups the specs on their phase detect cameras. That might be a while for them to catch up.
nice comparison and great work! Thanks ! The gh6 looks interesting. My personality choice is the s5 mark 2 . If you need more frames in slowmo , just use optical flow and you get it up to 20 -30 % without loss of (much) quality. Also you have awesome low light performance in Full Frame and the nice autofocus on Board :) With other Words : the s5m2 Problems you can solve with small tricks . If you dont shot on low light and use manual focus , save the Money and take the gh6. Both are very great Cameras!
My name is Damian and I'm a Panasonic fannyboy, I have dabbled in other eco-systems with limited success. Personally, the future is Panasonic for features value for money and would upgrade to Panasonic S5 II for the low light magic and keep all micro 4/3 lenses for a future 4/3 body with DPAF. Camera body's die and are reborn but light through a good lens is forever
Pretty much sums up the current situation. Perfect camera lies between GH6 and S5II. I hope there will be a GH6S or GH7, because I want to keep the less expensive and light and compact MFT glass. But also a S6 will be thrilling obviously.
The image quality sharpness and color science of the GH6 blew the S5II away in every shot. I don't know if it was down to the leica glass you were using which i know does make a huge difference but if it was the camera, there ain't no autofocus in the world good enough for that tradeoff in sheer je ne sais quoi.
With v log, the S5 colours can be almost anything you want, and the S5 has better dynamic range, leading to smoother highlight roll off, more detail in shadows and highlights. GH6 is great, but S5 is really juicy.
It sounds like the S5 II was struggling to see the squirrel when it was sitting still because it just looked like a black blob, but it knew it was an animal when it started moving and then the animal tracking kicked in.
Panasonic S5II impressing again. As for your perfect camera (and possibly the perfect camera for those not needing high resolution), I'm thinking maybe an S1II or perhaps S1HII. 24 MP stacked sensor (same one in the A9II), ultra competitive price point of £3800/$3800. We know Panasonic won't skimp on video features and the stacked sensor should be able to support 4K120p and perhaps even 6K60P neither with crop. New PDAF but refined, low light AF refined, the GH6 ultra articulated screen and Pannyboy VLOG for those sweet sweet colours with the rec 709 LUT. A camera like that might be the new RU-vidrs choice and would probably be the best camera on offer at that price point........till Sony come out with an A9III with a 33 MP stacked sensor with like a 1/500s readout speed lol.
Mate, what can we say? Comedy and cameras! Love it!! I have the s5 and gh5 and not sure which way to go…maybe wait until next release? Anyway will look forward to your next video 😂
Hum, additionnaly according to this guy ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dEpmUfyESRc.html the autofocus is possibly contrast based for FHD videos at basic rate. So this make the s5m2 not so interesting for shooting FHD. I can say that many of your videos are entertaining!
I own GH5 GH6 and S5ii. Got a great deal to straight swap my GH6 to s5 + sigma 85mm f1.4. A cam is S5ii + Lumix S pro 28-70 B cam S5 + sigma 85mm C cam GH5 + speedbooster 18-35mm What do you think?
Damn that black squirrel footage from the Pan S5ii looked like you had the cinema in your hands, the colours were moody and sharp. Love your stuff Kasey keep up the good work
I will keep my OM1 and GH6 and MFT lenses and will sell my Nikon. I will buy the S5ii and use it like a B Camera for low like situations for video work and occasional photography.
I am waiting also still shoot with GH5 so waiting for phase detect on a M4/3 have invested on too many lenses!! Crossing fingers for the GH6 mark 2 with phase detect and I think you would almost have the perfect camera!! IMO
You're mocking the whole industry for playing US, the serious filmmakers who are waiting for a perfect camera to do anything barely connected to filmmaking. Flawless Slowmo chewing goat is the reason to spend extra money for slightly improved old camera.
I hope you ask this horses of out was ok to film them. If they find out you was filming without their permission they will break into you home and eat all your ad cards.
Wonder if Panasonic does not already have phase detection AF in their MFT cameras. Remember Olympus? They were able to add it to a pretty old camera via FW update. And blackmagic revealed that their cameras are recording gyro data. They kept it a secret until a few months ago. Cripple Hammer confirmed.
I find it hard to believe they won't add Phase Detect to the next GH cameras at the very least. Really hoping the reason there has been no news of another G9, is because they've been secretly working on Phase Detect in the next version. Adding PD focus through a firmware update would be great but probably wishful thinking. We'll see.
Both cameras have stunning picture quality , the af also is not so bad in the gh6 if they add phase detect gh6 sales will go up dramatically and the s5 will sell like fresh bread anyway
Richard wong says there is a animal eye detect on the S5 ii, but it’s not on by default. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mth5cV9hFYM.html
Kacey, you can actually get a nice slo-mo boost with optical flow in post on AE or Premiere. You can easily double the frame rate (or make it twice slower) without any glitches. I think you can turn 120 in 240 with great results. There is no good fix in post for a pulsing hunting focus or a low light tiny sensor stravaganza.
Have you ever considered an older FS5/FS5 II? Viewfinder, great ergonomics, 8 mp Sony apsc sensor, up to 960 fps bursts albeit not full hd anymore, best colorscience you can get out of an e-mount system. Not really great for vlogging though.
Sony is now very uninteresting to me. Panasonic, has almost the same autofocus, with much better colors and stabilization. What is not to love! Perfect...no way...but what is?! Panny is getting my money when I buy my next camera and it could very well be this one. ( S5 II)
Please please please can you check the mount free play? My S5 has some rotational free play with all my lenses. When I zoom the lens rotate like half a mm and clicks. It is so increadibly annoying and I am wondering if this issue is persistent or my cameras is screwed. Thanks a lot! 🙏
That is a great improvement. They also take your ancient slr or mirrorless for 300 euro at the moment. What is funny is how expensive fujifilm h2s looks now that panasonic is making this improvement in autofocus precision. The s5iix will be cheaper than the h2s and offer better image quality, better low light, better autofocus, good integrated cooling, and primes with motors and optics designed for video autofocus.
You are a gifted person. You provide a balance or entertainment and information. Let’s call it entermation. I watch you often. I’ll say it again. The son I never had.😢 Peace! Q:Why do the Dutch wear wooden shoes? A:To keep the woodpeckers off their heads,…
Nice conversation with the horse by the way.. haha Seriously though great video I have a S1 and I love it and always believe that panasonic is superior in camera quality. I just wish they had more of stabilization like the smooth go pro 11 I have. Keep the good videos coming for 2023!
Funny video. Heads up for the "AF Bros", when going above 30P and HDMI out (monitor) you'll enter AF-C DFD mode, lose subject tracking, and shift off PDAF This is cited by Gerald Undone, and confirmed by Panasonic. It will likely be updated later given there aren't any sensor read limitations.
@@bystronphotovideo I am assuming anything above 30P. This also was recently confirmed in groups for lower resolutions as well (FHD 1080 50P switches to DFD).
This video reveals what I have been seeing. The GH6 is still an overall better filmmaker camera than the S5 II. The GH6 compliments my S1H very well (now that I am better at getting the colors to match). I commend Panasonic's efforts with the S5 II and I am very hopeful it will bring in more users to the ecosystem, but the S5 II nor S5 II X are a replacement for my S1H. Panasonic, if you are reading this (and I assume you are), please just give us 4K 120, VND, SSD Recording and a bigger battery...plus eliminate those damn crops.
@Big Cook The S1H has timecode, better hi-res multi-angle screen, more RAW options, larger battery, tally lights, more buttons. I can keep going. The S1H was developed for actual video/film making. The S5IIX is going to be good but very few S1H filmmakers are going to give up on the S1H for just PD-AF.
