Yeah I thought everyone in Africa who uses MTN would know that it's South African. Vodacom was the first network in SA but then the government created MTN in the late nineties and expanded to the rest of the continent and the middle east. Then Cell C, Telkom, Rain and the ever failing Virgin Mobile.

I was thinking of Multichoice's M-Tel initiative they attempted in the early 1990s after Vodacom was established. If I remember correctly M-Tel didn't last long and its assets were absorbed by vodacom and Autopage. I could be wrong about this as well but doesnt change the fact that MTN is a South African owned network.
