The amount of high handicaps that wouldn’t be happy landing over 25ft from the hole on a par 3 is incredible including myself playing of 8 .. nice 9 holes and lesson learnt 👏
Currently a 4 hcp trying to get to the next level (playing casually once a week). I've noticed that if I can at least keep the ball on the golf course from the tee, I shoot low rounds around par. I'm an iron player so driver swing is really hard for me. I got some really good tips around course management from this video as well, especially about front pins, I'm tired of ripping them off the green. Subbed!!
The quality of golf always shows up on par 3's. Loved the 2nd. When you said inside on your TracMan equivalent you would hit what 52 degree, but in those conditions you hit a 9 iron, I said to myself, Hmm, this boy is good. Then I think a birdie on the other par 3? Yes, this boy isn't just talking a good game. He can play. Most impressive was having the wife and "child" with you and still maintaining your concentration. I liked the pacing off of putts and chips. You definitely believe in your aim point so keep it up. It works for you. Wow. Winter golf 3 under for 9.
138 approach to a par 5 green??? That’s nuts! I average 287 off the tee, and my average approach into a par 5 is 190+. I’ve gotta go to the UK to lower my handicap.
Dam, the quality in you're videos has shot up sharply, well done Josh. also how have you managed to get round Sandown with seeing only one group, always rammed when i go there even in winter lol also if you're Mrs ever gets board of holding the camera and you need anyone to hold the camera for you while you're playing local then give me a shout.
Great video! Can see the footprints on that green! 😂 got to love winter league. Josh do you work in the gym with weights and fitness aimed at improving strength for golf?
@@dustymcgrath8330Rahm is indeed a plus 6. People don’t understand this concept very well. U put Rahm on a normal weekend golf course he’s not shooting 61 every day. He’s Gona average 66 or so. The difference is if you put this guy or your local +6 on pga tour conditions he becomes a 4. It looks like this Plus 6 on normal course shoots 69 often Rahm shoots 65 often Plus 6 on pga tour course shoots 76 often Rahm still shoots 65 often. If you want to beat John Rahm your best chance is on a very easy golf course where it becomes a putting contest and the course conditions hurt him. If you want Rham to beat you by 15 you play him at a us open course.
@@jwild5360Disagree. Look at what is happening in Columbia right now. That is what it would look like if Rahm played a 6200-6500 normal course every day. He would regularly shoot 60-62. He would shred you on short and long course it wouldn’t matter.
@@Gzaaa brother I play with these guys on a regular basis I know what they shoot at this venue and that venue. There’s nothing incorrect about it. I just played an even lt with G wood Fowler and 35 other tour players. I know it 110 percent. It’s not just the length it’s the crap conditions that slow you down from making putts. 6200 yards isn’t your standard weekend golf course. Most standard weekend courses are still 6900 to 7100 yards. 6200 yards with tour like conditions yes low 60s often. 6850 yards with normal crap greens it’s just not happening very often.
Assuming this was Friday the 26th? Was a lovely day down in Hampshire and I too nipped out for an afternoon round. Didnt look anything like your round though. +17 for me. Was an old guy (mid 80s at least) behind me who talked to me every chance he got to tell me about his previous rounds and how he just did on the last hole. Assumed he was lonely so invited him to play with me after the 2nd. Made my round worse, but hopefully he got more out of it. Cheers.
Throw a little score card template for description of the holes being played and your score to par. Its nice to see the transition from sim to course. It's always a different beast with lie angles when playing for real. Great flow in the video otherwise.
I think the difference in a 6 handicap and a scratch player is short game. A 6 is a very good player, but a scratch gets up and down many more times and makes more putts and less three putts.
At what point in your game did you transition from playing the bump and runs with pw 9 8 7 to playing 60* around the greens? Did you always play lofted around the greens? Do you lean more toward lofted vs bump/run? I feel like the ratio is opposite for higher handicappers like myself. More pitch and bumps, 58 rarely...whereas lower handicap its like always 60 and almost rarely a bump and run.
So for me I have always been used to my 60 and how it reacts off the face + total runouts etc. This is a great topic and made me think of a video comparing bump n runs wiht various clubs!
@@joshoddy thanks for the reply. Ive been watching a lot of dan grieve's videos and for the amateur/weekender, he talks about consistency and the different types of shots around the greens. So ive been trying to not go directly to my highest lofted wedge and play various shots with it...and instead change the variation by changing clubs. And this may be skewed because of media coverage, but majority of the time, pros play high lofted wedges and almost never bump and run... You do however see it a little more in the champions tour though. Anyhow, i myself am trying to groove that simple yet efficient swing to consistently be in the 80s this year...maybe 70s next year.
Haha no he wouldn’t. With the reduced air density he would be nuking it even further. Not to mention the better greens would actually work to his advantage. He would still easily be a + hcp
Great round mate, and your outdoor rounds get tons of views because sim players want to see how your sim handicap holds up outdoors, so keep posting those outdoor rounds when you have good weather.
Lovely work Josh and thanks for all the effort you put into this mate. You have a very understanding missus too (and a cute pooch). Cheers and all the best from a couple of golf mad lads (me and my son) in Sydney - Dave and young Will. PS. You need to play some golf here one day!
New follower!! So much fun watching a stress free -2 in winter conditions and great hearing your thoughts throughout the round. Looking forward to watching more!
Got a sub off me. Nice to see good play in difficult conditions. It's barely worth even looking at lines currently on the greens where I play. Just hit it at the hole and worry about pace. Gets frustrating when you have a really good ball striking day and you wonder how good the score could have been on a greens where you can putt meaningfully. You can have wild 6 shot fluctuations just based on fortunate or unfortunate holing out from inside 6 foot. We really should be used to it in the UK but as each winter passes, it seems to get longer to get to spring.
I feel your pain! The only thing I’d worry about with putting is make sure your start line is good, that’s it! Green reading before summer hits and then you’re good to go!
The +6 in the title pulled me in to watch, definitely a solid player and in winter conditions to post -3 in 9 is very good, like the step count on putts been doing the same for years and documenting as well, cheers
Hi mate first video of yours ive watched. Genuine question what handicap are you? The only reason i ask is im off 2 at the moment but watching you play id say confidently i play to your standard of golf so im always intrigued by what handicap other good players like yourself are in comparison to myself 👍
@joshoddy I've been as low as scratch before but I've had a long lay off for over 10 yrs only been back playing for 1 yr so along way to go for me yet and I'm 44 now so a million miles away from my prime.
@@joshoddy Come over and play some rounds here! I live in Stavanger. Got some decent courses here. Stavanger GC and Sola GC are the two best courses ⛳️🏌️
Boy, that LAB putter has a satisfying sound doesn't it? BTW I'm on the same latitude as you guys are, but it's just been pissing like crazy here. My club is SOGGY...
