Nah, as someone who used to think DnD was cringe and also used to be super into black Butler and cosplayed it Lol It's kind of a canon event so to say for the main dnd lovers to go through a phase of ignoring it because society painted it as "cringe" but it's super fun and I'm glad I played it , super fun roleplaying even if I didn't ever 100% understand the numbers on my character sheet but I loved playing out the lore of my character and the world
@@ViktorErikFade Agreed. I've yet to play DnD, and sure, it sounds cringe due to social stigmas, but I used to play on a WoW RP server (It wasn't dedicated roleplaying, it was back when it was labeled as "RP / Normal", or something), and I did enjoy role-playing with my brother from time to time. Also, I was shocked that my older brother, who is the definition of "I don't take anyone's crap" from a quick glance (200 pounds of pure muscle, not like a body builder, but I've seen him carrying 300+ pounds at a time over moderate & long distances without hardly breaking a sweat. Just about the total opposite of me, lol), was into that kind of thing until I had tried it for myself. I'm not crazy about roleplaying, but it's definitely still got a bit of a negative stigma surrounding it, for sure. Hopefully, like anime has become, it will one day be either the norm or the 'cool thing' that people flex about for some odd reason sometimes, as the boys have discussed in the podcast dozens of times now probably. :P
Just saying, viet people LOVE Antony Bourdain. Vietnam was one of his favorite countries and he had a very deep love for the people and culture. So a lot of viet people love him cause he's a famous celebrity who really appreciates the country. So he's not just any white guy to us! Anthony Bourdain was probably one of the most genuine food "celebrities", even if he hated being called one. And he holds a really special place in a lot of viet people's hearts. Growing up, I didn't think Vietnamese food was that special or cool. But he made me fall in love with it.
He made pretty much everyone in the world fall in love with Vietnam... So happy to have had him as a guide in many ways. It's an amazing country I can't wait to visit.
Idk if any of the boys have read/watched much Anthony Bourdain, but he's about 1200x more respectful, appreciative, and knowledgeable about world food than Ramsey. While not as great a recommendation as a local's, the spots he praises are always good. And Vietnam was his favorite place in the world.
He was a real genuine person, love how he highlighted immigrants in his books and shows. Showed the world amazing hole in the wall eateries and even fancy places. Was truly a man of the people
I mean, giving them the benefit of the doubt they clearly haven't watched/read his works. Joey asking "has he ever been to Europe" about the guy who spent his childhood summers in France and was in France when he took his own life just shows just he didn't know. Unfortunately I feel like a lot of people only remember Anthony Bourdain if they're American because his shows we're largely only on American television.
Yeah they just liked latched onto him and shit on him from a very ignorant perspective. Or Joey did, mostly. Funny thing is he'd agree with them that why the fuck should a white man's opinion matter? But he damn well knew what a baguette was, he had been there countless times through his life.
@@iWeezildude also the Boys are some of the most bizarrely sheltered and clueless dudes on the entire planet, somehow. Every episode is another offhand comment where I do the face from the confused black dude meme
So a banh mi is traditionally made on a baguette. This came about from the french colonization of vietnam and a lot of vietnamese cuisine incorporates methods and facets of french culture. Another example is how vietnamese coffee is traditionally made using a french press, and also includes condensed milk, and dairy products are typically scarcely used in the east.
@@The_Brandoff I can't even blame them at this point as they've made so many bad food takes lol. It's apparent they don't really know about food, but that's okay.
To be fair you can't honestly blame them for the baguette take, if you're not Viet most people aren't even aware the Viet baguette is uniquely different from the French variety. Lighter and a bit more airy as the perfect vehicle for banh mi
As one of the VIPs there I can say it was truly one of the most fun experiences I’ve had. Getting to hang out with Connor, meet other creators, and feel the rush of a live auction was so exciting!! Connor did an amazing job and I felt how much thought and planning he put into the event. Always so proud to support him on his charity endeavors!!

Anthony Bourdain was a huge advocate of trying out restaurants popular with locals and he loved Vietnam. I think his recommendations would be fairly good.
I will not stand for the slander of the late great Anthony Bourdain in comparing him to Gordon or even disregarding his takes cause he’s white , that man is a legend who’s legacy is the reason Asian food has been exposed to westerners
@@IWantToStayAtYourHouseHe was the host of a show on CNN called Anthony Bourdain parts unknown if I remembered that correctly. He normally explored various countries cuisines and street food and gave his thoughts about it. He committed suicide while he was in France and will be missed.

1:37:00 the kids ended up that far because initially they just went to the cave to "explore" a bit (as kids do) as they were going home from practice. However soon after after they got in there was a sudden outbreak of rain, which started flooding the cave (there are signs about not entering the caves during moonsoon season but this was two weeks before, it was an unexpected early downpour). So they got pushed further into the cave, flushed out by the advance of water, and then when the rains stopped they were beyond the entrance which'd drain. So those were kids caught in an unfortunate situation which was hard for them to predict, likewise for trapped miners, these are folks trying to make a living and either through ill luck or (as commonly if not more) company mismanagement and cost cutting they get into a bad situation. OceanGate / Titan was a bloke deciding he had enough money to override physics, it was entirely ego driven, the company was known for unsafe practices, founder & CEO Stockton Rush for firing people who rung alarm bells and disparaging safety regs, and the trip was entirely exclusivity tourism in a flagrant death trap. So it's more like a dude putting a firework up his ass. When someone's suffering the obvious consequences of a deliberate action they were warned about, the empathy tap doesn't get much of a workout. It's like Britain and Brexit, or Russia and the invasion of Ukraine, or most of "america's funniest videos". This is not recent either, they're further on the scale but few people were mourning Adolf on May 1st. Ir Benito on April 29th. More recently Saddam Hussein being found in a cellar or Khaddafi being executed were subject of ridicules, and there were endless jokes about Bin Laden's extraction and burial at sea.
As an American, hearing Garnt start off with saying that Joey "just got back from Vietnam", my mind did not interpret that the way it was supposed to 😂
I wonder if Meilyne should feel flattered to be compared to Malenia from Elden Ring when that one "CEO of Marketing" saw her and was instantly like, "Bro, let me solo her!" 😂
tbf to Anthony Bourdain, he actually does have a long history with vietnam, and is definitely way more versed in vietnamese cuisine than anyother white guy chef out there like Gordan Ramsey and Jamie Oliver.
23:26 Not just you Joey. As a trail runner I love this brief discussion about hiking. And just going out to these places and climbing mountains. The beauty, the beauty during those struggles. And the mountains you have climbed. They are with you forever and you'll remember it. Perhaps during the tough times in my life as well. I can say that I literally climbed a Major Mountain. I know I can do this. And among all other things, the people, the environment and the experiences during that moments.
In Vietnamese, bánh mì does just mean bread/baguette as well as the sandwich, so yeah that is why the translation could say that lol. I'm half a Vietnamese American (in Wisconsin so not many of us here but a lot of Hmong) and haven't left the country yet, but I really want to go so hearing Joey talking about it makes me want to go more.
Genuinely thankful for all that Connor has done for the IDF, it’s amazing how he got the community together to raise money for a good cause, someone close to me suffers from an immune deficiency disorder and I’m glad the IDF will be able to help them
I hate to say it, but I caught Garnt and Connor outside the convention as they were heading into their vip car. I asked Connor to sign my muscle girl dollar. While Connor was signing my dollar, I totally disregarded Garnt. Garnt, if you see this, I'm sorry! I had a lot of adrenaline going through and I was hyperfocused on getting my Muscle girl dollar signed. I wanted to get to talk to you guys a bit more, but I already felt like an asshole keeping you guys from leaving. Connor, Kaho has a $2 US bill for you. I asked her to give it to you, but If she didn't give it to you yet, she most likely kept it or spent it. I gave her 2 $2 bills. 1 for her, 1 for you.
1:48:48 feels like it’s easy to forget that cruise ships docks in a port for a day or two before going to the next city and doing the same, you don’t just stay on the ocean. It’s about exploring places off the ship with relatively comfortable travel accommodations in-between. Like being on a slow plane, only the «plane» is a small city with dozens of free bars, free restaurants, pools and arcades.
The submarine thing was more because rich dudes go into it, knowing it wasn't safe and a dumb idea, and all media and rescure efforts were focus on them. While at the same time a boat with like 3 hundred people went missing in Greece and there were no efforts put into helping them, the speculation is that since they were Pakistanis immigrants they didn't care as much. Which all together is just the dilemma of which lives are more important, 300 or 5
This!! Exactly. Like the dudes on the submarine knew the risks and thought they were above physics. The CEO was firing people left and right whenever they brought up how unsafe the submarine is. But their arrogance didn't let them stop it. So (aside from the kid) they kind've deserved it. While the news didn't care about the immigrant ship that had 300 people dead because of the sea(?) police actions but their life just wasn't as worth it to the news. Also all the money that was wasted looking for the submarine.
Save the Pakistanis, those 5 are loss cause. Anyways, Titan imploded somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean while the immigrant ship is near Greece territory, how come there's no rescue effort for the one in Greece? Is nobody watching the local news? The world is not THAT small, no way there's no manpower for the immigrant ship.
Never gonna not mention this when anyone mentions the 5 rich people lost in a submarine, the literal DAY BEFORE, 500 people were lost at sea of the coast of Greece, not a single mention of it from the main stream news until days later.
Where do you live? In UK, there is a lot of coverage of the migrants in boats, including when boats sink and lives are lost. I would say both occurrences are tragic.
I was so proud of Connor and his auction. You did kill it, man! And you know, I watched it for your nervous energy as well, cause it's very real and very down to earth. So proud of you!
As someone who's Korean I can't say much on the quality of Korean food back in Korea but I know that western Korean food is WAY sweeter and sometimes saltier than in Korea. I remember my mom distinctly complaining that some dishes tasted like desserts to her when we used to go to Korean restaurants often. Ever since we stopped she started cooking more and her food was a little bit gentler. Now whenever I go to Korean restaurants in America it's a 25/25/25/25 gamble on if it's too sweet, too salty, absolutely perfect, or not enough of either.
About submarine thing: if some idiots make a submarine without help of real experts, and fire an employees that worked on Titan and reported concerns about this project, they deserved the outcome.
@@fishy14095 If they were stupid enough to trust those idiots and agree to sit in this tiny can controlled by Logitech gamepad and go almost 4km deep, then, well, natural selection comes to mind.

It's so weird to listen to the boys talk about Vietnam, I just feel like out of all the South East Asia countries, we're pretty boring and forgettable. So thanks guys for making me feel proud of being Vietnamese this one time Also, It's so satisfying to hear Joey had to endure the heat as well, everyone must know the suffering of Vietnamese summer
My part of the USA (Calfornia/West coast) has large Vietnamese communities. And of course, pho, bun bo hue, spring rolls, banh mi, and other vietnamese foods are very popular around here.
I'm a Vietnamese student studying abroad, hearing Joey talking about Viet Nam makes me feel kinda homesick but so proud. Fingers crossed that if they ever do boys trip there I'll be home too
I'm really happy Connor talked about his nerves when hosting the auction. I've never been able to present or do anything in front of spectators & when I watched the live stream I thought, "Damn. I'm surprised how well he is at this when I thought he'd be similar to me". Definitely projecting but I go through the same nerves he described & it makes me respect him.
Can attest that my friends and I lined up for Connor's panel at 530am and camped the other panels just for his. When we got there, there was already a line. Moral of the story: AX needs to do room clears....
Garnt once again based with the Southeast Asian perspectives. It makes me so happy when he specifically says “Southeast Asia” ‘cause he knows we all share similar if not the same experiences and can relate to him. 😂 He knows what a typical SEAN city looks like, the weather/climate, the culture.

1:45:00 it's fine garnt, just check that there's a decompression chamber in case of accident, that way if you need to surface at high speed you can spend a few hours doing your decompression in a steel coffin. 1:45:18 decompression sickness doesn't make you explode (that's explosive decompression, which I don't think you can achieve when diving, that's more a feature of diving bell accidents), the bends is damage from bubbles forming in your blood and organs as dissolved gases fizz out. 1:47:00 not only did he survive, dude became a professional diver (he was the cook). Can agree, I've been to Sapa and it is incredible. The tour guide for your group is someone from the indigenous town, they are very hardworking people. The view and experience is great, and the hiking isn't that hard, its cooling since its on the mountains among the clouds. If you do go there, buy the homegrown tea there! It is sooo good.
Disneyland in Japan is unique in that it's the only one that was purpose built as a clone of the first and original. The many other Disneyland locations are very much different to each other let alone the US parks. There's differences of course, but the core of Tokyo Disney is meant to be a mirror of the original Disneyland as unlike how they build international parks now; the Japanese side of development did not want an experience tailored to them - they wanted the American experience.
Boys, can we please not disrespect the late Anthony Bourdain. The man was authentic and honest about how he viewed food and culture. How he wanted the world (at the time) to also go out and appreciate different cuisines. Those signs you saw outside of those restaurants that basically memorialized him, he literally helped bring them into the world’s view. Think back at the years he visited all these countries…way before instagram and influencer culture. The man definitely had demons, but his appreciation and respect for culture, knowledge, and immigrants was BEYOND worldly. To say that “he’s just some white guy…”, nah man. Disrespectful.
No one's disrespecting Anthony. It is simply a fact that foreigners and tourists can't be trusted to give food advice in other countries because they have very limited exposure to the cuisine. Sure Anthony has more credibility than just any random foreigner, but there'll always be a better restaurant or even a stall around the corner of the street which will serve a more authentic representation of what the country's cuisine is.
I'm guessing the boys haven't seen a single episode with Anthony Bourdain, maybe not even knowing he's dead. To give them the benefit of the doubt, They sounded like they were speaking from ignorance rather than disrespect
Hello, I've been watching your podcast from day one and I've been a fan since then.Just wanted to say thank you for continuing making amazing content for over two years now.Keep it up
Good to finally hear them backtrack their statement. I went to Vietnam 4 years ago and I came back from Japan a month ago. So for 3 years I heard them say Japan has the worst summers and I was like it can’t be worse than Vietnam. And hummus yeah it didn’t de close.
Good content Boys! I'm off today and it's just one of those days i literally couldn't get out of bed. As soon as you guys said Dickey Mouse, i def came back to life! Lol
Anthony Bourdain ate Baan Mi at a place in Viet Nam and extolled the virtues of the dish. Of course, the owner of that food stand are going to use that as clout to get tourists. Anthony Bourdain didn't endorse the restaurant, he endorsed the food...
As a South East Asian, our seasonal summer weather alternates between summer-with-a-hint-of-breeze, summer-with-heavy-rains-but-still-hot, and summer-from-Hell. On rare occasions, we get the summer-with-rain-from-Noah's-flood too
I was at Anime Expo this year day 1 and i felt like a fish swimming with a thousand other fish in a tiny stream of water. The crowd was nearly suffocating with how crowded it was there
The submarine thing was deliberate oversight. Firing employees, deeming the vessel "too safe", and a bunch of other shenanigans. It's the best case of fucking around and finding out. They confidently took the risk and sunk with it. If safety isn't your first concern in any exploration ever, you're in deep trouble.
In regards to Anthony Bourdain - I’m quite sure it’s due to him having been a professional chef and food critic rather than his skin color? Why does his skin color have anything to do with it?
How many times in a white country have you seen restaurants advertised with recommendations from a chinese chef? Someone being an expert chef doesn't mean they're an expert in foreign cuisine.
In Korea you get Koreanized Japanese food and in Japan, you get Japanized Korean food. May not be good for Westerners, but optimized for the domestic market.
Something i don't think they understood was, since they were billionaires, they we're essentially criminals/murderers since you can ethically become that rich without stealing the value produced by the actual workers and forcing them to live in worse conditions then they should be. Only sad the kid died since he was just there because of his dad.
I gotta correct Joey here XD we in Germany eat exclusively in Italian, asian and Turkish or Indian restaurants. My friends and I love ordering Vietnamese or Japanese food and ofc good pasta and pizza can't be too far away. Good Indian food is expensive but damn yes plus Dürüm is my love language XD Ofc German food is in there but is like is more an exception or at home food.
Just got to Japan from Thailand, and I agree, it’s so much better. Most summers I go US-Japan-Thailand, in which case the Tokyo heat is horrid, but coming from Thailand is way better Edit: also, it’s El Niño. The heat is far worse this year than it usually is.
I concur, Garnt. Being on the beach is different than being out in the ocean. No matter how big the boat, the ocean is always bigger and deeper, and there is far more things in the ocean that can kill you.
Love the new drip! :D Also I 100% share Garnt's feelings towards the ocean. I grew up around plenty of ocean, I even went snorkeling a lot. Now thanks to the internet, I know in hindsight that I had already had Thalassophobia back then as a kid (I just didn't have a word for it) and it's only gotten worse in recent years. Still, I LOVE beaches and I find the ocean and bodies of water in general absolutely fascinating, especially aquatic wildlife and will read and watch just about anything I can about those topics. Personally tho, I am deathly afraid of going into the water if my feet can't reach the bottom or - worse - if I can't see the bottom.

I'm starting to get it now.

The bois can sometimes have really weird opinions on food. They get hyper focused on ethinicity sometimes. Just because your not from the culture doesnt mean you cant make the food well nor does it not mean you cant accurately judge its taste. Its just a matter of experience. I think this stems from the fact that theyre not american. At the very least where I grew up, we always invited others to try to cook our food and we welcomed learning theirs.
