What a survival expert carries into the wild 

POCKET BELLOWS!!! On one particular multi day hike with my bro when we were in our early 20s, we were setting up camp for the night and he was getting the fire started when he just dropped flat on his face. He had been a bit dehydrated, a bit exhausted, and was blowing hard on the fire to get it going in a very wet environment. He could easily have fallen backward and hit his head on a rock, MILES away from help and no cell phone service. A pocket bellows GREATLY reduces the amount of effort required to ignite coals and could help avoid that scenario from ever playing out for anyone. Just imagine if that happened to someone who is out ALONE!

1 thing, I would add to the signalling pouch. Is a chem light stick or 2. They take up very little space and serve multiple purposes.

I have an awesome go bag. Antibiotics, emergency blanket, knife with fire starter on it, D batteries with steel wool (makes fire), matches, lint, ropes for building and repelling, bleach for cleaning water, bandages, antibiotic ointments, burn gel, alcohol, peroxide, NSAIDs, painkillers, cigarettes (for joy), high powered C02 bb pistol (for noise and small animals), electrolyte powder mixes, tourniquets, vitamins, fishing line and compass. A few other items too but this is what I can think of. I need a wind up radio and maybe a small tarp. Would love to hear ideas as well that’s not in this vid since I’m new to this

Highly recommend the pocket bellow. I thought it was gimmicky/nerdy back in the day, but since using one a lot I definitely love it. Cheap, portable, highly effective.

Might consider switching from triple antibiotic to high concentration bacitracin. Much lower incidence of allergic reaction(particularly if you share with students). And if a patient does have antibiotic allergies, petroleum jelly is a great alternative. So research shows petroleum jelly to be just as effective in wound healing as triple antibiotic, but I will admit I'm still split on that decision.

I actually carry most of this stuff in my normal backpacking setup. Its all lightweight and my pack base weight is still only 10 lbs! All real good choices you got there! For water I like my sawyer mini more than tablets. Though I just got one of those grayl bottles and I like how quick and easy it is. It does add weight though. Regarding fire tinder, BTW. Dont waste money buying premade tinder online (for those who do). Dental jams and some wax (candle or even crayons). $20 or less you can make a few hundred at a time! The ones I make have a 6 minute burn time!

Great information but almost impossible to see. Next time either do full sun or full shade so the camera can expose correctly. Otherwise a small flex fill for bounced fill goes a long way to making your content actually viewable and not underexposed. Nice kit, you prompted. Me to by the fire bellows! !

Hey Kevin, I was actually just watching your EDC video that you did with BladeHQ. Just curious, when heading into the woods, are those EDC items still in your pockets or part of your kit, even though you have some redundancies covered with your blades and possibles pouch? One thing that I found interesting was choosing to carry a normal Bic lighter in the possibles pouch, but carry the Exotac’d one in the pocket for EDC. Any particular reasons you choose to do it this way? Thanks!👍🏻

That’s not exactly a survival kit. It’s more like a convenience kit. Too much stuff that should be in other places. Other stuff is useless. Remember: habitat (heat and cold will kill you first), water (3 days and you are suffering), nutrition (you can survive for a week without food), getting found (isn’t that the point?). I’ve followed these principles for four decades ever since Ranger School.

Heres the problem with these training courses. Every former tier 1 operator and survivalist out there has a rifle, pistol course. Taking a look at these, the vast majority of them have a barrier to entry so high that youll only be training tier 1 operators and survivalists anyway. Come to my tactical shotgun course. Bring your own ammo and thatll be $5000 up front and a month away from your day job. Oh and by the way, you should have already done your preliminary homework and bought that Benelli M4, because thats the only gun I train my students on. It better have a $300 surefire light and a $200 sling. Speaking as a guy who has owned several rather expensive guns Im not saying its impossible. Im just saying you arent training any decent swath of the population. I want to see a warfighter who says, hey, come to my training course. Its affordable and by the way, I dont care if you bring Lee Enfield. Ill teach you how to retake your country or defend yours. The problem is that none of these people are going to be the vast majority of fighters in the worst case scenario because youre training people who have the income for private security or a bunker and only training them on firearms that you need a second mortgage to own. If you want to take a pistol, rifle and shotgun course for defense in this modern day, you would need to already own a Benelli M4, Daniel Defense AR15 with all the trimmings, and an optics equipped Shadow Systems Glock. You would need $5000 for each course and 3 months of your time away from work. Before they would even let you in the door. These courses are a scam, and I say that as a guy who already has night vision, armor kit, military training and several expensive guns. But Im not representative of the average American and neither are anyone who attends these courses. If you want training, join the military. Their recruitment numbers are low anyway.

If you can watch a 17 minute video amd walk away with ONE new idea, ita worth 10x that amount of time, and maybe your life. I carry two thick construction trash bags, but it never dawned on me to make a beanbag air gap out of it.
