I really liked what you took from this movie. Usually I don't watch all the talk after watching reactions of movies that are my favorites. I really enjoyed your talk about the movie after you watched as much as seeing you react as you watched it. Great video. When the two old lady sea monsters reveled themselves, the priest gasped and fainted. The other old woman in town accepted them for the same reason Massimo accepted and defended Luca ans Alberto. The woman were already the old sea sea monster ladys friend and knew them as nice people. The overall acceptance was a little too rushed, but it still works just fine, at least for me. I am glad that you casually mentioned sexuality as a possible difference that does not make someone a bad person. I happen to be a senior citizen that is also gay. Far too many of us feel afraid to let people, even family or best friends know who we are out of fear. My parents also divorced, and my dad basically abandoned my brothers and I. Nothing is worse for a kid to know his parent doesn't want him. The scene where Alberto tells Luca what the marks on the wall meant hit me hard. I knew exactly how he felt. Abandonment issues are super difficult for especially for a kid. That's is why Alberto is too jealous. He is afraid of loosing his best friend. In the end he wins basically in every way. He gains the father figure he needs, and he still keeps his best friend. Sure they are seperated for a while, bur Alberto knows he will be back next summer. He has made his amends with Giulia, so he has two friend coming back nest summer. He knows he had no reason to be jealous because nobody is going to abandon him. Alberto is actually the one that has grown the most in this story. He has learned that people can love him just as he is. The love of a good friend is the purist form of love that there is. He has learned that letting go a little of Luca, and not trying to control him, is how they can always be true friends. He has aslo realized just how good of a friend Giulia really is. All of these are reasons why Alberto can be truly happy, and grow further. What Luca got, and his growth as a character was great, but Alberto is who actually gained the most.
