Really good video. You made it easy to understand. Playing only forehand (putt is backhand). It's my 2nd year of playing & I finally managed to get my forehand to be always at the same position for stable & controlled throws. Now I'm learning hyzer/anhyzer/understable/stable/overstable to make even better throws. So many throws with bad form to get here.. I can apply your instructions to my forehand in a mirrored form.

@jeffprice9105

Great video - Thanks Brodie! - That really helps to confirm what I've learned as well and covers a ton of ground. Maybe one thing maybe not covered enough was the weight of the disc and how that affects the speed of the disc which then affects stability. So you throw a heavy disc and lighter disc with the same power the lighter disc is going to have more speed and will turn more but it will also be affected more by the wind. At your level I'm sure you are probably at max weight for everything but for those of us that don't have as much power as you its helpful to have some lighter discs in the bag that will allow us to throw the disc fast enough with less power and get a full flight out of the disc.
@stephenrosenthal5252
@stephenrosenthal5252 3 года назад
Honestly I'm not sure a lighter disc flies faster. Although you may be able to pull your arm around a touch faster. But then again we are talking a difference of 25 grams and that is if you are throwing a 150gm. Ideally a heavy disc has more inertia but is affected by gravity more. A lighter disc would be opposite. The lighter disc would certainly be affected by wind but also just air resistance. The discs being the same shape would have the same aerodynamics. But cutting through the air a lighter disc may have more trouble with and feel more resistance. I throw mix of Max and lighter weight discs. What I noticed and I don't exactly know why is that lighter weight discs allow you to get more of the full flight of the disc. But not always resulting in longer distances. Although sometimes LOL.

@boyfromoz7
@boyfromoz7 3 года назад
Nice video. Well explained. One other factor, though not as important is "the run" or what year the disk was release. This has to do with the mold but note that injecting plastic into molds isn't always perfect so a mold of a certain plastic one year maybe a little different the following year. Maybe they are a little flatter (more stable) or more have more of a dome or "domey" (less stable) generally. That's why players in the know will pay way more that retail for a certain run of the favorite disc. You'll hear terms like "first run" the first year the disk mold was released, "4-time" (relating to a pro player series disk world championship disk the year it was released) and "prototype" before a full release was made.

Just viewed this video and was greatly informed of how the terms and all of the other factors affect the disc. I'm 58 yrs old and love throwing the beast, but I wanted a faster disc to get more distance and the local disc golf store clerk gave me a Heat to throw, but I lost it on the first day as I threw it and it went way right and into the lake, but just before that hole when I threw it it went further than my best and tracked like it, so what did I do wrong?

The beaten in part is also about increased skin friction due to scratches and dents and due to the magnus affect tends to turn over more (go the way it is spinning) just like how a baseball with seams curves more than a lacrosse ball

What type of stability with differing types of wind and how to throw under stable with a heizer release to gain distance and still finish with a slight right turn.
@kimmomatikainen1843
@kimmomatikainen1843 3 года назад
It depends on who throws it. By the way, it is hyzer. Nothing wrong with spelling wrong, but wanted to correct that. This is a very different topic, because someone throwing 450 ft uses very different stability than someone throwing 300 ft or 250 ft. You just need to see what works for you. And like I have told to many. If you ask for good discs for you or what stability should you use, always mention e.g. how far you throw. That gives people an indication what might work for you. You can't e.g. get an advice what disc flies sort of straight, if you don't tell something about how far you throw, because it is all depends on your throw.
@benhowardDG
@benhowardDG 3 года назад
What you said about weight is true but not completely correct. Lighter disc can be thrown harder with the same amount of effort bc they are light. However, just bc they are light doesn’t mean they are going to be flippy. I’ve listened to people talk about the Japan open and how some of the most overstable discs they have ever thrown were in the 150’s. You also didn’t talk about how lighter discs will be effected by wind more then heavier discs. Great video other then that, keep up the great work

Curious what your arm speed is? Not your hardest rips but your standard throw. Is there a rating for arm speed required based on speed if the disc?
@kimmomatikainen1843
@kimmomatikainen1843 3 года назад
It depends a lot on spin as well. In metric system there is a very good "rating" that works quite well. Add 0 to the speed of the disc and you get an idea how far you should throw it in order to make the disc fly according to its flight numbers. Speed 4: Throw 40 meters and it flies like the flight numbers Speed 7: Throw 70 meters and it flies like the flight numbers Speed 12: Throw 120 meters and it flies like the flight numbers

I don't really understand. If i throw a disc, let's say a driver with a right hand backhand throw, won't that disc ALWAYS turn to the left eventually? Unless you throw some special shot, Hyzer/Anhyzer etc. But just a normal backhand throw, it should turn left with that throw, & to the right with right hand forearm throw. Right? I am throwing a Discmania Majesty, & that's exactly how it works. Right or left, unless a special throw is utilized. Am a beginner, & there's some confusing info about this stuff online.

I’m sure u know some of this already but each disc has numbers even tho some don’t print it on the disc you can find it online! Quick tip that I learned from throwing some of my friends discs! If you throw around 270-300 feet max try a “blizzard plastic” (makes the disc super light) disc by innova! I have a innova krait in that plastic and it’s 141g 11/ 5 / -1 / 2. The disc flies with such glide and power but it’s easy to get that speed because of the weight! For me I can throw it around 320-350ft. I suggest trying it out! They got some more as well in this plastic! Have fun out on the course bro

@@PoloZ34 Most bigger manufacturers make lightweight discs. Prodigy, Dynamic Disc, Latitude etc. Discraft doesn't have many of those. Discmania has those too. I ditched Innova many years ago, because you never know what you get when you buy Innova. Very inconsistent. You buy two from the same mold and they fly totally differently. With that arm speed, I recommend to try Latitude's Sapphire if you like lighter discs. For the woods, e.g. Dynamic Discs Breakout for hyzerflips and controlled drives.

As someone trying to get into disc golf brodie has been a huge help. Always easy to understand clear information. Dude thanks for the help and clarity to the terms we all hear in disc golf.

Awesome video. I’ve only been playing about two months now but it’s crazy how many different discs I have bought in different types of plastic to put a bag together that works for my throw. I’m constantly experimenting with the same disc but different plastic, and different discs all together to find what comes out best for me. At first I couldn’t believe how much more my Champion Roc 3 faded than my DX Roc 3 when I first got them. Just got myself a basket recently and I bought a bunch of new putters to test out and practice with. Each person has to find what works for them.
