Also, as someone nearing 40 it's great to hear young people having these thoughtful conversations. When I was in my early 20s, podcasts didn't exist and RU-vid was in its infancy. My college friends & I were just drinking it up, playing video games seven hours a day with zero sense of urgency or passion for success or becoming our best selves. Good on you for starting early! These excellent habits you're establishing will compound and lead to great results for all three of you.
@Nonyah123
@Nonyah123 Год назад
We don't really have that luxury in this day and age! Young people everywhere are having these conversations (my friends and I call them 'basement chats' because we won't be able to afford kids, houses, or any of our dreams otherwise. I also played video games 7 hours a day and binged youtube nonstop...but I had to give it up at 20!

Damn, I turned 25 in december and I really felt this episode. I though about these topics a lot lately and I can relate with 95% of what all of you said and I honestly wish the conversation was longer and more in depth. Since my early teens I thinks I celebrated my birthday twice in my life, so it always had a trivial importance to me but the aging factor was alway a big thing so I always take the chance to have a retrospective of what I have been through the year, what I've left behind and where I am going toward. I wish I had someone to have conversations like this in my life too... If only there was some kind of online community (idk, like a Discord server perhaps) where you could connect with random people around the globe that would enjoy this kind of conversations too ;)))

Love the "Peak in Life" discussion! I peaked *physically* in my early 20s competing in bodybuilding shows. *Professionally* I peaked at age 27 becoming a Personal Training Manager for a nation-wide health club in the U.S. In achieving my *personal goals* I peaked age 29-34 when I first moved abroad to teach English in South Korea. It was like hitting a "Reset" button and starting Life #2! In doing so I achieved all my travel dreams in Asia and even Europe! After that, I hit a bit of a lull with no more goals. Until I put myself out there and met my fiance 3 years ago at the age of 36. I can now say I've peaked in *Relationships* in my late 30s. Despite 8+ years away across the world, I'm closer to my mom than ever and am about to get married this year! Although it's impossible to look ahead and know, I believe there are even more "Peaks" to look forward to such as kids, and giving back to others in the community. Thanks for the thoughtful conversation and for evoking this in me ^^

as someone that's nearing 29 who also wants to move abroad and teach in Korea, hit reset, and travel a lot before meeting a partner in my mid 30s, this makes me happy

The older I become, I believe it's, like Izzy said, feeling valued, by people that I care about. A call, drop in, a message. This was an interesting topic, I am about 15-20 years older than "the trio" and I began to think on how different my thoughts, goals and beliefs were in my 20s Izzy, it does evolve, or should. I liked the idea of the snapshot each year to track. As most things in life, your beliefs osolate, but core values can be challenged and while most stay the same may be "reviewed". Have a goal and work towards it, be flexible, grateful, kind when you can, selfish when you need. Persevere. Just an ex Australian soldier throwing in my 2 cents Take care and thank you

I think when looking from the perspective of your 20s, 40-50 years old may seem distant and maybe not as productive, but in reality it's what you decide for this age to be😍 hopefully, we are healthy by that time🙏 but even if not, we can be super-experienced or will have tried different career paths and know something about life! I think it's a fruitful age too!✨ if you keep being interested in life, stay curious!🙌 Every age is beautiful and well, it's true, there is melancholy in getting older, but in my opinion it's important not to lose ourselves in it, in our thoughts of the past. There are still opportunities no matter of the age we are in! I hope we use our time wisely and love every minute of it! God bless🙏

19:10 is a great idea! tracking our favourites or writting a letter to ourselves about how we are at this moment of time, so that we can look back and actually see more concrete evidence of how we've changed over the years. Thankyou Matt for that! My perspective on birthdays during my school years. had been that there is no need to make a big deal about it But my friends have completely spoiled me over the years by making a bigger deal of it than i've ever expected , for which i'm very grateful and lucky. My resolution is to be better at spoiling them back on their days as well. I need to up my gift game. Audible credits are actually a great idea for that! And my mom definitely needs more appreciation from me on birthdays especially as well. Thankyou Matt, Izzy and Ruri for your very deep and introspective podcasts. I learn new perspectives in all of them from all of you every time!

Speaking as a "BOOM geriatric" of 43 heh heh I have to say my birthdays nowadays I make a point to step outside, inhaling the fresh air, then exhaling a loud "GET OFF MY LAWN" whilst shaking a cane overhead at the neighborhood kids that have lit paper bags full of dog excrement on fire. All jokes aside. As for my birthdays In the past, I have honestly forgotten some of them myself. These 3 things I know though. Matt, old man strength is a thing! haha so that is something to look forward to. Izzy, Your plateau cruising altitude will be sky high! And Badass-Auntie Ruri... You'll always be badass, because if You're asked "What are You rebelling against" Your reply is a simple... "whaddaya got"? :) Can't get more BADASS than that! You're all treasures!

I celebrate my birthday back in the day with a play all day party at our house where all my friends would come and we all like play video games all day order what we want or even until morning the next day.. like it was a tradition that lasted until I was 13 and I was always excited about it.. after that, my birthday became less and less of like a kid's party.. I was ok with a simple lunch then would hang out with friends at the mall or at the Karting track if we were lucky..I think the last birthday that I can call a blast was my 20th birthday.. cause that's when I got to buy a car with my own money.. my birthday is still meaningful to me but it's not a s meaningful that I get excited about it Everytime it comes.. now it's like just a normal day for me.. I mean I live alone and I'm used to celebrating it alone now. I don't need to ask my parents to get me this and that for my birthday cause if I want something I can get it anytime cause I'm earning my own money.. now in terms of peaking in life I don't think about it that much.. I just wanna go on a d on with what I do until the day that I die.. yeah I wanna evolve but I still want that evolution to happen in my field of work.. sure I would want to be a team principal for our team in the future.. I think that would be interesting to see if I could be like Toto Wolff and get our team to winning multiple championships yeah that's the dream I wanna achieve.. and in terms of marriage, I don't think marriage is necessary.. sure I wanna have kids and become a father (hoping that his son would continue and have the same dream as his or her father) but I'm the type that if it comes it comes if it's for me it's for me.. but right now I just wanna enjoy life.. mean I have a great job and everything about it is fun and there's never been a boring day in this field, I absolutely love everything about it and as long as I'm breathing the same air as sir Lewis Hamilton, and in the same country as Harry Potter then I'm good with that.. and I see myself doing this even if I get old ☺️

I don't really like birthday parties, I prefer to have a good time with my family, eat my favorite birthday cake and watch a good movie. I think I don't like gifts so much either, I would prefer something useful and cheap instead of something super expensive and pretty. I also have the idea of spending a birthday completely alone for the first time, to have a time of introspection, thinking about the past year or my goals for the future (I don't know if I will, but I would like to). I am not saying that human emotions and feelings are the worst thing as it distinguishes us from not only the techs but also the other forms of life.
