The guy with the Supra is my customer. He was ready to sell that car less than 6 months ago because he couldn't get it to 100ft without it making stupid moves to the wall so he brought it to me for a complete 4 link plotting and set up. So i'm stoked for him but good to see you getting the wagon figured out too as we have an old mutual customer with Will Stevenson. So I follow you also to see how you're program and Tom Bailey's is coming along.
Question for you Sir. How did you gain the knowledge in order to tune (I’m guessing) a variety suspension geometry’s? Would love to know :) God Bless you and your family.
@@xprettylightsx3781 over 35 years working in the industry. I made it a point to learn about suspension tuning back when I first got started in drag racing.
@@AwestruckMy1well, I advise you first, don’t race, second if you decide to race, don’t add turbo, or nitrous., last option peel your wallet open and hire a crew chief to do it.. but with “motor sports” in general half of the hobby is turning wrenches..
I know no one is perfect but knowing even Steve can cross thread a plug makes me feel better about my novice skills. If it can happen to Steve I don't feel as frustrated when it happens to me.
Nick do You realize which engine and the power level each of those 'Import' vehicles have; Starlet, Mazda PU, 6, RX-7, etc. ? => They use a Mazda 13B, twin rotor, 1.3 L, ~79 c.i. [65 cc,~39.5 c.i. /rotor] turbocharged reaching 1800wHP -> 1800-200 lbs. -> 6.5 -> 6.2-.3 sec ET, 210-25 MPH 1/4 mile !! -> the quickest 4 cylinder at World Cup 2022 also achieves 6.4-.5 sec ET 1/4 mile ! ->the Red Supra from Ryan Sammut Racing, achieves 2200 wHP, obviously with a 2JZ engine, 3.0 L, 2.36 sec, ET, 223 MPH 1/4 at that Import vs Domestic event at US 131. The key is power/weight -> also lower weight means less torque, forces, thus components are more durable too. Sincerely
@@newtonfirefly3584 This is the sort of crap that morons who have never turned a wrench let alone gone drag racing post online. ANY car can be made to be damn quick, and power is easy to make the trick is getting it to hook up because we don't race dynos. Also, Wankel engines are claimed to be smaller in displacement than they are for one reason: Japanese Taxes. The Mazda 12B was actually a 3.4 liter if you calculated the total air it would pump at 100% VE in two engine revolutions, like you would for a standard piston engine. Their "1.3" is actually a 3.9.
I think the point he was making is that entire starlet race program probably cost less than one of Steve's engines, and was right on his bumper with 1/3 the displacement. That inline 6 supra was kicking the crap out of Steve's PBs consistently. We all love the wagon, but those cars are impressive. No need to get wadded up. It's ok to like cool racecars.
Good to see you always acknowledge the Good Lord... None of what you do is possible without Him! Perhaps an Aviation maintenance requirement should be used on the Wagon?! Safety wire on all fittings that are handled frequently.
Might be best to switch your trans fittings to steel from aluminum. That 500 deg rapid temp swing might be what caused it to get loose. Aluminum grows way faster than steel so it would be more prone to issues.
If possible, titanium is an even better choice. We use that on my GT3 car where ever we can as not only is it light, it moves a lot less than both steel and aluminium. When we check everything from exhaust header bolts to high temp hose fittings, to wheel center lock nuts, titanium is always super consistent. For this reason AF Corse also assembles our transmissions using Ti fasteners whenever possible.
You can see it in Steves eyes that he wants to make the pass…. But the wise words of “I need to trust my wife’s judgement” That toxic masculinity will have you make that pass, but thankfully he listen to the people around him and make the right call. A great example for us to see that it is OK to say no. Great job Steve
"once again I have a car that will never rust".....LOL...LOL....great SM quote....!...happy 4 ya Steve....car sounds tight....you will get'm next time...!....I bet that Starlet weights a 1/3 of what the wagon weights...!..?...
Steve Morrison you’re the best kick ass and dominate everybody… I watch every one of your videos and you’re incredibly intelligent and so is your son keep up the great content I learn a lot
Not pulling up to take the last light in case dude red lighted or broke when you are good to go, but dripping was a classy move. I use your demeanor as a teachable moment with my sons, you are always a man of dignity.
Some really quick cars there eh ? When Steve said "got to do better" i couldnt help but think of the scene when Gilbert leaves Arnie in the tub and gets yelled at by Mom, and Arnie repeats her saying " Yeah Gilbert, you got to do better, i could have drownded" great movie, amazing acting
Hey buddy love the content. I drive a 10 second 81 Malibu wagon bracket car. Just a quick suggestion we all forget about. I was an f-16 mechanic and we used mechanics wire all twisted up so if one piece tried to loosen up, the other piece would have to tighten up. It’s fail proof.
Those are the days at the track that makes us keep doing it 😂.. 25% of the time everything works out perfectly .. sometimes I just want to take my streetcar to the track run 10s and go back to when things were easy
Steve that is definitely the kind of weekend at the track that you needed. Even if you didn't win to have a good time getting down track without breaking anything was needed. That win was icing on the cake great job in getting the car down track.
Be the first racer on your block to build a trans cover. Seen to many videos of trans lines loose even a crack in a trans. Spraying fluid and or hot mist. Every one of them would have saved the driver from a spray job. It could be 10 inches above the trans so not to induce heat. No it is a big deal.
If you use Aviation AN fittings and safety wire them, nothing will vibrate loose, just pain in the arse to work on things when you got to cut safety wire and rewire when your done fixing things.
Did Clark and Kyle not run this event? This is a real interesting journey you are on here. In small aircraft, there is a lot of engine vibration, so important fittings are wirelocked. Have you considered doing something like that? And remember, those little things you were up against are half the weight of the wagon, so they may have a higher power to weight ratio than the wagon.
You EARNED that one Brother! You certainly deserved it as well. Your Commitment and Confidence along with Persistence, Perseverance and Endurance finally paid off. I Pray for those things daily. Hope it stays that way for a while! I like you all the time. I REALLY like you when things are going well and you're winning!!! As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
WooHoo! I've been waiting for this video all weekend. Any weekend you can put the car away after a weekend of racing without anything breaking is a good weekend. Coming home with a trophy is just a bonus.
And don’t forget the $500K needed to get to that point, and a couple hundred more thousand for a tow rig and tools and crew and their cars and hotels campers etc
Steve Great video! You know it's Steve Morris when he refers to 35psi of boost at the start of the video, as "only 35psi of boost" 🤭 Good work Steve (and team) and awesome to see the Wagon back in action with no major hiccups! Thanks for sharing and even more luck for the next time! 🙂 PS awesome to see Dewey in the background getting some love from his fans 🐕
well done Steve you finally deserve a couple of passes with minimal problems well done i just love the fact you never give up you blame no one fore things that go wrong but your self and for pushing that big wagon at speeds Hurd of for such a big car goes to show you are a master engine builder and any one would be proud to have one all maid in house plus all the wile pushing out engines for others cars just short of amazing and the horse power if just insane thanks for your down to earth expectations of the how it works your not afraid to sheer 99% pf this with us thanks BIG Thanks from me Cheers
Being able to head home after a mostly successful weekend of racing & only need to do some pressure washing, routine maintenance & plot improvements is a big win, overall. Good to see you get next to 1.0's & not breakin' things.
Hey Steve, The SUPER 9 1/2 lock-up converter will allow U to leave in the 1.10 range, keep parts from breaking, And the SMX CAN PUT THE POWER TO THE GROUND INSTEAD OF HAVING A SLIPPING CONVERTER!!! Anyone can get a lightweight car to 60ft but when U have A 3900LB ANVIL TO MOVE THEN THATS WHEN IT GETS SERIOUS!!!!! I FOLLOW NO ONE BUT STEVE MORRIS!!!! I wish I had a PTC CONVERTER FOR U TO TRY!!! Don't get me wrong I really like Neil Chance converters!!! Keep the Great Content coming Steve! I have the upmost RESPECT for U Steve Morris and family!
Renewed subscription didn't realize it had been removed anyway a Big Hell Ya!!!!!! I was so freaking Happy you did so good that car weighs twice what them rice rockets weigh you did so awesome Steve. Mad respect for the miss's no point taking risk you are an amazing man with an amazing Family and wife/Freinds "Clarke" son "Kyle' many more great people Great to watch so much love. From my Family to yours Steve God Bless be safe and keep on truckin!!!!!
I was thinking in the beginning of the video "Didn't Steve say something about a transmission cover a while ago? If a hose with hot oil comes loose in there, it could turn to disaster quickly.." And.... Please, fab something up. Otherwise, great driving. Nothing broken. Upgrades paid off.
Safety wire tying on critical bolts and fittings is standard operating procedure in aviation applications. I'm looking for the Dewey shirt, congrats on a great weekend.
Steve possibly tap and thread a set screw on the side of your transmission fittings so once tight . Tighten set screw preventing the line coming loose.👍
Met you while you were at byron. You signed my america. Flag that I will be hanging in my new shop. Thank you for being such a good dude hope to meet you again!
Tough break Steve... you're taking away a good day of racing, fun, not breaking a single thing, some bucks/trophy & most importantly: a happy wife! Thanx, J
Nobody gets a free pass in racing...... Your success stems not only from your innovation but from hard work and determination. Congratulations. Well deserved.
Hell yeah, that's what I'm talking about! The Wagon rips and sounds damn good doing it! It's only a matter of time before it's dipping into the 5s.🙏🏼👍🏼💯🇬🇺
A trick I learned back in the late 70's when education was still REAL is to take anything with a thread and turn it backwards until you hear or feel the lead thread fall into the groove where threads start. I have NEVER cross threaded another bolt, spark plug or fitting since.
