I'd imagine it depends what you call a "straight midrange". For me, if it flies dead straight brand new, then I don't want it because it's going to be understable after a few tree hits. I prefer something that barely fades when it's new so that it beats into the perfect straight flyer. For more, the neutron Hex is definitely that disc! Funny enough, my eclipse Hex is much more overstable than all of my neutrons.
@KarstRats
@KarstRats 11 месяцев назад
Ehhhhh. My comet is holding up really well on not changing in how it flies. Its getting puddled its so beat. And it started slightly undertsable but hasnt gotten worse. Just enough that i can oush it as flat as i can down the narrowest tunnels in my area and it tracks well enough to hold the line and not smack the trees.
@TyCampbellTX
@TyCampbellTX 11 месяцев назад
There are definitely exceptions to the rule, but the concept of a disc beating in and becoming more understable isn't really debatable lol that's a pretty well established fact. @@KarstRats

This surprised me so much as a relatively new (and stubborn) player. I packed a DX ROC for its 3 fade for those shots around obstacles but it flyes suuuper straight now and I keep forgetting that. I had no idea discs would beat in like this.

Great video!! I switched from a Champ Mako3 to a Proton Hex about 3 weeks ago, and I'm really glad I made the change! The Mako3 is a great disc, but it's a little deeper than I prefer and I seemed to have a hard time getting a consistent release with it. The Hex is a tiny bit shallower than a Mako3, but it made all the difference for me. If I were going to play a one-disc round, it would be with my Proton Hex!

Thank you so much for this video and this series. I agree that there are a lot of hidden gems out there with flight numbers I wouldn't think about. Considering I don't have the money to try discs I'm not sure of, I really appreciate you're doing this testing to help narrow down the field. I have a slower arm and realize that discs may fly different for me, but I don't feel that takes away from the value of the information you are so freely sharing. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

the straightest disc I have ever tried, was a DX Wombat3. after I lost it, I replaced with a Champion Wombat3 (because I loved it that much) and the champion one turns out to be more understable. last year's DX was truly a 0 0 flight, and only started displaying the -1 0 once it was very very beat in. what's nice about either one though, is they don't take in altitiude like most discs, making them very handy when you need to avoid branches and still make the distance you want.

When I was beginner, dx Wombat3 was the straightest glidiest disc. Laser-straight line (like for your Claymore test). After I lost it, bought a champion Wombat3, and it was more like a - 3 0! Rumor has it that Innova remade the mold. So I'm guessing that, along with the Skeeter, there are some models simply intended for those just starting out and in their very first weeks.

I prefer the MANA by far to my 2 Buzzes (Z and bigZ). And it flies much farther than the Pathfinder. I have it in glow, and my 2 Pathfinders are in Ethos and Aura, which I originally bought for a 0 1 fade, but the Ethos just goes straight or - 1 1 after some use, but with less glide than the Mana.

@Frequenceez.
@Frequenceez. 11 месяцев назад
I have thrown and own many discs are my go-to's for a guaranteed straight flight are my Opto Fuse and Kasta glow Svea, Fuse handles more torque. Throw them on hyzer, and they flip to flat and ride nearly dead straight for the remainder of the flight. Uplink for understable shots, though either the Fuse or Svea can also fill that role. Can't leave out my DD Truth also very straight and will do basically any line you set it on as well as a couple Mako3's. I use my Roc3 for more overstable shots.

I love these and can't wait for whatever is next in the series. That being said, for me the key to a "straight" mid that it has a putter like 0 fade. I understand that such a disc probably will require a bit of hyzer, but to me the Fuse is the only one that has that. Most of the so called straight mids in this one were more or less flex shots that faded back to the middle. Claymore seemed to have that truly straight flight, but maybe it was due to a lowere line which I also prefer.

can't go wrong with a Gold Ice fuse... its my secret weapon in the woods. Mako3 is OK, but seems more like a strong arm disc, vs the finesse of my fuse. I agree, the lack of fade is something to behold. Most fun disc I toss is the pearl tho. Its so stupid flippy and glides so far. It either works and looks like magic, or is a total disaster. Fun times in the woods!

Great video. For me I find that if I want a fission disc to fly like the numbers straight out of the box, I need to go 165 gram max. The max weight fission definitely have more stability for sure, but like you mentioned, they do tend to beat in quicker and hold that sweet spot once you've done so. Surprised the eclipse was the straightest for you guys, even over the nuetron. Super interesting.

If you can get one, the MVP Detour is a very straight flying disc. Maybe a touch on the understable side but for me it's super straight. I would also say Fission is very different depending on weight. Max weight Fission is more stable than lightweight Fission in general. A Fission Hex in the 165g weight range will be pretty straight from my experience. Great video.

How far are you throwing these discs? If it was mentioned, I missed it. Even tho Roc3 has the numbers 5 4 0 3 and the Metal Warrior 5 5 0 2, i feel like the Metal Warrior is more stable than the Roc3. I still love innova but i really think every brand should do a better job on the flight numbers.

These videos are great but I just want to point out that if you pause on release, you can see your player is throwing almost every single shot on slight hyzer. Don't get me wrong, that is my most comfortable release angle as well, but it does have an effect on flight. He is basically making every disc slightly more overstable, where the -1 turn is being used to just flip to flat, and you are seeing a more pronounced fade. You should consider this for future videos.

honestly Caleb OATed that Star Mako 3 bringing a minimum of 70 degrees hyzer into the powerpocket then flattening it to below 15 before release, OF COURSE its going to flip. He looked less "wild" with the champion mako 3 though. I personally bag an opto fuse for that slot which would no doubt turn over for Caleb but goes 280´ dead flat for me on 60-70% power, the key is a rear-dominant grip for finicky precision discs like those which means the ringfinger and pinky are the ones gripping the rim and forming the pivotpoint with middlefinger+thumb providing angle control and indexfinger sitting on the outside of the rim or just below it.

I’ve had a very different experience with all the fission discs I’ve thrown. But I think that could be related to an issue I think this video has, release angle. Players are getting straight flights by hyzer-flipping a less stable disc or flat releasing an actual straight flyer. Having just one person hyzer-flipping the discs isn’t great for players who throw flat or even with a touch of anny.

MVP modulates fission weight by changing the mass in the overmold, the flight plates are all the same for any run. This means that a max weight fission disc is going to be beefy because it has more angular momentum and a min weight will be flippy for the same reason

was that a max weight fission hex? max weight fission can be more OS.

When I first started playing, the Mako3 was dead straight. But, I couldn't throw over 300 feet. Now I borrow my buddy's Halo Mako3 from time to time and it is great for hyzerflips, but it is not "straight".

My md3 is my straightest flying mid next to my MVP Reactor. If you’re continuing the series, the glow reactor is pretty wildly straight with good arm speed

This is what I was coming here to say! I still havent thrown a Hex but I love my glow Reactor. Forehand or backhand, you can put alot of power on it and it laser beams straight with little fade, if any. If the Hex did so well they should try the Reactor
@YoSuhDude
@YoSuhDude 4 месяца назад
@@bsage5609 the hex is also awesome. The md1 is also a laser beam if you can take a little heat off of it and just let it flip up to flat, the fade is awesome it’s almost like a glitch, just floats to a straight stop. Been loving the discmania mids, but I still bag a hex for slight turnover shots and a reactor for windy days.

Yeah, Mako3 is probably straighter for lower arm speeds, myself included. I'd consider it a really straight mid for me

Agreed. I only throw my Mako 200 to 250 ft when I need it. At those distances it goes super straight. When I go full tilt on it, I get a fair amount of high speed turn. If I needed to go further, I'd go to a fairway driver and if I needed the understability, I'd go with the MVP Vertex.

2yr player near 60yrs old so my armspeed is not high. The Champion Mako3 flies dead straight but now that I've had it a while its starting to fade a little but its very predictable. 250 or so is my average with more under than over that.

@@entrepreneurlife649 Exactly the same as me. However I just lost my star mako into a lake today and wondering if I should get another Mako3 or try something different.

I also agree that Mako3 is one of the straighest discs on the market. Unfortunately I own like 6 of them and they're pretty all over the place. They're all "pretty straight" but as always with Innova there's a huge variation between runs and plastics. One of the three star Mako3s I have is super straight, so I got to that, but will switch to a flippier one in a tailwind or champion into a headwind to get super straight flights out to about 375ft with my armspeed.

You can definitely tell that the star mako was released earlier then the rest, hopefully you did multiple throws

Innova skeeter is the new innova Rollo maybe?.?.? The 20 year Buzzz, Truth & glow hex are my straightest mid I throw. I threw a Champ Mako for a while but it would turn easier then the newer straight mids.

sticking with my Z meteor. it's straight as an arrow, 200' or less. had a great straight Z Buzzz that a lake swallowed. replaced it with another Z Buzzz which has turned out to be incredibly OS. alas.

My straightest flyer so far is my streamline echo except thrown forehand it fades a lot.

If you do a most overstable mid vid you've got to try a Legacy Discs Badger. Specifically the Patrick Brown Aztec Serpent. It's what I imagine a Tilt would be as a mid-range 😂

If you throw the MD1 Mindbender on hyzer its going to go left. You have to throw it flatish

It was a shock to me when I realized how differently same mold with same plastic can fly. It's basically the same disc, how on earth can it fly so differently? Well, they are all unique snowflakes, you just have to try and see how each one behaves. And the straightest midrange in the world has been and always will be KC PRO ROC! (when worn just right)

Atlas XT is straigh in the beginning and chance understable. Atlas champion is stable that will get straight with time…. But it allways depends on your arm speed.
