I think the lesson of Luca is more relevant now that it was 20 years ago. Maybe it was back then too but with what’s been going on in the world I think it’s great that Pixar made this film because it allows people who are different to know that they can’t be torn down because society will accept them eventually

I had a similar struggle. I felt like God was calling me to do live streaming and content creation to bring love and compassion to the internet, but I was terrified that I was wrong and that I would screw up. I finally talked to my mom and dad about it and they told me to just do it lol I LOVE it. Praying for you Brian!

This was a definitely a pickup for me after Raya (in my viewing it was mostly underwhelming). I like it’s contained setting. It felt much like a Studio Ghibli film and I definitely appreciated the little moments. I loved the message of dealing with anxiety and uncertainty by doing such a simple thing as “Silenzio Bruno”. I enjoy coming of age films that are just a slice of life.

As a Christian myself, I can say I empathize with your struggle. I'm not perfect by any means, but I can say from personal experience that the Holy Spirit often leads us in directions we don't expect and sometimes we don't even know it. For example, I teach a Sunday school class and my church, and it has become a bigger blessing than I ever thought it would. My 7 year old loves Luca. She has been having some bullying and anxiety issues and she really related to when Giulia says about being underdogs and weirdos. She’s beginning to realise having quirks is ok and it’s special. She loves watching your videos every night before bed because they make her really happy. Thank you! 😊

Luca is definitely one of my new comfort movies I noticed a few people posting about it on TikTok and thought it looked interesting so I checked it out and ever since I’ve watched it at least once a day if not multiple times. One day I just had it playing all day. I love that it’s such a simple fee good movie and I love the message it has. I also love the Silencio Bruno because I tend to over think and panic and constantly des with it and since watching it I’ve been trying to use silencio Bruno on my anxiety (also helps to have a name for my anxiety 😂) and it’s not really working at the moment but I’ve just got to keep working at it because it’s not going to fix or “cure” my anxiety over night it’ll help but not straight away. Anyway I just love this movie and I’m so glad it exists. Tangled, the princess and the frog and the Aristocats are my comfort movies my go to movies and im so glad I can add Luca to that list.

Yay, I’m so happy you talked about this! I was worried about Luca because I’ve heard mixed reviews about it not being anything like Pixar. When I finished it, I was GLAD it wasn’t like any other Pixar film. Sometimes, you just need a go with the flow buddy movie to cleanse the palatte. Also, it really feels like childhood in a movie (especially if you are a misfit)which I have not seen in a bit and it feels nice to have a movie like that.I’m glad you are Silenzio-ing your own Brunos and are trying new things, it really keeps the channel fresh!

As also a person of faith, I completely feel this way to my core and with my art. As a Christian, it's getting harder and harder because what the Bible says for me, is Biblical fact and you get hate for it. it's hard, but the successes here on Earth are temporary, but being a beacon for Christ brings eternal rewards. Hollywood seeks to bring and put others on a pedestal, I stay away from the pedestal cause that pedestal, in my life, is for God only. Earth is temporary, but Heaven is forever. It's nice to know there is another light in this dimming world

What makes me cry is that I can basically feel Raya's concern about her dad throughout the movie, even though she's dealing with all of these other problems yk. Also it makes me tear up every time he calls her "dewdrop"
I am probably the only person who wants to have a Disney/Pixar character going through life with a visual impairment. This is because I have Albinism. I have a lot of trouble seeing things. But I am still able to do most of the things a normal person does, but I'm alienated because of a disability. My whole life has been proving to others that I am more than just a legally blind person. Might not sound too interesting to others, but my life is an adventure in itself. Also, common misconceptions with Albinism. 1. Our eyes are not red. We have lack of pigment in our eyes, so the most common eye color for people with Albinism is a light blue. The red color comes from the sun or other light reflected of of the back of our eyes. It's the exact same with animals. 2. The term "Albino". Yes. That is one term for Albinism, but it is offensive for a lot of us. "Albino" has a tone that is a label. It alienates the person you're calling "Albino" and it makes them feel like their disability is a crime and they don't belong. The proper way to say someone has Albinism is with the term PWA or Person With Albinism. It is more of a descriptive term. I would love to see a movie made for people with visual impairments. "Blind" doesn't mean that they are in complete darkness. And people who are completely blind still get around and live a pretty normal life. Just with some complications. Same with me, I have low vision. Like, really bad vision. Yet, I have many tools I use to live a normal life. I am doing advanced math, physics, and engineering classes in High School, and I'm also learning to drive. But it would be extremely cool to have a movie based on living with visual disabilities, and also showing others that we are still normal people and have normal lives. And informing people on these is really good! Plot maybe could be a group of kids or adults at a camp or something, and one of them has a visual disability. Not completely blind, but still has trouble seeing far away things and small print like me. They must try to find a way to fit into the group and prove to the others that they can do what "normal" people can do. And us, having to change and adapt to do activities and challenges that is difficult. Using tools that we have to our advantage. They are able to teach others about their visual disability and they can see how we live our lives, and come to accept us. I know it's a long comment, but it is something I really want to see. Because PWAs are always misrepresented in movies and TV. And I want us to be shown how we truly are. Thanks for reading this if you've made it this far. This movie probably won't happen for years, but it is something that needs to happen. One of my other favorite short films is about guide dogs, it is called Pip and it is with Southeastern Guide Dogs. Shows the training and responsibility of a guide dog if one is needed. Definitely recommend watching it. I have a dog from that program, not a true guide dog, but one that didn't pass the final test. They ended up giving her to me. But please. Some movie company, make a movie with ACCURATELY shown characters with visual disabilities! This world needs it!
I am planning to write a book about a person with Albinism. However, the stakes would be quite high as some characters including the villian would be horrible to this character. However, this character who would be a he makes friends along the way and ends up standing up and being proud of who he is. Also I love the story Pip and you seem really kind. You really deserve more likes and comments.
I’m currently in high school and in a program for film and I think this would be an amazing idea for a short film. I’m working on a few projects right now but maybe sometime in the future I could film something like this. I think representation is so so important and this is a really good way to show it.
I'm legally blind / vision-impaired. I'd love to see films and books with characters who deal with vision-impairment / legally blind / low-vision. (The buzzwords change but it always confuses normally-sighted people.) -- I've seen some criticism of how too often in stories, albinos are made the villains somehow, which isn't fair or true. It would be good to have people with albinism as characters too. Yes, there are albinos of all races, black, white, etc. I wonder why albinos wouldn't be shown as heroes or wise ones just as often as villains. And I wish blind and vision-impaired people would be shown realistically, with both the skills and difficulties we face, and the need for friends, support, and allies, plus accessibility in computers and mobility and public spaces (buildings, signage, etc.)

As someone who is part of the LGBTQIA+ community, this film really hit home for me in multiple ways. Like the relationship between a queer person and their family, between them and society and also in terms of accepting themself. The only unrealistic thing was how quickly society accepted them at the end, I wish people irl were that open-minded and kind. 🌟🏳️🌈 Love hearing your thoughts on the film. Next to Raya and The Mitchell's vs The Machines, this is one of my favourite films of the year. 😊💖
I loved Luca and agree the character, Luca was pretty relatable. However, I disagree that Luca is unlike any other Pixar film. In fact, my gut reaction to watching Luca was, “Wow, this reminds me so much of a classic Pixar film”. It just had the spirit of and general plot similarities (deep theme(s), tear worthy moments, happy ending, etc.) to a classic Pixar film, I feel. I was surprised that it didn’t get darker like newer Pixar films, but that made it all that much more similar to a classic film, in my opinion. Although, there was no big adventure like you described, I do think two sea monsters trying to survive in a human city where sea monsters are hunted for fun is kind of a big, epic adventure in itself.

Hey Brian, Christian here too, and I know exactly what you mean. Fighting fear is a battle many of us fight in some capacity every day. It's crazy how much boils down to fear, even a lot of regular life stress at its core is a fear of failure or consequences. End of 2020 and the beginning of 2021 this was huge for me. It's important to really learn how to give these things to God and realize that He'll take care of you even if you do mess up or things go wrong. There's a lot of freedom in that. I'm still learning how to live in that all the time and I'm really glad to hear you are too.

Your life is not god's life, and stopping or changing direction if you need to isn't bad faith. You can appreciate the gifts you have without constantly using and increasing your output from them. Now everytime I have a fear about doing something, regardless of my fear screaming in the back of my head, I say yes. I'm slowly getting over it, but it definitely makes a difference. Brian, I have yet to see this film but man, this hits home. When my own anxiety is overwhelming I try to think about how apprehensive Moses was ("I am slow of speech and tongue") even after the signs God showed him he would do in Egypt and all the good that came after Moses stepped forward in faith. This plus a picture of Christ reaching below the water to pull me (or you or the Apostle Peter) back up when we feel like we are drowning remind me to rely on Him. I'm glad you took time for yourself, gained courage, are seeking help, and are back to share the light He gave you with us! Ignore Pixar's hidden cameras and enjoy!
Hi Brian! Idk how to put this into words but here goes... I can totally relate to what you expressed, I also can see soooo mucho of myself on Luca, even the little detiles like calling Alberto "sir" when they just met, even though, Alberto is only 1 year older than Luca. I tend to do that and even sometimes with people I already know and we have a casual treat. And just like Luca, as a kid I tended to be scared of many things, and even today I keep being afraid of change, and although I've had make some progress with a therapist, I always had this reminder in my head that I would fail or things won't work out and many other stuff... Luca was a film that really catched my attention from the moment I knew about it's production, when I finally whatched it I was so impacted of how much I enjoyed it, not only cause it was funny or entetaining but because of how much I can relate to it, and how it gave me an advice, a simple little phrase "Silenzio Bruno!", It's just like IDK... Well I'm a fellow christian too and belive that God put this movie in my life to give me a hand with anxiety and inscurity cause this two-word phrase it's just a huge relif to that reminder of fear when I'm about to embrcae a change in my life. I'm not saying that everything it's great and peacefull now, I still have a lot to work out but form now on I'm going to embrace thing diffferently all thanks to the "Silenzio bruno" Man! The annoying voice of Bruno is one that exists in a lot of us and too many of us allow this voice to drown out the call of our inner voice to do what we love and put ourselves out there. I heard this quote recently by a thinker called Florence Scovel Shinn - “Fear is the disbelief of God.” Or rather, believing in Bruno, putting so much stock in Bruno is like shoving God, the Universe itself, to the side. And framing it that way really diminishes the power of Bruno in my mind. 😊 You’re tremendously talented but more than that, you have so much heart and and positivity. Luca was relatable for me because I’ve had friendships problems and had to deal with disagreements and opinions but I remember that It’s ok to have rough times in friendships you just need to keep moving on and trying because all friendships have there rough patches
