There have been less than 20 Asian players that have been in the NBA throughout History. And some had successful careers of consistency, while others not so much. So let's go over the careers of every single Asian player that has seen the NBA court in their basketball career.

Carmelo thought it was his team and you could see he struggled watching Lin lead the Knicks in his absence, I think he was resentful of the excitement that Lin was generating. I really feel like if Carmelo was ok sharing the spotlight with Lin it would have been great for the Knicks and amazing for Lin's career.

A few things with the "Asian" players: 1. When mentioning Jalen Green, I could also think of Corey Gaines and Robert Swift, both quarter Japanese with grandmother being Japanese, and if going by representing country of the partial ancestor, Kyle Anderson is in the mix. 2. Even as an Asian (quarter German-American, rest Japanese) guy myself, I'd hold of those who are mixed, and think of players that look like Yao, Yi, Linsanity, and Yuta Watanabe first. It's not that I don't consider the mixed Asian players Asian, but it's the generalization and stereotypes that comes with people that look like Yao/Yuta/Jeremy in the western media (orchestra, smart at math and good grades, unlinked to athletics, etc). 3. And there's also Middle East/India (also Asians) players in Hamed Haddadi, Satnam Singh, Sim Bhullar too. I forget that the area is also Asia. As a fan, I just hope someone that look like Yao (or full Middle Eastern Asian player) not only gets a mix tape from high school level, but some hype to be a legit lottery pick in a near future - because it has been some time.

As for your third point: It still boggles my mind how Americans seemingly only think “Asian” people only come from China, Japan, or Korea. India, Russia, Middle Asia, and the Middle East are all very distinct from East Asians, and very large regions in their own; yet, Americans never consider them in any regard (not even the American government census). It’s stupidity. Enes Kanter isn’t even on this list.

I think part-Asian players who grew up in the US should be in a separate category. The sad truth is that what makes Asian NBA players noteworthy is because of overcoming obstacles in their basketball path related to culture and/or prejudices based on their Asian appearances. Some of the part-Asian players listed here grew up in a pre-dominantly American culture and do not look Asian at all. That's a significant difference compared to the Asian players who had to fight uphill battles against one or both of those factors to get on their HS roster, get scholarship offers, get NBA attention, get NBA mins and get some NBA team to be willing to invest time in their development. Good example of how Asian looks can hold you back in the basketball world is Jeremy Lin being the captain of his state champ HS team who upset powerhouse Mater Dei in the state finals and was named Northern California player of the year yet didn't get a single college scholarship offer. I wouldn't expect UCLA or Duke to call on him at that time but not even a mid-tier D1 school or even a D2 school?

Asian Americans are still highly influenced by Asian culture and their tiger parents in general. So Asian American going into NBA is still very rare because of the culture. For context an average draft class has only 10-15 guys that average more than 10 points a game for more than 2 season in the league. He was a decent NBA player, youre completely understating the fact that he made it in the league. Im not saying he was a super star, Im not saying he was Trae Young before Trae Young, or Kyrie Irving. Im saying he was a decent NBA player for 5 years. Funny story: I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up, and still live, Japanese-American and male. I have had at least TWO people of ALL of these ethnic backgrounds, when I used to (when I was still young) "trying to be able to touch the rim" (I'm 5'10"): "You're a White man. Athletically, that is." TWO people from all of these groups, called me a "White man, athletically:" White, African-American, Asian, Latino, Native American, Middle-Eastern, and East Indian. When I tried to touch the rim (I could get the bottom of the backboard, in my prime--I can barely get net, at 51 in 2024), people of all races would say, "White men can't jump," or when I'd lay the ball in, they'd say, "The White Man's Dunk!"
