I think Simon shot him in the foot when dishing out the roles/images of each of the lads in the band. You've got the womaniser (Harry, despite being so far from the truth), the cute Irish one (Niall), the mysterious one (Zayne), the Noel/Liam Gallagher character (Louis, again sooooo far from the truth)... All pretty easy images to work with for a solo career, although I love how Harry Styles has managed to totally go against his womaniser image and be best example of a man who says F you to toxic masculinity... I digress... Poor Liam was marketed as the sensible one, the Dad of the group. He was the one who gave sensible answers in interviews, who kept the conversation going when the rest descended into chaos, the one who kept a level head and held it all together. I imagine it's hard to figure out who you actually are and how to rebrand yourself as something more appealing/exciting as a solo artist. Liam is a decent guy, he just lost his way for a while but seems to be doing much better now 🙏
