Not far off. Singer is a trained pianist. He studied piano and composition at the Royal Swedish Music Academy. The other two also went to the same place but they studied Jazz. You should take a look at their version of Thriller in a shuffle beat. You realize that Thriller should always have been in a shuffle beat!

This was one badass reaction to one of the greatest songs by this super band. Thanks a million 👍 With interesting comments and insights as well as a lot of heart, it made my day 🙏 And I feel that, after only listening to this song once, you’ve figured out most of it already. Yes, three guys from Sweden, longtime friends and having studied at the Swedish equivalent of Juilliard, in Stockholm. I hope that Lotta Wiklund sees this reaction and adds one of her always super informative comments! Suffice it to say that Dirty Loops are three of the best new musicians on the music scene today. They’ve jammed and recorded with some of the best, and I think you have THE BEST journey ahead of you, diving into their stuff. Jonah slays you with his insane vocals and crazy riffs. He’s also indeed a classically trained pianist, first and foremost. Having sung in his parents’ choirs (both are choir masters) from practically age one, all his life, he also started early with the piano, switching to jazz piano studies later on. From what I’ve heard, Pat Metheny Group (Lyle Mars), Oscar Peterson and above all classical music are his influences musically. Rachmaninov, other romantic composers, Bach…. Vocally he cites Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder as part of his big influences, as well as everything else he listened to, growing up. Interestingly, he sees himself not primarily as a singer, or pianist. Still, music is his big passion. I guess it would be the same for Henrik and Aron. Henrik’s funk technique is outta this world. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d been the one laying down that grunge thing at the beginning. He uses all sorts of pedals and effects, but hey, just guessing. Aron, besides being an insane drummer (Toto influence) co-writes a lot of their material (all three write together in various combinations). He’s also the one often writing Henrik’s bass lines. And to top it off, edits all of their visuals on their videos. Also by the way, Jonah has laid down ALL of the vocals in this one, despite appearances. Every time I listen to this track there are new vocal and choir insanities appearing. Even the credits soundtrack -I could listen to it for hours. They’ve got an amazing sound engineer on board, Simon Petrén. He’s often called the fourth member of Dirty Loops. Then there is Andreas Ekstedt, a Swedish percussionist specializing in Latin instruments and rhythms, often featuring on their recordings. Very interesting what you’ve said about Rush and their way of compensating for a lack of speakers on stage 😂 Yeah, the Loops often use amp setups visually in a funny way. They exploded onto the music scene with a cover of Lady Gaga’s Just Dance (completely mindboggling!), then more civers followed and eventually they went into writing their own originals. Where they are going from here, we’ll see. Currently they’re touring Canada and the US and are working on a new album, soon to be released. They’re dropping a new song today, and I can NOT WAIT to listen to it!!! Interesting how you’ve said that ‘your emotions have been completely played with’. I think it’s what happens to all of us, listen to their music, and it’s one of Jonah’s stated goals and passions, to express emotions in their music. Also through the way he plays with harmonic changes. “Next To You” takes you to another level, for real! 💥☄️⭐️⚡️💫✨🪐 You might want to check out their song “Work Shit Out”. More crazy classical/jazz/funk fusion, as well as an insane drum solo by Aron and keys solos by Jonah. Sooo much good stuff to explore ☺️ Thanks for taking us on that journey 👍🙏

Great reaction and welcome down the rabbit hole that is Dirty Loops! It's so much fun to see someone discovering Dirty Loops for the first time, and have their minds blown As someone already pointed out, the vocals in this one is just Jonah, but on the song "Rock You" you can see both Aron (drums) and Henrik (bass) on backup vocals. In their early days they sang some of the backing vocals when they were playing live as well. They always have an auxiliary keyboard player with them when playing live, and these days that guy does much of the backing vocals with a harmoniser, in addition to backing tracks vocals they also use for some of the more complex arrangements. Henrik said the following about writing and recording this song, in an interview in Bass Magazine: Q: “Next to You” has a cool, halftime-shuffle feel and a gospel choir component. A: "That song took forever to write. Aron and I wrote the chorus in 2016. We found it in a drawer and tried a bunch of new verses with it until we got the right one. Then at the last minute, Aron wrote the gospel choir parts. He sent a very funny demo in which he marked where all the different gospel parts come in and what kind of voice they had. When Jonah recorded them, he had a chalkboard with all the different characters in the choir, and he distorted his voice to match each character and so none of them would sound like him. The groove has our typical, swung-funk, triplet feel, but the key is the Bootsy funk formula of having a heavy one to make all the subdivisions after it work. Aron wrote the chorus bass line, which is keyboard bass-like, and it worked best with a combination of fingers and slapping." If you want to check out more by them, you can pick just about anything, and you'll more than likely won't be disappointed, as everything they've ever released is of this ridiculous quality. And believe it or not, they're just as maddeningly good live. I'd recommend having a look at my personal favourite "Work Shit Out" though. It's still one of my most listened to songs, several years after being released. So stupidly good! I think the only guitar in that song is the one in the intro, as they usually do not use guitars at all, and it was played by Henrik's younger brother Erik. :) They did a whole album ("Turbo") with guitarist Cory Wong and his horn section though, during the pandemic, so if you'd like to hear them with guitar go check out some of the track from that album. There are videos for two songs ("Follow th Light" and "Thriller") on Dirty Loops' channel, and two more ("Turbo" and "Ring of Saturn") on Cory Wong's channel.

Yes, they are three classically trained musicians. They met at the Stockholm Royal College of Music and formed a band. You are right, Jonah was trained as a pianist, so was Henrik although he switched to bass when he was fourteen because a girl he liked told him that bass was a sexier instrument. Well done sir and looking forward to more DL, who are managed by Quincy Jones nonetheless! Dirty Loops is a band from Stockholm, Sweden, made up of Jonah Nilsson (keyboards and lead vocals), Henrik Linder (bass and backing vocals) and Aron Mellergård (drums and backing vocals). Their arrangements borrow from jazz and jazz fusion, gospel, funk, electronica, pop, and disco. They are known for their jazz fusion reharmonized covers of pop songs like "Baby" by Justin Bieber, "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele, ''Just Dance'' by Lady Gaga, and "Wake Me Up" by Avicii. They also performed the 2016 rendition of the song "Over the Horizon" for the new Samsung Galaxy S7/S7Edge by Samsung Electronics. My favorite tracks are Follow The Light (collab with Cory Wong and also a fire bass solo), Work Shit Out (2+ min drum solo) and World On Fire (bass solo). They also did a cover of Thriller with Cory Wong which absolutely kills it! New sub for more DL!

They are all graduates of the Swedish Royal Academy of Music, where they all studied both classical and jazz styles. Aron drums Henrik bass and Jonas keyboards and lead vocals. They are from Sweden. At the end of the video isthe line -A Quincy Jones Production - there is your Michael Jackson influence to his singing that many hear & his range is incredible. They are my favorite band of the last 10 years. Go to their 5 song EP called Phoenix and do the five song playlist. Then play the album Loopified from 2014. They've done guitar songs with a guitarist Cody that I know about but haven't heard this configuration of the band yet. The new track Run Away is from now, they just played in myh home town yesterday ( Toronto, ON, Canada and are on a tour of North America at this moment. You should look to see when they come to your city-state in the USA

@@teckreactions Sounds like its time for a road trip to Dallas!!bring some friends who would enjoy this amazing jazz-funk pop-soul art-rock band. They played The Opera House here in Toronto, ON Canada, a great venue designed for sound, and the tickets started at $50 for General Admission -very good deal! The album called Turbo is with guitarist Cory Wong (not Cody, oops)plus other guest players is them with a fine guitarist. I love Ring Of Saturn , check out their new track Run Away - I've joined their youtube channel after hearing about them 10 years ago. I think they started in 2008 and their early songs are also funtastic works of music. Peace.

Welcome to our nirvana....the World of Dirty Loops! Since I've seen so many great comments with respect to their musicianship and background, I won't add on. It's complete. So for recommendation, I do agree the next one you should react to is "Work Sh*t Out", as you mentioned wanting to see more of Aron's expertise. Next, PLEASE do yourself a favor, as most have said and watch their version of "Thriller". It is NOT a cover, rather a stratospheric re-imagining, as some musicians call it a shuffle. It's a collaboration with Cory Wong and his horn section. Either way, hang on for the best MJ experience ever, "Loopified", and nobody can touch it. Really, after those two selections, anything else you watch from Dirty Loops will have you wondering why it's taken so long for the rest of the world to find them. Also, to get a good glimpse of how tight D.L.'s rhythm section is (Aron and Henrik - locked!), check out their side project: Songs For Lovers.....most specifically Bitten By the Kitten, then jump on to "Coffee Break is Over." Happy listening!

@@teckreactions It's always hard to define the genres of Dirty Loops. In the piano solo in Work shit out you can hear an obvious influence of Swedish folklore and the pianist Jan Johansson. I saw another reaction to Next to you by a black American woman who repeatedly said: "This takes me to the church!", "this is so CHURCH!". Boundaries is not the Dirty Loop's thing, to say the least... 😄

With Jonah's ability to pull off anything Michael Jackson and playing with cream of the crop musicians its no wonder Quincy Jones has taken this Swedish band under his wing and is exploting their incredible musicianship while sticking to pop based musical themes. Check out their fairly recent cover of MJ's "Thriller" with Cory Wong's band. Fortunately for all of us, these gifted Swedish music students gained a lot of traction arranging, recording and posting crazy good covers 11-12 years ago of big hit pop songs by Justin Bieber, Adele, Britney Spears, etc. on RU-vid so much so they recorded and released an album of their own pop oriented songs soon thereafter. Not sure why but they disbanded not too long after that and only realized it was a big mistake and reunited under Quincy's wing a few years ago releasing a great set of videos and an EP plus a collaboration with Cory. Their upcoming tour will be the 1st in almost 10 years in North America......

Sorry - reposting because I forgot an important point ... Just to be clear, Quincy Jones does *_NOT_* produce them, he manages them ①. In multiple interviews they explain they don't involve Quincy until they have the finished product. They work with an extremely talented 'engineer' who mixes, masters and also records the video. The drummer, Aron Mellergård, edits the videos. You absolutely should react to all of the Corey Wong collaborations. He brought his horn section. Some of them were Prince's studio and touring horn section, including arranger Michael B Nelson. *_However, I'd recommend doing some of their own songs first, like "Work Shit Out", or "Rock You"._* Best Wishes, All. ☮ ① Quincy Jones has announced July 2023 Quincy Jones management is closing. I assume he'll be involved with Dirty Loops and Jacob Collier in some capacity, but I haven't read anything.
