This is awesome, although I think Silver nitrate would have been used in place of the Turmeric.

Very possible. But in Asia, turmeric may be more readily available or affordable... I think!

Clever idea for a video, well done. I would think that flint and steel would be part of the kit. I like the fish deboning tweezers. I also think the kit would be in an old tin can, maybe two different sizes tied shut with leather or sinew from deer or other animal. Again very cool video 😊

It would be great if the magnifying glass would fit into the compass lid. That would save some space and protect it very well.

Have you considered putting jerky in one of these? The process by which jerky is made is basically as old as time at this point, and its always good to have some emergency rations. Modern day I'd put maybe a payday bar in there, but you get what you get with ancient times. Lol
@urbanknifeguy
@urbanknifeguy 9 месяцев назад
I think Jerky or some dehydrated food is a great idea! Thanks.

Wax paper is easier.. it was invented in 1872.. so that would be a good thing..to keep your items in dry condition. Petro Strike lighter was the same.. used by Cavilary

Back then you could probably carry a small revolver as well. Don't know how useful it would be if it was small enough to fit in the EDC kit, though.
@urbanknifeguy
@urbanknifeguy 9 месяцев назад
Probably better to carry it in a pocket or holster for ease of deployment. Unless it was one of those tiny single bullet type.
@gardius8151

@@urbanknifeguy I was thinking of one of those Derringer types with 2 barrels, but you are right. A 7 shot .32 semi-auto in pocket carry would be perfect.

150 years ago they had the boker solder knife the Klein English solders barlow knife sailor used and Bradley Union Soldier knives that were first used in the civil war that had no can openers and no all reamer or the kleins knives had marlin spikes bottle openers would not be on them they weren't around back then but some had a cork screw pullers on them also your tin is wrong for the time period they carried Hudson bay style Tabaco tins with a magnified glass on the top of the lid or with out it charred cloth is a some what modern concept they used flit and steals with a sulfur match and smothering tin neutral plants and tinder fungus like Amadou like punk wood they also used Linen Twine flack twine back then not jute or they made there own natural cordage from weeds plants and tree bark back then the other stuff was good but with most of there sowing kits were in a separate waxed canvas rolls with horse hair thread they would of also carried a thing called a hackle comb to separate plant fibers to make cordage the candle was a great touch usually they would of carried natural bees waxs on them to coat there cordage they made to water proof it or make your own candles on the fly and they would of carried all this stuff in a haversack dipped in waxs you asked for our input there is mine other then that good video

This comment will improve your views anyhow. “Jute rope” ??? String…. String … Love the ole Malaysian matches. In regards to knife 150 years ago. One would wear it on their person as customary in many Asian cultures, at least. A form of fixed blade dagger with a sheath in all probability. I’m not too sure about tweezers and cotton wool balls being readily available 150 years ago as commonplace.
@urbanknifeguy
@urbanknifeguy 9 месяцев назад
Technically this string is made of Jute, hence Jute string. Based on my research, it seems that cotton wool and tweezers were readily available at that time. But am unsure if they were affordable by the masses.

I don't quite understand why you want to use steel wool instead of a simple charred cloth...
@urbanknifeguy
@urbanknifeguy 4 месяца назад
There is both charred cloth and steel wool in this kit. So there is a redundancy.
